  • Charizard is better because of its better move pool in comparison to Pyroar, who has terrible abilities (Moxie is wasted on a special attacker)

I kinda figured, Is there a Solid mix sweeper set for Charizard-X? I know Its not Physically strong, but I think I have enough Specials with 2 at least right now.

Charizard X is better off utilizing all physical moves to take advantage of Tough Claws:
    -Dragon Dance
    -Flare Blitz
    -Outrage/Dragon Claw
    -Earthquake/Dragon Claw/Roost
    Nature: Adamant/Jolly
    EVs: 252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spe
    Item: Charizardite X

  • (This is mainly for the Battle Institute/Maison, though I'll probably use it online every now and then.)

Would replacing Baton Pass with Dazzling Gleam be all right on a Dual-Screen Espeon? Or is it not worth it?

Also, I've been wanting to play with an Umbreon for some time now. Would Wish + Protect + Toxic + Confuse Ray work? Or should I give it an attacking move?

Baton Pass' slot can be changed up depending on your needs. Espeon being walled by Dark Pokemon isn't good, so Dazzling Gleam is an acceptable option.

Also your Umbreon is current Taunt bait:
    -Wish
    -Protect
    -Payback (pre-Poke Bank)/Foul Play (post-Poke Bank)
-Toxic/Yawn/Heal Bell (latter post-Poke Bank only)
    Nature: Careful
    EVs: 252 HP/4 Def/252 SDef
    Item: Leftovers
    Ability: Synchronize

And if I do change it, there's no way that I'll get BP back if ever I change my mind again, is there?

Ah, that looks much better; however, I have another concern: Does not having B/W or B2/W2 make it impossible for me to get those post-PB moves?

    1. Teach Espeon something else, replacing Baton Pass, then bring it to the Move Relearner to find out for yourself.

    2. Yes. You need B2/W2 for Umbreon to have Foul Play.

If you really want one, here ya go :3

    Charizard@Charizardite X
    Naive/Naughty Nature
    252 Attack/4 Sp. Attack/252 Speed
    Dragon Dance
    Flare Blitz
    Dragon Pulse/Fire Blast
    Outrage/Dragon Claw

That said Mega Charizard Y does a much better job at mixed attacking. Gets the sun boosted Flare Blitz alongside Solarbeam/Fire Blast.

  • How do you reduce EV's (Gen IV)?

This is my first time intensively EV training, and a messed up a few times and gave my Pokemon a few EV's in places where it shouldn't have. Is there any way to reduce them?

well erm depends, if its an in-game run anything goes but chansey isnt built for speed, its more of a special tank, so yea, go ahead and breed if you want to :p

I got a female Larvitar via Wonder Trade a little bit ago. It has an Adamant nature, perfect Attack, Defense, and Speed IVs. And it knows Pursuit (which iirc, is an egg move).

How should I EV train it? What moves should I teach it? And should I breed more Larvitars from it?

  • I just got a Timid Chansey from the GTS with perfect HP, SpD, Spe and Seismic Toss. Should I keep it or breed for a Calm nature?

Yea, you definitely want Calm over Timid. As someone said, Chansey aren't really made for speed. For a Chansey or Blissey, you want it to be able to take as many hits as possible. So your best bet is to put your eggs into defensive stats (pun intended).

Because of the perfect Attack IV and the Adamant nature, imo you should make attack EV's one of your main focuses, and teach her moves that do physical damage. Most of the moves Larvitar learns by leveling up are physical anywys. Beyond that there isn't anything essentially important, but personally I do high EV's in Special Defense. As a rock type it's already pretty defensive physically. Are you trying to make your Larvitar a sweeper (i.e. a Pokemon that specializes in taking out enemies in one hit)? If not, I wouldn't worry about speed at all. If so, then max out speed EV's.

Just wondering, which one of these templates has the best chance of winning a competitive battle (PokeBank included)?

Please note that the natures probably aren't the best.

    Option A:

Physical Sweeper (Adamant Blaziken/Adamant Megazard X)
Special Sweeper (Rash Delphox/Modest Megazard Y/Mild Samurott)
Type Sweeper (Modest Mewtwo/Mild Mega Absol)
    Physical Tank (Bold Meganium)
    Special Tank (Calm Gogoat/Sassy Blastoise)
    Type Tank (Sassy Druddigon/Bold Manectric)

    Option B:

    Hazard Setter (Ferrothorn/Forretress)
    Special Tank (Calm Gogoat)
    Bulky Sweeper (Quiet Druddigon)
Speical Sweeper (Modest Megazard Y/Mild Samurott)
    Support Pokemon (Male Meowstic)
    Annoying Tank (Quirky Skarmory)

Which, in your opinion, is a better team template (so the given Pokemon are just examples from my teams)

  • In conjunction with a boosting Gliscor Defense wall (Baton Pass, Swords Dance, Earthquake and Protect w/ Poison Heal and Toxic Orb), Speed Boost Scolipede (with Life Orb) can sweep pretty well if pulled off. It's fast enough to outspeed most of OU, and Speed Boost will ensure it does after 1 turn. A 100 Base Attack boosted by Swords Dance can't be easily shrugged off, either. Thoughts on this set up?

