Able followed Argus along the path, occasionally digging underground to get out of the sunlight. She was quieter than usual due to the rather awkward meet up they had earlier... she wasn't sure what to say to the guy without getting some kind of smart reaction! Able just... kinda stared at Argus as she followed behind. "...So uh... why'd you become an explorer?" Able simply asked.
Argus glanced sidelong at the Nincada, ducking beneath some underbrush coming off of the nearby trees. It seemed like the road was beginning to transform into River Belle Path.
"To see the world, of course. Why else?" he chirped, barely looking back at Able.
Able just continued to stare on curiously. "Seems like a simple enough reason." She replied as she tried catching up to him. "Well! I've always been curious in what being an explorer is like! On top of that...well I just wanna do something! Being out in the wild most of the time wears a girl down after awhile!" Able said, mostly making it detailed to try and top Argus. "Dunno what things were like with you but I figure you got pretty bored with how things were too right?" Able said.
"The Ember Forests rarely have a dull moment," Argus responded simply. "I don't get bored. What is that?"
He raised his nose and sniffed the air. "I smell wood. The old bridges of River Belle Path, perhaps? I think we're here," he finished as he stepped onto one of the rickety old bridges, not even stopping to take notice. "Yeah, smells like it." He took a few more steps and only paused when the sound of creaking wood became more than a little evident.
He glanced down at the decaying bridge beneath him, staring through a large hole that dropped off into a rapidly flowing creek. "Oh."
Able just blinked at his response. Never got bored? She found that very hard to believe! She was discovering more reasons to not like this Argus fellow! Able quickly stopped when they approached the decaying bridge and peeked over the ledge. "Ah geez... this thing..." Able said looking back to Argus. "... I'm pretty light so I should be able to cross without a problem. You however... hm..." Able inspected the bridge to check its condition.
"Oh well," Argus said with a slight shrug, continuing to cross over the bridge. "I suppose you're right."
"Wha-...H-hey you!" Able shouted at Argus. "Are you crazy? Look at that thing!"
Argus continued to trot across the bridge without a care in the world. He was already more than halfway across. What would be the point in turning back?
Able huffed at Argus and shook her head. "Gyah! Hold up will you?!" Able said in a frustrated tone as she stepped onto the bridge and started to slowly make her way across.
"If I hold up I don't think the bridge will!" Argus called back cheerfully. "Besides, can't get to a group of bandits without taking a few risks, right?"
"Yeah yeah! Ugh." Able muttered as she continued across the bridge. Who did this guy thing he was? Always acting like he was so much better then her... she couldn't wait to top him in the end!
Almost as if in response to Able's mental comment, Argus stepped off the bridge, the shift in weight causing it to bounce uneasily.
Able felt the bridge suddenly shift and wobble around a bit. "Ah!" She shouted as she nearly lost her footing. She did not want to end upside down again! She froze up over the bridge, glancing down at the pit below. "W-warn me before you do that! I'm not as heavy as you are!"
Argus turned back to Able. "Oh? Sorry. I'll make sure to—"
"Look at me."
Argus hesitated, raising an eyebrow. Had he just heard something?
"Over here. Look at me!"
It was barely a whisper, but something was speaking to him. "Do you hear that?" he yelled to Able.
Able looked up at him as if shocked. "Hear what?! The sound of the creek down there? Yup! Heard it one hundred percent!" Able said as she started to move forward.
Argus frowned. The bug had heard nothing.
"Look!"
He looked around, trying to make out the source of the voice. His eyes locked onto a bright red and white object.
"Down here!" the Foongus whispered, wiggling its head at Argus. The fennec fox kneeled down and sniffed the mushroom.
"Isn't the point of camouflage to keep you hidden?" he asked.
The Foongus froze and glared at Argus. It pouted its stubby arms for a moment before suddenly flailing about violently. Argus gave a tiny
yelp as the Astonish caught him off guard.
"Don't tell me how to live my life!" the small fungus yelled. "Capture on!"
Argus shook himself off and cocked his head once he regained his footing. What?
"Grow, grow, grow, grow! Stick to the Stun Spore quo! If you wanna be cool, follow one simple rule and stick to the Stun Spore quo!"
