Project: Pokémon Golden Oak​

Introduction​

Hey guys! I am looking for some hackers to assist in a project I am really interested in.

The premise is that you play as a young Samuel Oak as he works his way from being a Pokémon trainer, to being a good trainer, to his eventual quitting and moving to Pokémon research.

As some of you may know I am currently also running a lone hack, which is why I would really appreciate some people to help design, make and drive this hack - Rather than letting the idea go to waste.


Further Details:​

Characters include:

Samuel/Sammy Oak
-Starting out as a young trainer.

Agatha
-The 'rival' of Oak. She develops a vendetta against Oak (such as that seen in the Pokémon Adventures manga)

Bertha
-Sister of Agatha, she remains a neutral party - more of an aid than a hinderence.

Kurt
-Him and his father produce Pokéballs from apricorns collected by the player (similar to GSC) however this is the only means of obtaining Pokéballs, other than as gifts from others.

Baoba
-A child who roams the Safari Park of Old-Fuschia City, and eventually grows up to be it's warden.


Additional characters which could be used for single events:
-Pryce - Could have event where you help his Piloswine find the right herbs?
-Giovanni's Mother - ran a similar organisation to Team Rocket apparently so that could be used.
-Prof.Elm as a child?

Things I am unsure about:

Region - Kanto? Johto? Both? Whichever is chosen will have to represent a time where the technology is not nearly as advanced as in Red/Blue as it is 35-40 years previous. Original Region, with ending explaining why many residents move to other regions.

Flashforwards - Would it be interesting to view AND interact with things Oak does in the future? For instance in special locations,like Pallet, you get a flash forward to events like him giving Ash a Pikachu. Events can show the knock on effects on the future, will be accessible later in the game through Celebi. The flashforwards may reveal secret items, or things people in the future are looking for.

What Pokémon should be available? Prof.Oak, unless he was playing dumb, doesn't know of Johto type Pokémon until the time of Fr/Lg - Should this idea be stuck with or could we pretend he lied to the player?... Hm. A variety of 1st-4th Gen Pokémon, making up a unique dex.

Which ROM should this be a hack of? GSC 'retro' graphics could benefit the story plot, whereas the advantages to Ruby/FR gives a good starting basis in terms of game mechanics. I think this decision will be decided on by the scripters, ASM makers and the spriters as those are the jobs which differ the most between ROMs. This will be a hack of Fire Red.

Also I've been formulating ideas about story, tiles and general technicalities so I shall message those through to you once... well once they make sense.

Hi there Fanp :3 Since Chrunch is currently the key mapper, and there I think it's best to keep one mapping style as much as possible I'll have to say no to mapping.

Would you like to be a scripter? I had a look on your thread and it shows that you can do quite a bit :) could you just PM me a full script or two if you're interested.

Sorry but you've missed out the proof section, which is really important - especially with scripting since anyone who can edit a message thinks they can script.

Could you PM me examples of some complex scripts? (With an explanation if needed).

Undecided on it's palette, but the tree tile generally I like :) Kind of similar to FireRed style tree but larger and fuller.

Thanks for the application, however, I think between myself and some input from .Mini we won't need another dedicated story developer.

Despite that, I will be posting some ideas in the thread so please feel free to comment on them as a member of the forum rather than as a proper member. :)

Hi atif :) I'd love to take you on as a spriter - can you sprite Trainer battle sprites as well as Pokémon? Or any other types of sprites you can show me as well ^-^.

What Pokémon would you like next to your name? :) Any from Gen1-4, take your pick.

Thanks for applying Punnagg, we don't really have the need for splice sprites though - unless you can sprite trainers I'm afraid I'll have to say no.
