  • I like all the generations of Pokemon and here is what they are from my favorite to least favorite: Gen. 3, Gen. 4, Gen. 5, Gen. 1, and Gen. 2. I like the newer Pokemon games more as they seem to be more fun to me.
    Thanks!
Btw, do you have a link to that post in the video too? I think I might make my hack Crystal instead.
Hey, do you know of any way to edit Pokémon stats/evolutions/movesets etc in Pokémon Gold? It's just for a hard mode sort of hack I'm making, but I'm making changes to some Pokémon.
    K
First of all, thanks for the help, you've been great with answering my questions and all.

I think it will help sometime later. What you put there, I didn't understand too much of it. I forgot everything from when I used to hack (little stuff), the only thing I remember now is how to use GoldMap to map and GoldFinger to look at hex values.

I hope your hack is going well. It's gone through so much dev, I think the final product will be great.

Edit: I could probably get to the pointer part, but I don't think I'll be able to get to the ASM part. All I need to know now is how to delete previous records (I no longer need to edit).. Hm.
And that's the most surprising thing in Dark Future :D
Now I know why I didn't knew - cause I waited for Eevee to evolve without stones ;)
Sounds like an accomplishment. I wanted to try doing some graphical ASM hacking, as far as I was thinking there wasn't going to be any features that require ASM in bonds. I may add something in the midst of the whole thing. I don't know maybe.

At any rate I'll see ya later, I'm going to log off and get some hacking work done. I'm aiming for an update every 2 days :)
Yeah I got the sign backwards, I thought I typed gen <III :P

Sure I'll see what I can muster up and hopefully by the end of the weekend you can bug test the hell outta Bonds ;)
As for ASM, I'm pretty sure the syntax/logic is all the same, considering that ASM is a programming language. The only thing that should change is the locations of the data and possibly what you have to do to manipulate it?

I'm not sure about Gen II, but in III, I'm sure that the locations for the data are always moving, I forget the term for it. So we have to work with pointers and stuff (as far as I can remember from the top of my head) ;)
Yeah, I thought about it and I decided that I'd like to continue anyways.
Sure, I think I'll take you up on that offer. I thought you were only hacking gen >III. Well at any rate tell me what you're good at/want to do and we'll work on finding out something for ya ;)
I want to edit Larvitar to evolve at an earlier level. From the information I've gathered, it appears that I can't use a program to do it for me. So do I have to edit the hex? I really don't know where to begin with that.
Hey I have a question about hacking evolutions on Pokemon Gold. If you can answer it for me, that'd be great! Thanks
Someone bumped your Pokemon Dark Future thread.
Why did you stop? Not a lot of interest, I saw, but maybe you could've promoted it more...

Anyway, I'd love to help make a Gold hack with you, if you would be interested. GBC hacks are cool.
When I make my ROM Hacks, I don't think I'll use new tilesets since they're not necessary. People just use new tilesets mainly for fame, which isn't important in ROM Hacking. ROM Hacking is something for fun that you get to learn from, and some effort should be put into a ROM Hack. If someone didn't like something about my ROM Hack I'd just ignore them, when you make a ROM Hack you put what you made in the ROM Hack not what somewhat else wants, because then you aren't having any fun or freedom.
Actually Gary is from the anime, his real name is Blue who actually came first, since the anime came first in America and Red and Blue's names weren't really revealed until GSC that's why people make that mistake. Also Hiro's real name is Ethan, but you can call him the fan nickname Gold if you wanted too.
I know all about how bits, bytes, flag true/falses and RAM work :P

So I was right, in a way: Using a flag in unspecified space could cause corruption, but using a flag in pre-allotted space is fine since the game is programmed around that space already, I figured this.

Using that logic, though, shouldn't one be able to set any flag as long as they then delete the old, non-edited data later? It would make sense, I think.
Oh wow that explanation for connections is a lot like mine, except better. That's cool to know I was close though.
    Thanks I'll look at that.

Also, I saw YOUR conversation with Spiky-Eared Pikachu, and while I know unused flags can be unstable, why is that exactly? Would it be because they could overwrite other parts of the ROM, or is it more like common programming where the flags won't work without defining them first? I'm curious. (I used "unstable" flags in my first FR hack and nothing went wrong, now I realize it was risky >_>)
A guy I now by the name of Fireworks says that graphics are important in a ROM Hack. I'm confused on this, are graphics important in a ROM Hack or not? I don't think they are, stuff like ASM and new events, etc. are way more important. I don't know too many GBC ROM Hacks that use new tiles other than Prism or ArticZapMolten.
