  • I know for a fact Azure Horizons, rijonAdventures and Identity have good scripts and ASM hacking. In fact the scripts in Azure Horizons are completely new and the music is from Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald along with rijonAdventures. And Identity has a completely revamped game with something COMPLETELY different. I also know that GBC ROM Hacks like Prism and Brown have a better preformance than WAH's ROM Hacks.
WRONG. Most games with old tiles tend to have better performance as well because the hacker is more knowledgeable and less lazy. Look at Azure Horizons, rijonAdventures, Identity etc. All have very good scripts but also default unchanged tiles too.
Sorry, but in my opinion the new tiles don't make a ROM Hack better in fact if a ROM Hack uses new tiles it will most likely have crappy scripts and other things. Look at Pokemon rijonAdventures, it became Hack of the year 2008 and it uses Fire Red tiles. When I ROM Hack Fire Red I am keeping the tilesets and I don't know or want to know how to change tiles anyways.
Eh, sorry for the late replies, if you read my signature, you would have known that I left PC.

As for your question, I have no idea why your scripts aren't working, as my own hack is based off of an (unfinished) version of that patch.

However, you might just be encountering problems that everyone does even on Ruby and FireRed, are you putting in variables in the tab on the left corner on A-Map? That's probably the problem.
yeah...the graphical style it's important...but to do a good hack, all it's important. I belive that the best hack sould have good scripts, good colors and graphical style, and an exciting story. Those 3 thigs make the "perfect hack" for me.
However, thanks for your support my friend!
I've actually never released an Emerald Clean-Up patch- I think you may be confusing me with Chaos Rush ;) The only patch I've given out to people is one that replaces all OWs with FR OWs, and that's not even public yet :D
The "first frame" that I think you're talking about is only displayed for a split second and its image is taken directly from the Tileset image. So yeah, you can change that via AdvanceMap.

I think that wherever you read that about colored text, they were referring to the fact that NPCs don't automatically have colored text based on their gender. That feature is exclusive to FR/LG.

I'm sure the Wally idea is possible but I don't know to do it or even how to figure out how to do it.

I'm pretty sure that '[rival]' works in Emerald.
    1. Of course you can. Just check XSE's guide (Message Codes are under the Appendix section, if I recall correctly) for the codes.

    2. In Emerald, '0x15' through '0x18' are the running movements (at least, according to the script I decompiled in Petalburg Woods). When XSE decompiles them, though, they'll show up as "Slide Right", etc.

    3. Sure, it would actually be pretty easy. By hacking the routine which loads Wally's backsprite, we could put a check for the gender byte and then change the address that gets copied to the VRAM depending on whether the player is male or female. Pretty straightforward.

    4. I don't really know what NSE is or how it works but I do know that the flower animation images are located at '0x5105c4'.
But yet you have paths that are up to 8 tiles wide along with it?

I'm not trying to criticise your 'style' or anything, but maps which are restrictive in their construction can be seen as poorly made.
That depends on your definition of hacking. A lot of people believe that changing data in a ROM is not hacking. Hacking is, instead, the process of figuring out how the ROM works or locating data in the ROM. The actual process of changing that data is just game modification. Here, I used to have this document in my signature. You should read through it at least once.
But yet when you go from left to right you are. It doesn't matter if you're resticted one way and free to do whatever the other - The point is that you are being restrictive somewhere on the map.

    Thanks, btw :P
I want to hear your small ASM request. Not saying I have the ability to help you. I'm just going to see if I might be able to do it :)
