I see that the evolution method for some Pokemon has been changed. I had a Flaafy way over Level 30 and it didn't evolve into Ampharos. By looking through the GitHub data, I found out that it needed to have a maxed Defense in order to evolve... I have mixed feelings about such changes. This is okay with Pokemon that evolve via Trade or other methods unavailable on emulators. But as for other Pokemon, I'm not sure... I assume that in the "faithful" version, all Pokemon (except traded ones) evolve normally?
Where are you getting this info? I raised the level to 35 in non-Faithful because it's part Dragon. In data/evos_attacks.asm:
Code:
FlaaffyEvosAttacks:
if DEF(FAITHFUL)
db EVOLVE_LEVEL, 30, AMPHAROS
else
db EVOLVE_LEVEL, 35, AMPHAROS
endc
I absolutely LOVED the Celadon University! It's definitely one of this hack's highlights. It's really large and well thought-out. You really made a great research and included almost everything! I loved the Hyper Test and the prize. The only things I would improve would be - a reference to the fact that Westwood's ancestor invented the PokeBall (I haven't found any reference to that, but maybe I missed something). Encyclopedia Pokemonica even gives the exact date - 1925 (so, that would be Westwood III, I guess? Westwood I probably lived somewhere in the 19th century, right?). The Dean could be referred by his Japanese name, Prof. Matsumoto. Although if PokeSPedia releases in English, they might give him an English name (he's mentioned there, among minor characters). Also, I was a bit disappointed that Imakuni didn't use his theme from TCG but I guess this is a matter of time? Anyway, great job!
I reserved the 1925 trivia for one of the Pokémon Journals. And I was unimpressed by the TCG music; it's clearly composed for a slower, more sedate card battle.
On the other hand, I didn't like the re-expanded Mt. Moon all that much. At this point of the game, such a dungeon doesn't really make much sense. In RGBY, it was the first real dungeon in the game. This time, it's just an obstacle that you don't really want to go through. I guess it could be a bit bigger than in GSC but re-expanding it to the RGBY size doesn't seem like the happiest idea to me. Also, Mt. Moon Square should be easily available. I know that you won't change it back, but how about making the way to Mt. Moon Square easier?
How about (a) reducing the wild encounter rate, and (b) adding a Nurse who heals your team after you beat her? (Yeah, I changed my mind and added that class after all. There are a few locations where they'd be useful, like on that long Route 12+13+14+15 stretch.)
I see that most of the new locations that you added are inspired by PokeWalker roads. However, how about "Uraga Channel"? Does this name reference something? To me it sounds like something from Rijon (and as far as I know, the Rijon location names are pretty much meaningless).
Google it and you'll see that it's the real-world channel crossing Tokyo Bay.
Similarly, the Lucky Island (by the way, how to get there, I see it on the map but can't find it), does it reference anything?
It's just a silly idea I had. Set the trendy phrase in Shamouti to "Lucky".
Again, a matter of taste. But I noticed that you kept the HGSS' change of music in the Slowpoke Well (from the Dark/Ice Cave music to Union Cave/Ruins of Alph). I think that things were cooler when it used the Dark/Ice Cave theme. Even in Brown, it played the demixed version of its old theme. Or perhaps its music will totally change in future release? Anyway, great that you kept Mt. Moon and Mt. Moon Square music intact. What HGSS did here was unforgivable.
The Dark Cave theme was used for too many caves in my opinion. If you think there's a better theme from another game, please suggest it; check out the Music Player for what's already being used.
It's a pity that you removed that "House for Sale" notice from the house on Route 5 (former Day-Care). I know that it was probably an oversight in the original but it gave rise to that funny theory that the people living there are actually ghosts, which would be nice to reference.
That sign is now on an actually-for-sale house in Fuchsia.
How about giving Corey a Gengar, because of Movie 20?
Cool, Neesha and Corey are in the new movie? Anyway, he has six canon Pokémon already; I don't know who I'd replace.
