Don't forget Starmie. And as a bonus, some sets for each:

    Starmie:
    -Hydro Pump/Surf
    -Thunderbolt/Psyshock
    -Ice Beam
    -Rapid Spin
    Nature: Timid
    EVs: 252 SAtk/4 SDef/252 Spe
    Item: Leftovers/Life Orb
    Ability: Natural Cure

    or
    -Scald
    -Rapid Spin
    -Psyshock/Ice Beam/Thunderbolt
    -Recover
    Nature: Timid
    EVs: 248 HP/32 Def/4 SAtk/224 Spe
    Item: Leftovers
    Ability: Natural Cure

    Blastoise:
    -Water Pulse/Scald/Hydro Pump
    -Dark Pulse
    -Aura Sphere/Ice Beam
    -Rapid Spin
    Nature: Modest
    EVs: 252 HP/252 SAtk/4 SDef
    Item: Blastoisinite

    Excadrill:
    -Earthquake
    -Rock Slide/Iron Head
    -Rapid Spin

    Solo in Competitive Play

I am trying to find a Pokémon in gen 6 that would be the most effective in competition as a solo Pokémon. Is this possible?

Pokemon who don't need much support are very difficult to come by. However, some Pokemon who suit that description are Genesect, Mega Lucario, Aegislash, Deoxys-S, and Mega Venusaur (reference).

I actually didn't think about Deoxys-S, but that may work. I could also use Mega Venusaur, but he doesn't get the best type coverage with his relatively support-based moveset. I can't use Mega Lucario, though, because my group of people competing decided that we can't use the megas that other people are using... Would Infernape work with Shadow Claw, Close Combat, Flare Blitz, and Swords Dance?

Infernape is too frail for any form of setup; Lucario gets away with it because of its good defensive typing. Make do with Aegislash:
    -Shadow Ball
    -Iron Head/Shadow Sneak
    -Sacred Sword/Shadow Sneak
    -King's Shield
    Nature: Quiet
    EVs: 240 HP/252 SAtk/4 SDef/12 Spe
    Item: Leftovers

    or
    -Shadow Ball
    -Shadow Sneak
    -Sacred Sword
    -Iron Head/King's Shield
    Nature: Quiet
    EVs: 252 Atk/252 SAtk/4 SDef
    Item: Leftovers/Life Orb

    or
    -Swords Dance
    -King's Shield/Shadow Claw
    -Shadow Sneak
    -Sacred Sword
    Nature: Adamant
    EVs: 240 HP/252 Atk/4 SDef/12 Spe
    Item: Leftovers

    or
    -Swords Dance
    -Autotomize
    -Shadow Claw
    -Sacred Sword
    Nature: Adamant
    EVs: 84 HP/252 Atk/4 SDef/168 Spe
    Item: Leftovers

    or
    -Autotomize
    -Shadow Ball
    -Hidden Power (Ice)
    -Sacred Sword/Iron Head/Flash Cannon
    Nature: Rash/Modest
    EVs: 88 Atk/252 SAtk/168 Spe
    Item: Life Orb/Weakness Policy

  • Um... Hi!

I've been doing a bunch of IV bred Pokemon, sort of forming a team with them, and I decided that I wanted a SubSeeder. I love their concept, and they are very fun to use. So... I remember hearing about how Whimsicott makes a wonderful SubSeeder, so I searched it up, and I see why now, with Prankster.

But now, looking at all it's possible sets, I'm not sure if I should go with the standard SubSeed set. Any suggestions on how I should use Whimsicott? Because now I REALLY want to use one now!

Honestly, SubSeed is a waste of a Prankster user's utility.

