They don't necessarily represent the whole community, though. A lot of the community I know finds those anime to either be guilty pleasures (see Monster Musume) or so ridiculous in concept that they're clearly the greatest thing ever (also see Monster Musume). Unless the writing outright sucks so bad they can't overlook it.
Idol anime have been getting lampshaded a fair bit in recent seasons. I mean, Miss Monochrome is a short adapted from a comedy manga that lampshades the whole idol series concept by rarely taking itself seriously, and Sekko Boys from Winter 2016 did the exact same thing. There's no shortage of series that poke fun at the popularity of the two ideas by either being self aware or otherwise parodying the ideas.
I first heard of the one "discussed" in the video you linked through one of my offline friends last week, and she was extremely hyped for it because it looked adorable while I was like "JFC M8 WHY" when she described the concept to me and showed me the PV.
... not that I'm one to talk with Bakuon!! basically being either an anime/manga Top Gear with a female cast, or K-On! with motorcycles, and it's already one of my favorites of the season after just one epsiode. Though, like I said in the A&M DCC earlier this week, I've also been slowly turning into a sport bike nerd these last 6 months and Bakuon!! features several sport bikes and gets kinda nerdy about them in spots, so I would already have been in the target demographic if the anime featured a male or mixed gender cast anyway.
