I don't know if my friend is part of the forums, but he was surfing around i suppose, since he is making a hack of his own.

Ha, i don't think it's mean to do that, remove Marowak and the Hitmonchan/Lee. The 'starters' we get are pretty strong to begin with, at least so...early... in the game.

To add a little more, I loved the cameos in the base and thought the references were just classic. I also can't wait to see what missions you have in store for us to level up within the organization

Hey, thanks! :D Glad you like it so much.

Do you mind mentioning who referred you to ToxicPurple? I have a friend who emailed me today to say she'd gotten a friend interested in the hack, so I'm wondering if she was talking about you.

... Thanks for mentioning that. I'm going to move the Psychic TM to later in the game, too. Mr. Psychic refuses to give you a TM because he knows what you'd do with it if you got it: cause havoc and mayhem. Once you take over Silph, you'll be able to battle him and steal the TM.

(Man, I feel so mean. People keep talking about how cool it is that they can get a Hitmon and a Marowak and stuff and I'm going to put in measures to make sure that's impossible. XD; But this is going to be a long game, I can't let everyone get all the cool stuff before they even get to the third town.)
You always get rid of good stuff XD.

Well, if it was a 'he,' then it's definitely not the person I'm thinking of. XD She's an online friend of mine who told me today that she got one of her IRL friends interested in the hack.

Thanks, glad you like the game so far. And I hope the missions will live up to the anticipation.

You always get rid of good stuff XD.

Yeah, I'm just evil like that. XD

Don't worry, you get the good stuff back later in the game. And hopefully I can make up for taking away the good stuff with other features.

lol i was just about to say i taught my gastly psychic at lvl 3 and tarining it was the easiest thing ever in the tower! took like 10 minutes to get to lvl 20 lol
also i dont think anyone noticed but in the tower theres quite a few kinds of pokemon not just gastly, theres some shitty zubats but some cubones too and also some lvl 11-12 misdreavus which are i find one of the most fun pokemon to use.
also ckret i managed to beat sabrina in the gym battle, albeit with ****-tons of luck lol! my haunter hit every hypnosis, and sabrina's pokes missed alot of attacks and always hit themselves in confusion. haha it took like 40 tries to beat her though. my party is: haunter lvl 32, hitmonlee lvl 29, vulpix lvl 18 or 19 cant rmmber and rattata lvl 16 .

  • Hey, I don't know if this has already been asked or explained, but here goes.

Are Pokemon like Haunter, Gravaler, Machoke, Kadabra, Paliwhirl, and others be able to evolve with just an item? Like if you give a Paliwhirl a Kings Rock, it would evolve into Politoad. Or Onix and Metal Coat. I just want to point this out because some people love those evolved forms, (I love Politoad) and I don't know how many Pokemon from Kanto, Johto and Hoenn you're going to put in this game. So if you're not going to put a lot in, you could at least include the evolved forms.

It's just a suggestion, with insite on my limeted knowlege about what you're planning. But I would like to know. And again, sorry if this has been explained before.

Hmm... Interesting idea. Though why would a Pokémon that a trainer already owns become wild, when its trainer holds it in a Poké Ball? Pokémon that are in a Poké Ball are pretty much tied to their Poké Ball, so you can't catch a Pokémon in a Poké Ball if some other trainer already owns it. (Unless you're first-movie-Mewtwo, but if Mewtwo's really fixed on doing something a certain way, I wouldn't want to be the one to tell him he can't.)

So, the trainer you just beat would have to release his Pokémon into the wild, knowing that there's a Rocket standing there waiting to catch it, and then even heal it with a Revive or something to give the Rocket an opportunity to catch it since the Rocket probably just knocked it out in the previous battle.

Beyond the in-game logic, there's a mechanics issue: if there's a wild battle, if you catch the Pokémon, it'll automatically be sent to Bill's box. I'm trying to make it impossible to steal a Pokémon if your party is full, so that it won't be sent to Bill's box. It'll be an additional challenge, trying to keep your party down to five Pokémon at all times instead of getting to use six, in case there's an opportunity to steal a Pokémon. (How many Rockets do you see with a full party of six? Even Giovanni only uses five in his gym battle.) That wouldn't work with a wild battle, because there's no way to prevent catching a Pokémon and sending it to Bill when your party's full.

