What makes you think I like Awakening? ;)

I don't really have a favorite pairing, but I like to pair up MU with Chrom and Virion with Cordelia for some reason. As for my strongest unit, its kinda a tie between MU and Nah. Especially Nah. Nah is a ♥♥♥♥ing beast.

And a quick little list of my favorites:
    1) MU
    2) Lucina
    3) Nah
    4) Chrom
    5) Mix of everyone else

I kinda went on hiatus on playing Awakening for several months, but have really been wanting to get back into again. Especially cuz I need to finally finish my hard mode run. But I have all this other gaming stuff to do too.....

Oh, and what does everyone think of Awakening introducing the Classic mode/Casual mode thing?

  • Fire Emblem: Awakening was a surprising hit for me. I wasn't sure I'd like it, but I instantly fell in love with everything about it.

    Five favorite characters...

    1) Lon'qu
    2) Nowi
    3) Owain
    4) Lucina
    5) Olivia

I need to replay it soon, but I am letting a friend borrow it right now. Soon I'll replay and enjoy it all over again. :)

  • This is actually something I still need to pick up. I'm waiting on my employee discount at GameStop to kick in before I buy any new(ish) games though, haha. But I've had my eyes on this one for a while. I always wanted to get into Fire Emblem as a kid and with what's being said about this entry to the series, it seems like quite the time to do so.

  • Oh, and what does everyone think of Awakening introducing the Classic mode/Casual mode thing?

Hahaha fans of the series will rage at me, but I thought it was nice. Permadeath is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mechanic IMO. No one abides by it, we all restart the mission if someone dies. Also, there an extremely stupid thing with permadeath: if one of your units dies during a Xenologue (DLC chapter), the unit is gone in the same way it would happen in story missions. I find that to be ridiculous, since those DLC missions aren't even part of the game. If your unit dies to a Counter from an EXP Growth zombie, it's gone. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

The problem is that the game is designed around permadeath, so it makes some missions pointless if you play Casual mode, mostly missions in which you must save units that will be added to your party after the mission is over. Chapter 5 is a prime example of it. What they should've done is make these deaths count anyway as if you were playing in Classic mode, and apply Casual mode rules only to the units that start with you before the mission starts.

Also, Casual mode has one big advantage: mid-battle saves. Nice way to counter those pesky ambush reinforcements.

The game is fun, btw. Don't listen to the haters (especially those from a certain fansite...), the game's worth every penny and has incredible replay value.

  • I think I had around 250+ hours invested into this game before I got bored.

My 3 favorite characters (in order): Owain, Henry, cherche. Other than that I liked most characters save for few.

  • When it comes to Fire Emblem Awakening, I find that my most favorite character in the game is Tiki. In fact, in my Male Avatar game, I did not pair him up with anyone until I got Tiki. So Female Morgan ended up becoming one of my most powerful units. In my game where I using the Female Avatar, two of my most powerful units are Donnel and Gerome. Interestingly enough, in that game they are father and son since I paired Donnel up with Cherche.

Now when it comes to the chapters, my least favorite one is Paralogue 10 which is Ambivalence. This is because until Severa talks to a certain character, it is an escort mission. I hate doing escort missions.

Not to mention that the guy she has to talk to is on the other frickin' side of the map.

And does anyone find it weird that I've never recruited Donnel? I feel like I'm the only person who's never gotten him, yet everyone speaks so highly of farmer boy.

I'm in the same boat as you. I really want to get this game... But you know; Money's a real ♥♥♥♥♥ when you don't have any.

  • I really love this game. I've played it like a dozen times and I just recently finished fully training all the units on one of my files. They've all got great skills and are all the final classes and almost level 20. Took ages. My favorite character is my MC, who is actually a boy. I also really live Nowi, Cynthia, Severa, and Lucina.

  • Hmmm it's been a little while since i've actually played...
my favorite pairing probably has to be Cynthia x Gerome or Lucina x Gerome
Definitely not one of the better combat couples, but the interactions between those girls and Gerome I found incredibly adorable.

    Favorite Characters?
Cordelia, Gerome, Cherche, Stahl, MU, Lucina & Gaius

  • Hmmm, I wonder who my favorite Awakening character is. Hmmmmm.... I guess my favorites would have to be Anna, Stahl, Sumia, Gerome, Olivia, and Lucina. I don't really dislike any of them, though.

I really like the game, but grinding does get boring after a while.

  • Yes I want to talk about it!!!

Don't have any preferred pairings except Chrom x fem!MU. I just find them really cute together and absolutely cannot ever play as the male for that reason, paha. Just can't pair the MC with anyone else even if I do choose to play as the male. ]':

Favorite characters are Chrom, male Morgan, Lucina, Gaius, Olivia, and Cordelia though they're all really awesome. Nowi is too cute to boot too.

  • Hm, something about this game has been bugging me - yes, it's a wonderful game, but, there's a lot of mechanics that are missing from the previous Fire Emblem handheld series which.. got me disappointed, like, Fog of War? I used to really love stradegizing with that.

I dunno, to me, they didn't really focus on 'strategy' more so than fan appeal? If that makes sense? Not to say that they have really hard battles like.. Apotheosis and the DLC maps having the old Fire Emblem characters~

Another thing, the characters can be really, really OP, haha. Like Morgan? He/She is pretty broken as a spellcaster w/ Notsferatu. Like, they really did a great number on stats, hm.

Again, those are just things I've noticed; it's still a good game regardless. But eh, did anyone find faults within this game?

Nah, I get what you're talking about. Awakening is a great game from a JRPG standpoint, but from a purely strategy standpoint, it's not that good. A lot of the maps aren't conducive to strategy since most of them are large, wide open spaces that don't give you much tactical options. Then there's the fact that enemy reinforcements are done kinda poorly; they just randomly pop up whenever, and usually at terrible times. I think that there was only 2 maps in the entire game where reinforcements were done properly.

Grinding isn't as broken as some people think since (on hard mode, at least) exp. gains slow down quite a bit after a while, even on EXPonential Growth. Not to mention that some of the enemies on the harder maps are really ♥♥♥♥in' strong too *cough*Rouges and Reedeemers 3*cough*. So I don't mind that some of our units can be OP, since there's plenty of OP enemy units as well.

And I hate enemies with Counter.

But Awakening does have it's good points, like you said. It has a relatively good story, the characters are great (particularly because you get you own semi-customizable character), the music is great overall, the marriage+kids system is something new and fun the play with, and it's so nice that you can do other battles outside the main story ones. But if you're not interested in those things and just wanna play for the strategy aspect, you might not have such a good time with Awakening.

Which is why I like Awakening a lot: because I've never been that much into strategy stuff (probably because I'm a crappy tactician). And all the hilarious memes and stuff people make of it.