    Just for reference...

Gliscor, Impish, 252 EVs in Defense and Speed, Poison Heal w/ Toxic Orb

    Baton Pass
    Swords Dance
    Protect/Substitute/Roost
    Earthquake

Scolipede, Adamant, 252 EVs in Speed and Attack, Speed Boost w/ Life Orb

    Earthquake
    Poison Jab
    X-Scissor
    Double Edge

Scolipede, Adamant, 252 EVs in Speed and Attack, Speed Boost w/ Life Orb

    Earthquake
    Poison Jab
    X-Scissor
    Double Edge

I don't agree with Gliscor's current spread. It's very inefficient, since maxing out HP takes priority over defenses:
    -Substitute
    -Baton Pass
    -Earthquake
    -Taunt/Swords Dance/Agility/Rock Polish
    Nature: Impish
    EVs: 244 HP/48 Def/216 Spe
    Item: Toxic Orb
    Ability: Poison Heal

I also don't agree with that Scolipede set at all. Double-Edge doesn't provide noteworthy coverage. Megahorn is the superior option over X-Scissor. Scolipede also uses Baton Pass to give its Speed (and Attack) Boosts to someone else on the team and continue the sweep from there:
    -Spikes
    -Swords Dance/Toxic Spikes
    -Megahorn
    -Baton Pass
    Nature: Adamant
    EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spe
    Item: Focus Sash
    Ability: Speed Boost

    or
    -Swords Dance
    -Megahorn
    -Earthquake
    -Rock Slide/Baton Pass
    Nature: Adamant/Jolly
    EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spe
    Item: Life Orb
    Ability: Speed Boost

Physical Sweeper (Adamant Blaziken/Adamant Megazard X)
Special Sweeper (Rash Delphox/Modest Megazard Y/Mild Samurott)
Type Sweeper (Modest Mewtwo/Mild Mega Absol)
    Physical Tank (Bold Meganium)
    Special Tank (Calm Gogoat/Sassy Blastoise)
    Type Tank (Sassy Druddigon/Bold Manectric)

    Option B:

    Hazard Setter (Ferrothorn/Forretress)
    Special Tank (Calm Gogoat)
    Bulky Sweeper (Quiet Druddigon)
Speical Sweeper (Modest Megazard Y/Mild Samurott)
    Support Pokemon (Male Meowstic)
    Annoying Tank (Quirky Skarmory)

Which, in your opinion, is a better team template (so the given Pokemon are just examples from my teams)
I'll give feedback for both teams.

    A:
Blaziken is an Uber now, so you'll have to make do with Charizard X:
    -Dragon Dance
    -Flare Blitz
    -Dragon Claw/Outrage
    -Earthquake/Dragon Claw/Roost
    Nature: Adamant/Jolly
    EVs: 252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spe
    Item: Charizardite X

Greninja is the best option for a special sweeper because it's faster than Samurott and can change its type with Protean:
    -Hydro Pump/Surf
    -Dark Pulse
    -Ice Beam
    -U-turn/Hidden Power (Fire)
    Nature: Hasty/Timid
    EVs: 4 Atk/252 SAtk/252 Spe
    Item: Life Orb
    Ability: Protean

    or
    -Spikes
    -Hydro Pump/Surf
    -Dark Pulse/Ice Beam
    -Hidden Power (Fire)
    Nature: Timid
    EVs: 4 Def/252 SAtk/252 Spe
    Item: Life Orb/Focus Sash

Remember that you can only Mega Evolve once per battle. Absol depends on its Mega form to be effective, so you must choose between that or Charizard X to fill your Mega slot. Otherwise, find another coverage attacker.