Yeah, I get the logic now that I think about it. I guess that it would be pretty stupid to send out a pokemon that your enemy had already taken out, just to get it stolen.
Mewtwo can steal with balls, well...because he is uber strong with psychic ability. It would be pretty weird for you to do that with Corey. So yeah, the mugging seems to be the best way to do the stealing.

Pardon? I never said that the other Pokémon would be evolving those ways--because they aren't. Onix will not be evolving at level 40, and Espeon and Umbreon do not evolve with the Sun and Moon Stones. I figure you're trying to compare ToxicPurple to Shiny Gold by describing how they evolve in that hack, but it's not very clear that you're just doing a comparison and not giving examples of how they evolve in ToxicPurple. But if you're saying that that's how they evolve in this hack, then that's completely wrong. I already described how trade evolutions will work earlier in the thread, and while I didn't describe Espeon and Umbreon, they evolve in a similar way.

And yeah, I noticed after I posted the alpha that I'd left off the script for that guy. It'll be fixed by the next alpha. (I'd actually had it written, but forgot to compile it. :P)

Yep, they all evolve without trading. And this game will include every Kanto and Johto Pokémon, including event legendaries, plus a handful of Hoenn Pokémon but (probably) not all of them.

Trade evolution Pokémon will evolve through the use of an item called PokéToaster, a Team Rocket invention you get in the Johto arc. It's called a PokéToaster because that's basically what it does to your Pokémon. Because Team Rocket isn't patient enough to get their Pokémon to evolve the right way, Pokémon that are difficult to get to evolve (essentially, all trade evolution Pokémon) will instead be forced to evolve with the PokéToaster. It looks basically like an evil microwave; you stick your Poké Ball inside, turn it on, and the Poké Ball with Pokémon inside is bombarded with high-energy radiation until it's forced to evolve. There's a warning on the side reminding trainers to take their Poké Balls out of the machine before they melt. :P It releases so much energy that a PokéToaster fries its own wiring when it's used, so they're one use only and pretty expensive. (What did you expect from Team Rocket? They're vicious, brutal trainers. :P) It's an offshoot of their research into forced evolution, and kind of a compacted version of the radio waves that they use at the Lake of Rage to evolve Magikarp into Gyarados, which is why it's about that time that you first get a chance to buy them.

In game, it acts like an evolutionary stone: click it in your inventory, click "use," use it on a Pokémon. It'll work on all trade evolution Pokémon like Haunter, Kadabra, etc., and even on Pokémon that would normally need a held item, like Politoed w/ King's Rock or Onyx w/ Metal Coat. Also, I'm replacing the Moon Stone with the PokéToaster--since it's a lot easier for me to rename an evolutionary stone than try to convince a new item to act like a stone--so all Pokémon that previously evolved by Moon Stone will be classified "difficult to evolve" by Team Rocket and made compatible with the PokéToaster. Eevee will be changed so that it evolves into Espeon through happiness at any time of day (since it's pretty much perpetually daytime in FireRed), and the PokéToaster will evolve it into Umbreon.

As to which other generation Pokémon will be included: like I said, all Kanto and Johto Pokémon will be available. Some will be available through theft only, so you'll want to keep an open slot in your party in case you're challenged to a battle with someone with a stealable Pokémon that you might not be able to get anywhere else. No guarantees on which Hoenn Pokémon will be included yet, but at a bare minimum there'll be the Gen III baby Pokémon (Wynaut and Azurill, because the incense and a day care center will be made available), Vibrava, and Deoxys. Haven't decided on any others yet, but there'll probably be some more.

  • Hey, the third Team Rocket isn't included in the official games, so why not have a couple Hoenn Pokémon migrate to Johto during that time? With the changebyte command, to change the wild Pokémon. If you can find where that data is...

The third Team Rocket isn't in the official games, no, but it's still happening at approximately the same time as the official timeline for the Kanto half of G/S/C. Still, I could probably sneak a few Hoenn Pokémon into the grass, yeah. I've already done a bit of region-crossover in Pokémon Tower, for those who've noticed: wild Misdreavus on the top floor. (Along with, as agel pointed out, some Zubat. And hey, agel: I happen to like Zubat, in moderation. :P Not so fun when you hit 50 million every time you walk into a cave, but they're useful to EV speed against. And for people who feel like they actually want to build a Rocket-esque Pokémon team, using the Pokémon that real Rockets use, then being able to catch Zubat early is useful.)

