I always nickname my pokés, normally random names like Javafirato the Dragonite, Soledome the Jolteon, Landers the Crobat, Sonny the Gengar, Kawee the Blastoise, Gankem the Gyarados and so on so forth. I feel like not naming them or naming them something like "John" would be the same as calling your pet "Dog".

  • I nickname my Pokemon when I think of a name to give them, but I usually always tend to nickname them after my friends or online friends as a joke. The nickname I gave one of my Pokemon in Pokemon white was to my Oshawott and the name was "Osha--WHAT?!".

  • If I posted my nicknames here, I'd get banned because mine are based on sexual things.....

But I did nickname some Poke's with appropriate nicknames:

    Big Beast -- Garchomp
Pika, Thunder, Bolt, Flash -- Pikachu
    Beast -- Dragonite
    Ding Dong -- Bronzong

    I usually don't nickname though....however when I'm bored, I use nicknames for a battle with a friend.

  • I rarely nickname Pokemon. I'm usually content to just go with their species name, really. I like my Pokemon and all, I guess I'm just too lazy to nickname them all.

  • I'm neutral about nicknames, if I do it's because I don't like the species name or I just don't feel like not nicknaming it

  • I do it for fun. I name them after characters in Books/Movies most of the time. But sometimes I forget to. My Servine's name is Percy :D

  • Well ... I don't really care about nicknames. Although some (Pokemon) call for one ... like Bacon the Tepig, or Wotter the Oshawott ...

  • I get pretty creative with my nicknames.. and I usually end up recycling some of the better ones from previous generations (1,2) that I remember on to newer guys in current generations. I almost always nickname because just seeing that standard default name makes me frown. Usually theme the names for the 3 special guys you get.

    Memorable ones -

    Shockwing - Zapdos
    Frostwing - Articuno
    Flamewing - Moltres
    Cinderpaw - Entei
    Stormpaw - Raikou
    Articpaw - Suicune
Cosmicwing (didn't know at the time while a psychic type in Gen2, Lugia does not learn a single psychic move on his own) - Lugia
    Prismwing - Ho-Oh
    Timescar - Dialga
    Astralfux - Palkia
    Omega - Mewtwo
    Alpha - Mew
    Erothos - Groudon
    Aquiel - Kyogure
    Winrae - Rayquaza
    Noctl - Umbreon
Ilkatur (just me putting letters together, doesn't mean anything) - Dratini
    Reggie - Pidove
    Samba - Ludicolo
Ninny (Joke "trading pokemon".. my sis lol'd soo much she transfered it to BW as a novelty) - Bidoof
Jub-Jub - Mr Mime (was a Mimejr at the time)
Scatts - Darmanitan (In White, they talk about using his droppings to heat clothing. I was like fer srs, you kiddin me?)
Scatman - Probopass (not to be confused with Scatts :P)

Been having trouble with the newer generations though.. running out of names and ideas. Not sure what to call Reshiram or Zekrom, but I'm sure I'll think of something when I read their DEX Entree. Usually have a better time with legendaries being I can give them fantastic nicknames due to how powerful they are.

Nah, I did once but I just ended up with imature nicknames relating to porn or other disturbing things. Not many would want to trade for a Machamp named "Roidrage".

I always do in order to at realism for myself haha. Think about it, you wouldn't adopt a puppy and call it "puppy" and eventually "dog" after it grew up, would you?

  • I don't have a nickname that always goes with a Pokemon, but I have multiple nicknames, and based on what Pokemon I use, I'll use a different combination of nicknames. My usual nicknames are:

    Titan
    Blitz
    Radar
    Orion
    Nyx
    Meteor
    Grace
    Mercy
    Sentinel
    Major
    Crow
    Venus

  • I rarely nickname my Pokemon, because I'm not that good at making names. Though, I remember playing my Silver for the first time and I named my Chikorita "Chika". Evolving into a Meganium, it felt awkward to call it Chika. xD

  • I usually do nickname them. I usually have a theme going on for each game. My first run through of White, all my pokes were named with native american names that meant something about them, like their color, appearance, or if they were hard to catch/find.

  • I tend to give my Pokemon nicknames; all of them even the ones that I do not like (such as Gardevior). I usually give them their original names or nicknames of their original name.