Argus wasn't entirely sure he understood that reference. "Do you even know Stun Spore?"
The Foongus halted again, the power of Growth faintly glowing around him. "What's it to you?"
"I dunno, I just figured—"
"Attack!" the Foongus yelled, releasing a torrent of light green energy with Absorb.
Argus ducked to the side and loosed a flurry of Embers at the mushroom. It squeaked in pain and stumbled backwards.
"Now you've done it! Prepare to face mine fury!"
Argus narrowed his eyes. He sneezed out another few Embers and then used his paw to gently push the Foongus, causing it to roll back into the underbrush.
"You'll never be rid of me! Never!" the little fungus declared as it tumbled out of sight.
Argus' ear twitched. That was strange. He glanced back at the bridge. "You coming?"
Able eventually crossed the bridge. She totally missed out on the fight and everything!...even though it wasn't much of a fight to begin with. "Congrats, you spat fire on a mushroom. Comon lets go. We still have a ways to go." Able said with a frustrated tone.
Argus frowned. A real kill joy, this bugger. Heh. Bugger. He chuckled a bit at his mental pun.
As Able moved on forward, she noticed another small river nearby... thankfully not several miles down a giant pit, but on the downside, there wasn't exactly a bridge to cross. Not from this part of the river anyways. The stream was moving much faster then what Able remembered.
"You gonna try to cross this one too hotshot?" Able teased, pun unintended.
Argus stared at it for a moment, as if seriously considering the idea. "I could try, but it probably wouldn't work."
Able laughed. "Ha! Yeah I doubt that fluffy fur on you would look too good if it was all wet!" Able teased once again. "Guess we'll just have to walk around it then. I know there's a way around this thing..." Able would notice something just above the river. A Yanma moving fairly quickly as if taunting Able! It seemed to be focused on Able.
"A Nincada? Where's your buddies? Got bored with them or something?" The Yanma taunted. It was one thing or another.
"I can't explore a little? Look do you know an easy way across this river or what?" The Nincada asked.
"I think I'm a buddy," Argus said flatly as he stared up at the dragonfly.
The Yanma moved closer to the water, just lightly tapping it. "I don't seem to have much trouble! Guess being able to fly kinda helps with that!" The Yanma said. "I wouldn't help you anyways. You're in my territory. Turn around." It threatened.
"Dragonflies have territory?" Argus questioned.
"Yeah no." Able said as she held up her claws. The Dragonfly sighed and was swift to ram right into Able. However she was able to hold her ground pretty well.
"Comon you call that an attack?" Able shouted as she lept to scratch the Yanma with her claws. However it just simply flew up into the air.
"Use your stubby little wings!" Argus yelled.
"Oh so close!" The Yanma said. Able sneered at him.
"Aren't we making something out of nothing?" chirped Argus.
"Oh no! How can I ever reach you now? Without the ability to fly, it looks like it's hopeless!" Able said sarcastically. She quickly focused her eyes on the Yanma. While it was busy taunting her, Able would quickly vanish out of thin air. Before the Yanma knew it, Able swiped at the Dragonfly with her claws from behind using Feint Attack!
"O-ow! H-how did..." The Yanma wondered aloud as it ended up on ground level. It decided to take its tactics to a more evasive approach and used Double Team, making several after images of the Yanma. "Ha! Try and hit me no—" The Yanma was quickly interrupted by another Faint Attack from behind. Pin point accurate thanks to being unable to miss with the move. The Yanma would flop to the ground.
Argus glanced between the two insects. "Am I missing something? Are you actually evil and just not telling me? Rude."
"Gah!... O...ow!...blasted bug...wait... are you..." The Dragonfly looked over to the Nincada. "...Ah!"
"You wanna tell us a good way across this river now? Cause I'm alright with pounding ya some more." Able said, swiping at her own claws.
"I think you're evil."
"...Just further down the river. A couple Pokemon made a makeshift bridge. A log. Should be easy to cross." It simply said.
"Thanks! Comon Arby!" Able said, not getting Argus's name right at all.
"Yeah, she's evil," Argus decided.