Whimsicott is best played as a disruptor with annoying status moves:
    -Encore
    -U-turn
    -Memento
    -Switcheroo/Stun Spore/Taunt
    Nature: Impish
    EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 SDef
    Item: Lagging Tail/Leftovers
    Ability: Prankster

Even though Trevenant and Exeggutor are slow, they can utilize SubSeed viably because of Harvest:

    Trevenant:
    -Substitute
    -Leech Seed
    -Will-o-Wisp
    -Phantom Force
    Nature: Impish
    EVs: 252 HP/180 Def/76 Spe
    Item: Sitrus Berry
    Ability: Harvest

    Exeggutor:
    -Giga Drain
    -Psychic/Psyshock
    -Sleep Powder
    -Rest
    Nature: Modest
    EVs: 248 HP/176 SAtk/84 Spe
    Item: Lum Berry
    Ability: Harvest

    or
    -Substitute
    -Leech Seed
    -Psychic
    -Sleep Powder/Protect
    Nature: Bold
    EVs: 248 HP/176 Def/84 Spe
    Item: Sitrus Berry
    Ability: Harvest

Sceptile is also one of the best SubSeeders because of its good Speed:
    -Substitute
    -Leech Seed
    -Giga Drain/Leaf Storm
    -Hidden Power (Fire)/Focus Blast
    Nature: Timid
    EVs: 4 Def/252 SAtk/252 Spe
    Item: Leftovers
    Ability: Overgrow

Ludicolo also makes a good SubSeeder in rain (though it won't last long in X/Y):
    -Substitute
    -Leech Seed
    -Toxic
    -Scald/Ice Beam
    Nature: Bold
    EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 SDef
    Item: Leftovers
    Ability: Rain Dish

  • I need some help on a Wobbuffet set.

So far i was thinking of this:

    Wobbuffet
    Leftovers/Sitrus berry
    Calm
    4 HP/252 Def/252 Sp.Def

    Encore
    Mirror Coat
    Counter
    Safeguard

I'm not sure how effective Wobbuffet really is, but it seems like an interesting Pokemon to use

Wobbuffet is certainly viable, yes. Its move pool is very small, and this set is the best it can do (though it can also use Tickle, but that's another story). The preferred EV spread is 28 HP/232 Def/248 SDef with a Bold nature to optimize Wobbuffet's bulk.

How much do the +1 stat boosts actually give? Is it a certain percentage or a fixed number? For instance what would a +2 80 base speed state equal to?

And I was wondering the same thing with choice items as well.

Never really understood how those worked, just kinda went with it.

A +1 in a stat means that the stat is multiplied by 1.5. Continuing on:
    +2: x2
    +3: x2.5
    +4: x3
    +5: x3.5
    +6 (max): x4

    A Jolly/Timid/Hasty/Naive base 80 Speed Pokemon's maximum Speed at level 100 is 284. At +2, it would be 568.

Awesome, thanks. That helps a lot when using or coming up against a boosted mon.

I wouldn't recommend Curse with Goodra because its Attack is lower than its Special Attack.

I wouldn't recommend HydraRest on Goodra because of the Drizzle nerf. It's best off as a tank or a specially defensive wall:
    -Draco Meteor
    -Fire Blast
    -Thunderbolt/Sludge Bomb
    -Focus Blast/Dragon Tail
    Nature: Modest/Quiet/Sassy
    EVs: 248 HP/252 SAtk/8 SDef
    Item: Leftovers/Assault Vest
    Ability: Gooey/Sap Sipper

    or
    -Dragon Pulse
    -Flamethrower
    -Thunderbolt
    -Toxic/Dragon Tail
    Nature: Calm
    EVs: 248 HP/8 Def/252 SDef
    Item: Leftovers
    Ability: Gooey/Sap Sipper

If you're insistent on HydraRest Goodra, here's how to do it:
    -Rain Dance
    -Dragon Pulse
    -Muddy Water/Focus Blast/Thunder
    -Rest
    Nature: Modest/Calm
    EVs: 248 HP/252 SAtk/8 SDef (Modest) or 248 HP/8 SAtk/252 SDef (Calm)
    Item: Leftovers/Damp Rock
    Ability: Hydration

  • When competing in the live tournaments, is it really a need to have flawless pokes or near flawless? I have this Larvatar with max ivs in all but Atk and Sp Def, Should I keep trying to get a 31 Sp Def?

It's not absolutely needed or anything, but it is what's recommended. When it comes to competitive battling, every bit of stats matter (well at least to me, anyway).

Got a quick perfect IV question. How can I tell if a Pokemon has perfect IVs in Pokemon FireRed. Mainly for the Starters, but for anyone? Thanks!
