The game crashes if you go to the lavender town pokemon centre then get whited out.
Really? It didn't do that to me. Thanks for letting me know; I'm going to make it so you can't warp to the Pokémon Center at all in any case, so that shouldn't be a problem in the future.
I had an idea of a possible work around for this. It's kind of complex but it could just work. You go to one of the extra 25 slots in the Pokedex and turn that in to a clone of a Marowak but you make both abilities Arena trap and you make your Rattata a custom made Rattata in the same way. Would this work?
Sure, it would. And possibly make different sprites?
It *could* work, yeah, but I'm not fond of the idea of putting two entirely new Pokémon (which are basically the same as two other Pokémon) into the game for the sole purpose of a single battle.
I played through the alpha, and I have to say, though there are many problems with the alpha, none of them are a reflection of your skills, just things that need some time to polish. The basics of it were awesome. I'm no Trainer/Pokemon Lvl. Expert, but I certainly felt like team rocket, running back and forth to the base's pokecenter to heal. The heightened levels were more challenging, and the Evee Biker wasn't that troubling, just a little. One thing that annoyed the hell out of me though was one of the channelers with Ghastly. It put my Vulpix to sleep with Hypnosis, and then killed it (Critical Hits Galore) which left me with nothing but my Rattata, which new Tackle, Tail Whip, Quick Attack, and Hyper Fang. All normal moves. So not only could I not attack the Ghastly, but the Ghastly couldn't attack me either, lick being noneffective. So this clusterf*** of a battle ended with the Ghastly killing me with struggle, due to the fact that he only had 2 moves to run out of PP for, whilst I had four. It made me very bored.
Yep. That Gastly does the same thing to me. I actually meant to change it, because on the way up Pokémon Tower, the Channelers are all supposed to have "normal" Pokémon (Bellsprout, Clefairy, Paras, that sort of stuff), and once you've defeated Marowak and are heading down, new Channelers come up with Ghost-types. (That should be what's happening, if I set the right flags on the Channelers; does it work? Has anyone bothered to head back down Pokémon Tower after beating the Marowak, or did everyone figure that once you get the Machete there's nothing else to check out?) I could give a long explanation for why I decided to do this, but that'd probably bore everyone. So, having a Channeler on the first floor with a Gastly breaks that pattern. I'm going to change it to a Cubone or something.
Anyways, I had an idea for what tools to use as a rocket for the HMs. This is what I came up with:
Fly: Hanglider, Hot Air Balloon?
Strength: Crowbar, to wedge the boulders over?
Rock Smash: Rocket Firecrackers/Dynamite
Surf: Rocket's Emergency Raft.
Flash: Flashlight, lol.
Waterfall: Grappling Hook, a motor for the boat. This one stumps me.
So anyways, I hope to see incredible progress, this being an awesome hack. I hope I've helped, given you insight about how to solve the HM Replacement issue.
Great ideas. I particularly like the dynamite. (Wouldn't it stink if you had to buy new sticks of dynamite every time you wanted to go into a cave? But then you might run out of dynamite and be stuck in a cave with no way out, so I doubt I'll do that.) At this point, though, I've only got good ideas for how to script Cut, Strength, and Rock Smash without needing a Key Item, and possibly Waterfall. I don't have any ideas how to script items to behave like Fly, Flash, or Surf yet. (But don't worry about Flash. I'm going to make all caves Flash-free, so it won't even be an issue. Apparently, Rockets just have better night vision than twerps like Red. :P)
With Cut, Strength, and Rock Smash, the rock/plant is moved by a script that's on the rock/plant; it checks to see if you've got a Pokémon in your party with the correct move, and checks to see if you've got the right badge, and then activates. All I'm doing is making a script that checks to see if you have a certain item in your back, and activates if it does. With Waterfall, I could potentially just line every waterfall tile with Signpost scripts that cause you to go up. But with Fly, Flash, and Surf, the script isn't attached to an independent item (like a tree) but is apparently part of the move itself, so you have to go into your party and click on a Pokémon and tell it to use that HM move. To replace those HM moves, I'd have to put that script on a Key Item (which includes much more details hacking than I can do yet), and then find a way to eliminate the requirement for a certain badge. Or leave in that requirement, and just make sure that you have the right "promotion" before getting the item. I could conceivably line every single coast in the entire game with Signpost scripts you can use to activate Surf, but that'd be a bit much.
Technically, you could make a modification of the shiny hack in order to make a wild Pokémon always have the same ability... But if you have a satisfactory solution already, go for it ;)
Hah, even the shiny hack is beyond my level of expertise right now. I'll try for another solution before turning to that.
I really think the trainers are too difficult. Aside from the psychic and the twins, I can't beat a single one (Poliwag is my starter). It's a combination of the levels, the number of Pokemon that each trainer has, and the items. If there were wild Pokemon to train against, it would be a bit easier.
Aside from that, I really like this. It's just annoying when you're struggling against every opponent.
I'm going to reduce the items the trainers have, and lower the levels on some of them a bit. And add some grass patches in the first route.
i didnt really find the trainers that hard. also, i would say to leave the muk lvl 7 in there lol the exp was great especially since once your pokemon get to a certain lvl, and youve beaten all the trainers, there is nowhere to train.
also i like JDJ's ideas for hm items.
Hah, I'm afraid that a lvl 7 Muk might give a bit too much experience. It really shouldn't be a Muk anyway; it was an accident that I left it in, and it's just unrealistic to imagine that someone could get one at level 7. Super Nerds aren't that brilliant.
also, i dont really like the choice for starters. does it always have to be water/grass/fire? especially since one of them has just 1 evolution, id say the 3 of them arent equal. maybe choose between like rocket-type pokemon like koffing or ekans or zubat grimer etc.... or have like stuff most ppl arent familiar with like doduo, magnemite, and drowzee as options?
Yeah, I know they aren't equal, but couldn't find any three-stage fire evos or enough two-stage grass & water evos. (That's assuming a water/grass/fire triangle, though.) Someone suggested Staryu and Eggsecute for the water and grass, since then they'd all be two-stage evos, which I kinda like; but then two of the starter options would be part Psychic...
There's still the option of not having a water/grass/fire triangle, of course. The problem with that, though, is that then there's a question of what to replace it with. The triangle, repetitive as it is, is still a big part of the Pokémon games, and it's a good rock-paper-scissors relationship. It's easy to make a well-balanced trio of options out of them. Leave that pattern, and the choices just get kind of random.
I'm deliberately not going with typical "Rocket-type" Pokémon. You're stealing Pokémon from a little girl. Why would a little girl have vicious-looking Poison-types, all of which either have nasty fangs or are hazardous to your health? You'd expect little girls to have Jigglypuff or Pidgey or Pikachu or something.
Even though it's not a traditional starter trio, it should at least be sorta logical. Right now the best way I've seen of keeping it logical is going with a water/grass/fire triangle.
this is just minor suggestions though in general, i rlly like this game and it has a real bright future if you ask me, lots of ideas in the making am i right
Thanks, glad you like. :D Oh yes, definitely quite a few ideas in the making.
