Buy a gun off the street and a mask from a store a few months in advance. Then walk into a store in the evening with no customers, put gloves on before you open the door, have the mask on and shoot an employee to death. Then just walk out of the store, take the mask off, conceal it in a coat and get away from the crime scene.
Chances are, the authorities wouldn't be able to link the gun to the person that sold it to you since illegal guns change owners a lot, and there would be no other evidence linking you to the crime, (in-store surveillance wouldn't be that useful since you're wearing a mask).
What's most concerning about my idea is that it isn't very hard to do, assuming you aren't terrified of getting a gun off the street. (However if you want to kill someone and get away with it, then you probably would have no issue getting a gun off the street, and risk being robbed/mugged/murdered). Also, this works best if you commit the crime in a mid-large city, therefore you won't stand out much, and buying the gun and mask in different towns/cities than where you committed the murder in, will make this even more effective.
Yeah I'm too much of a true crime buff.
