Yes. I copied the file-name of the patch and put it into the name of the gba-file, so that the gba-file has the name ShinyGold_X_byZel_v3_5.gba and the name of the ips-file is ShinyGold_X_byZel_v3_5.ips. They're both in the same directory and I tried this with two different firered-roms. One of them makes a blue screen after the copyright/credits and the other one makes a white screen.

Maybe you should try this:
Get VisualBoyAdvance.
Get a clean FireRed ROM.
Get LIPS (Lunar IPS, Google it.)
Get the ShinyGold IPS patch on the front page.
Now use LIPS and choose Apply IPS Patch, select the ShinyGold IPS file.
Now select your clean FireRed ROM.
Now use VisualBoyAdvance to open the patched FireRed ROM, and it should work.
It worked fine for me.
I have never tried to patch a FireRed ROM by renaming it, so I don't know if what you're doing actually works.
Is it against the rules to post a link to the site where I downloaded Lunar IPS from?

is there a .sav file in the same folder? cuz if it is there and it has a different name, it could screw things up.

you can catch most of the starters in the wild.

You can get Charmander at the Game Corner as well

Don't forget we'll have the events with Amelia and Ashlee at those Routes so you have two extra battles, and you'll have a third battle (this one optional, be careful with this one), so I think that's enough.

Well, not stronger, but more varied, so you can train different pokemon easily. You have different pokes showing up in the different floors at Victory Road.

Do you mean a 2vs2 battle (that's not possible with FR, they just made that in Emerald). Or do you mean a 1vs2 battle (that's possible but usually rivals don't get along well, so it's hard to imagine them tagging for battling, they have their personalities, after all)

I didn't put a Shiny Gyarados code, he said he just kept reloading till the Shiny Gyarados appeared (lucky he got it, anyway)
And, about the OW, I put the S.Gyarados and Ampharos sprite (you didn't played B3.5 so you didn't noticed it, didn't you wonder why I erased the line in my Glicthes List that used to say "There are some OWs that don't correspond what they should be")

Go to the options in your emulator: Options -> Emulator -> Save Type -> Flash 128k
If that doesn't work get another FR rom (the best place: GOOGLE!)

It might be not quite on topic, but I've got Pokemon Diamond Japanese on my flashcard and am playing it. The thing is, I keep getting the similar feeling when playing it as I have with ShinyGold/Crystal (original):)

Hey Zel, I just wanna say very well done, this is a fantastic game, and very well put together, even though I've only reached Violet City (technically Azela town but I'll get to that in a sec) so far the game is looking second to none, however so far I've found one major problem, when you have to face Team Rocket in slowpoke well, neither of the first 2 rockets challenged me, and when I went to talk to either of them the first Rocket (the one who Kurt scares) talked jargon, and when I spoke to the Second Rocket(the female on the hill top) the game crashed, I hadn't saved in a while so took me straight back to the gym in Violet (that almost made me cry T_T) just thought I'd mention it so you can rectify the problem, other than that so far no problems, and one hell of a game, CONGRATULATIONS.

I believe it is a known bug in ShinyGold V3.5. It was fine in V3 and I think a couple of posts back (or maybe pages) Zel had sorted this.

if what Zel already mentioned doesn't work try finding a newer version of VBA.
I had the same problem when i played with VBA v. 1.1, then i tried it with VBA 1.72 and halleluja. iIt worked.

Zel, is it right that the girl should look like this?
I'm not sure but I haven't read the whole thread yet.

Dont try to use the female trainer. Right now her sprites are messy because of the palette change. (Still haven't changed her, by the way...)