Skarmory is a better physical tank than Meganium. Heck, even Avalugg does it better, despite its bad typing:

    Skarmory:
    -Spikes
    -Whirlwind
    -Roost
    -Brave Bird/Taunt
    Nature: Impish/Careful
    EVs: 224 HP/252 Def/32 SDef or 224 HP/32 Def/252 SDef
    Item: Leftovers
    Ability: Sturdy

    Avalugg:
    -Avalanche
    -Rapid Spin
    -Earthquake/Stone Edge/Roar
    -Recover
    Nature: Impish
    EVs: 252 HP/4 Atk/252 Def
    Item: Leftovers
    Ability: Sturdy/Ice Body

Gogoat suffers horribly from 4-moveslot syndrome. It's seen as a physical attacker, even though its offenses are almost equal. Like Absol, Blastoise relies on its Mega form to be effective. There are better special tanks out there, but Bulk Up is Gogoat's best bet for now.:
    -Bulk Up
    -Horn Leech
    -Earthquake/Rock Slide
    -Milk Drink/Substitute
    Nature: Careful
    EVs: 252 HP/4 Def/252 SDef
    Item: Leftovers
    Ability: Sap Sipper

Otherwise, you're better off using Goodra, whose Special Defense is massive and can tank Fire hits (which this team is vulnerable to) very well:
    -Draco Meteor
    -Fire Blast/Flamethrower
    -Thunderbolt/Sludge Bomb
    -Focus Blast/Dragon Tail
    Nature: Modest/Quiet
    EVs: 252 HP/4 Def/252 SAtk
    Item: Choice Specs/Assault Vest
    Ability: Gooey/Sap Sipper

    or
    -Dragon Pulse
    -Fire Blast/Flamethrower
    -Thunderbolt
    -Toxic/Dragon Tail
    Nature: Calm/Sassy
    EVs: 252 HP/4 Def/252 SDef
    Item: Leftovers
    Ability: Gooey/Sap Sipper

Bold is terrible for Manectric. I already suggested Goodra as a specially defensive tank, so find someone else.

    B:
Ferrothorn and Forretress are equally viable. I'm sure you have sets for both in mind.

See my comments on the special tank for team A.

Druddigon is an alright bulky attacker, but it has the wrong nature:
    -Stealth Rock
    -Outrage/Dragon Claw
    -Earthquake/Fire Punch
    -Sucker Punch
    Nature: Adamant
    EVs: 236 HP/252 Atk/20 Spe
    Item: Leftovers
    Ability: Rough Skin

    or
    -Outrage
    -Earthquake/Superpower
    -Sucker Punch/Fire Punch
    -Dragon Claw
    Nature: Adamant
    EVs: 236 HP/252 Atk/20 Spe
    Item: Choice Band
    Ability: Rough Skin

    or
    -Outrage/Dragon Claw
    -Flamethrower
    -Earthquake
    -Sucker Punch/Substitute
    Nature: Lonely
    EVs: 216 HP/252 Atk/20 SAtk/20 Spe
    Item: Life Orb
    Ability: Sheer Force

    or
    -Glare
    -Dragon Tail
    -Stealth Rock/Rest
    -Earthquake/Sleep Talk
    Nature: Careful
    EVs: 252 HP/4 Def/252 SDef
    Item: Leftovers
    Ability: Rough Skin

See my Samurott comments in A.

Male Meowstic has a good array of support moves, though you need to be cautious because of its bad defenses:
    -Trick
    -Psychic/Psyshock
    -Thunder Wave
    -Toxic/Yawn
    Nature: Bold/Modest
EVs: 252 HP/180 Def (Bold) or SAtk (Modest)/76 Spe
    Item: Choice Scarf
    Ability: Prankster

Also consider Mega Banette for its ability to annoy the opponent and hit hard at once:
    -Shadow Claw/Knock Off
    -Taunt
    -Will-o-Wisp
    -Destiny Bond
    Nature: Careful
    EVs: 252 HP/40 Def/216 SDef
    Item: Banettite
    Ability: Frisk

    or
    -Phantom Force
    -Sucker Punch
    -Taunt/Will-o-Wisp
    -Destiny Bond
    Nature: Brave/Adamant
    EVs: 252 HP/252 Atk/4 Def
    Item: Banettite
    Ability: Frisk

See my Skarmory comments in A.

Both team setups are terrible, IMO, since you have to have decided on your final members on both teams.

Oh, sorry. Yeah, the given Pokemon were just examples (which I used info based off of my previous teams) and this was mostly theory. I meant which template was better, which probably confused you. Anyway, my actual team (that I use) is curently being approved, so see that.

Even though it has a 4x Stealth Rock weakness and Talonflame can easily revenge it with Brave Bird, Mega Pinsir is a threat when played correctly and is given the right support.

lol, almost any Pokemon is a threat when played correctly and given proper support.

But Mega Pinsir is alright. Mega evolution certainly made it useable, but Scizor and Volcarona will still see way more usage than (Mega) Pinsir.