If I do put in Hoenn Pokémon, I'll probably start with Water-types, since it's pretty realistic to imagine that a Wailmer could swim around and end up in foreign waters. If there are more wild Hoenn Pokémon, there'll probably be a larger proportion of them in SW Johto, particularly along the coast, since that's the closest Kanto/Johto gets to Hoenn.

And actually, I can change the wild Pokémon in AdvanceMap. It's what I've been doing so far.

    And by the way...

To the people who've been beating the dojo and Saffron gym: Please cut it out. Unfortunately, you're going to have to start over the game eventually if you've already beaten the Saffron gym, and you may have to later as well if you beat the dojo. Sabrina's badge is going to be one of the most important flags in the Kanto arc, and if you set the flag prematurely, it'll make it impossible for you to do some of the earlier events that will be necessary for the plot to progress. So, if you've already got the badge, you're kinda screwed, and you'll have to start over. At least you're pretty near the beginning of the game, so you won't have much to redo. If you haven't got the badge yet, don't. Same goes for the dojo, because while its role in the hack hasn't been 100% solidified yet, I've got enough of an idea of what it'll do that I know that triggering those flags prematurely will cause more harm than good. (Like potentially losing the chance to get both of the Kanto Hitmons without breeding.)

Next time I release an alpha, I'll make sure that all the little things like gyms and items and script quirk that I'll "fix in the next alpha," I just do the first time, so that problems like this won't arise again. When you get to Cerulean, expect Misty to turn you down flat if you walk into the gym. :P

... Or maybe she won't. We'll just see.

Okay, I see. XD I'm not that familiar with Shiny Gold, so didn't know if you were describing what it did or what you thought I was going to do.

And yeah, I definitely like Golbat and Crobat more than Zubat, too. I'm part of the minority that likes Zubat as well, but its evos are easily much better. (Unless you're trying to get through a really long cave and get harrassed by a Golbat with Mean Look...)

  • I think you should add in a script the first time you beat a gym leader, where you ask the gym leader for a badge and they refuse, just for comedy value.

Yeah! I know you won't get to win against Misty, how about when you get to Pewter, you could battle Brock. Just that battle would be good. It would be so funny if he thought you were a normal Trainer and battled you, then at the end, when you ask for your badge, he realizes that you're a Rocket.

"You beat me... We'll here's your badge!"
    "..."
"What?! You're a Team Rocket member?! Then you can't have this badge! Go! Get! Scram!"

Ohh. This looks and sounds REALLY cool.
I can't wait to see it finished. Keep up the great work.
The PokeToaster idea made me giggle.

    TOAST YOUR POKEMON!

... And watch em turn into something even COOLER then toast!

"First time you beat a gym leader"? It's not like you're going to be beating a lot of gym leaders. :P

There's a slight chance you might battle Misty; I've got an idea that maybe, when you come into town, Red has just left and you run into Misty heading to the Pokémon Center to heal her Pokémon after losing to Red, and challenge her to a battle there since she's been weakened. So you pwn the leader and maybe steal something.

That's only a possible idea, though, and not even a very good one. Most gyms will just make it impossible for you to even get that close to the leader. Sabrina will teleport you outside before you can get close, Brock is out of the gym when you show up in Pewter, Lt. Surge locks his electrical gate from the inside and gets a couple of cops to escort you outside if you get close (and probably to fine you like $400 for attempting to harrass a gym leader or something), et cetera. Battling a gym leader and then getting turned down for a badge isn't even going to be possible, and if you're allowed to battle a gym leader, it will be as part of a special event, not by walking into the gym.

At this points, there are finalized plans for you to battle four gym leaders (counting both Kanto and Johto gym leaders). There are possible plans for another two, one of which is Misty. Not a single one of these battles occurs in anything vaguely resembling a gym/badge/league battle.

News of the next alpha: I'm working on the script for the first "promotion" battle now, with a field agent in the Saffron Base. Field agents, actually. (A cookie for anyone who can guess who they are, but it's not that hard a guess. XD) It's a double battle with four Pokémon total; considering that you'll have the option to challenge them right after battling the lv. 11 Marowak, what do you think appropriate levels for their Pokémon would be? I'm thinking either level 7 or level 8 for their teams, since several lower-level Pokémon can be harder than one higher-level Pokémon.

    clret2~

I would say if they are evolved Pokemon keep them 7/8 however if they are still first stage they could be as high as 10. Of course hopefully there will be some grass in the next Alpha so if its a struggle we can train? :)
