  • I'd say the same about Michael Cera, but I'm just not that easy. xD I enjoy his roles and he's funny in interviews, allz I'm sayin is that he's not a very flexible actor. Deschanel is a beaut, though.

I think that grows truer these days, but ubers like Depp and Day-Lewis and Blanchette, as prominent as they are, I easily forget that they're Hollywood icons and lose myself in their characters. You're right though, there are plenty of overlooked actors with a good deal of talent, and it seems that modern A-budget movie directors are lowering their standards.
Flying whales? How fantastic. Sounds like something I want to see happen in real life.

I agree, I'm sure we won't see him around for long. I have the same feelings about Zooey Deschanel, though she may be more versatile, I haven't really spotted much of a variation in her acting through the array of films she's starred in. I kind of think she should just stick to being an "indie-rock" darling, or whatever.
Because book publishers have cornered the market? Authors get things wrong a lot? Schools want to control what you read? The 1% or less of people who will go on to become physicists need more? I dunno. Take your pick.
At least you can find Sophie's World almost anywhere and relatively cheap if you don't mind used books. That one at least is popular.

But you're right. Even if all you read was that one book you'd have a good basis if you wanted to learn more and you'd still know more philosophy than 95+% of people.
That's the one. I know it gets a bit shallow on how deep it goes into philosophy, but for someone like me who doesn't read much on the subject it was great. There's also a book by him called 'The Solitaire Mystery' which I liked for all the same reasons I liked Moers.
This one delves into the world of literature (obviously) and has the same looks-like-it's-only-for-children-but-older-folks-will-enjoy-it-too style. It kind of reminded me of Jostein Gaarder at times.
That's what it says on the cover. I'm planning on reading that as soon as I can find a copy. Heck, I'm planning on getting all of his books if I can.
This one has illustrations, too, by the author no less.
I haven't seen it since I was young, I do have Fantasia 2000 which...I don't know if it's a revamped version of Fantasia or if it's completely different, I haven't watched it.

A lot of my friends are real sensitive to excessive carnal comedy, too...my mind knows no boundaries, I eat obscenity in movies like cupcakes. I say benefiting, just if you ever end up watching it, try not to pay too close attention to Michael Cera's meager acting range.
If I remember right, I think all of Fantasia creeped me out. There have been quite a few seemingly innocent Disney moments that for some reason scared me.

You didnt' miss much, unless you're into amusing one-liners and sex shtick. This describes me, so I got a kick out of it. Hahaha, it's crazy, you never would have guessed that they were imposter hands.

Oh, definitely, you never want to find out the ~secrets~ of a film before you actually watch it. I especially love to watch the commentaries of Judd Apatow films because his "team" is made completely of improv pros, so you know the commentaries are going to be entertaining and they never fail to deliver.
Yeah, that Ghost of Xmas Future always gave me the creeps, too. Psh, how rude grim-reaper lookalike. >:/ Everyone has different teaching methods, I guess.
Oh, me too. I'm surprised at both what can be gotten away with and what can't be gotten away with. A lot of film-makers have to go through these elaborate schemes to bypass certain laws; Superbad immediately comes to mind-- you know the part where the little girl picks up the drawing of the penis? The hands shown holding the picture were actually the hands of a small woman. I suppose the rule preventing children from seeing obscene pictures is reasonable, but that's just an example, there are plenty of silly ones beyond that...so I heard from the Superbad commentary. (Yes, I watch commentaries, and yes, Superbad was the movie I watched most recently. >_>)
Yeah, totally didn't try to watch again, I better watch now before it slips my mind once more. x3

Aw, did that one involve Huey Dewey and Louie? I watched that when I was younger, too, can't remember anything about it.
I accidentally x'd out of it when I was waiting for it to load :c and since then I haven't had the patience to try it again. I'll try it again, though.

When I was younger I hated that the Jim Carrey Grinch wasn't cute. x3 Haven't watched it in awhile, though. All I really remember is Faith Hill's music video for Where Are You Christmas, and a radio station where I used to live ALWAYS played that song in December. I'm surprised you haven't seen Scrooged, it's one of the ten thousand film adaptations of Dickens' "A Christmas Carol," as you may have guessed, and it's the one starring Bill Murray which makes it extra special. ;3
Oh I looove the little claymations; and oh dear god the Star Wars Holiday Special xD. I have got to watch that sometime this month. looky looky: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=323909610753051544# Takes forever to load.
I can't wait for someone to play Scrooged and the cartoon version of The Grinch.

That sounds nice, not too many people but enough for a substantial meal. It's just me and my mom, but she tends to keep a boyfriend around long enough for Christmas, so we might spend Christmas evening with her current boyfriend and his family. If he has one. I really don't know a whole lot about him. x3 But we'll see~
I hate to think of Christmas as a capitalist's holiday, so I try to ignore that. But I love the feel, it always manages to keep this different sort of nostalgic sensation with me. I feel you about the Christmas songs/specials never getting old, I can watch Elf 25 times in a row just for the spirit and not get sick of it. I love the commercials, the music is always so cheerful -- omg, smoke alarms are the worst. D: But yeah, Christmas is just a lovely come-together type of holiday. Do you have a big family to celebrate it with?
Oh, my bad for misinterpreting. I haven't heard Hendrix's version of Little Drummer Boy, but good lord is he versatile. I imagine he turned that song into some sort of enchanting, innovative euphoria. I'll have to listen to it sometime.

If only my having accustomed to always being busy or entertained didn't impose on my sleeping schedule :c
He did a Jimi Hendrix cover? I did not know of this, if it's on a Peanuts album or something obvious I just might kick myself in the face for being unaware.

xD Sorry, pal. I can't remember specifically, but I'm sure I've had that feeling before. I feel like it happens when I've conquered everything on my art/film/music lists.
Never ever too early, I listen to it all year round. That jazz piano is a nice accompaniment for any task or season.

Yeah, I'd like to have been one of his models...apparently he brought Suzy Parker to fame. Very powerful photographs, he took.
It's very lovely, very desolate and minimal to the point of elegance. And it fits your user title thing, "Mr. Nobody." May or may not be on purpose, but I kind of picture your avatar's character kicking a can and calling himself "Mr. Nobody" under his breath while Vince Guaraldi (composer for Peanuts) plays in the background.

Oh Richard Avedon! He did the portrait of the guy with the bees. This one:
Oh thank you. I've been curious about where yours is from, and your profile picture o_o (I feel like I should know the latter)
    I just hate to see arguments involving racism stem from the making of a children's film. People are always looking for some kind of controversy. 9_9 I'm just happy to see animation on the silver screen again ;3;

What a very simple ending! One you'd least expect. I doubt we'll see frog guts firin' around in Disney's version, I wonder how they'll change it up, if they do.
