  • Bumppity Bump Bump, Triple Post Bump.

Over the past week or so I've made some great headway with Shimmering Tempest. I've completed one and a half towns, a route, and redesigned the first floor of Frigid Cavern so that it is now decent and does not require you to gouge out your eyes before viewing. Some scripts need to be polished, but I have most of them done to a state where I am satisfied.

Since nobody replied or elaborated on my post above, I have come to the decision of what type the first Gym shall specialise in, though none but I shall know for the moment. Rest assured that it will be a challenge, especially since I am considering limiting you to only using three or less Pokemon to even begin the match (Good idea? Yes? No? Comment pl0x).

I haven't done anything major enough to warrent screenshots, but more shall come as I push ever deeper into Shimmering Tempest.

  • That's a pretty good idea, and some of your features caught my attention.

    >>New Movesets / Base Stats for some previously forgettable Pokémon!
I really want details on that =)

    >>Areas specifically designed for the swapping of Pokémon – Introducing Trade Houses!

That's even better! Instead of just rupturing your head on "where that Pokemon might be", you might instead have a great variety of pokemon trades! hence the EXP boost.

Moving on, your World Map is also neatly organised.
The plot is a new color, too. Well thought out and suspensive (the Gray colour hurts my eyes a bit, though, eheheh)

    >>it will be a challenge, especially since I am considering limiting you to only using three or less Pokemon to even begin the match
By that, do you mean that you must have caught only 3 Pokemon or just have 3 or more empty slots in your party in order to battle?
If I'm guessing the bold part, then it has both Pros and Cons.
    Spoiler:

Still, you might as well not have advanced a lot on catching Pokemon by that point, so I personally don't mind.

Finally, concerning the first Gym, it's good that you came to a final decision, but I'll state my opinion nonetheless:

    Thanks for those kind words.

Ohohoh... Thats for me to know (for now), and you to find out ;D

It will mainly concern Pokemon which are seen to be a bit 'flat' in the battling stakes. Things like early Bugs (Caterpie, Weedle etc.) and common Normals (Rattata, Sentret etc.) will be reaping the the benefits of my modulation, while other Pokemon may recieved the odd move change or stat boost/ drop. At the moment I seem to be in the habit of sacrificing a stat for the benefit of the others, e.g. Furret has a beastly attack, but its Special Defence has been reduced to compensate - So most Pokemon will have more defined roles (Special Sweeper, Physical Wall) than being a rounded Pokemon.

Indeed. I've always been a fan of Trading, so I thought I might as well make it more prominent while deteriming how future events turn out depending on certain trades made... :3

Moving on, your World Map is also neatly organised.

    Thank you.

The plot is a new color, too. Well thought out and suspensive (the Gray colour hurts my eyes a bit, though, eheheh)

Once again, thanks - Sorry about the eye damage, though :S

    >>it will be a challenge, especially since I am considering limiting you to only using three or less Pokemon to even begin the match

If I'm guessing the bold part, then it has both Pros and Cons.

Yeah, its the bolded part I'm focusing on, but I'm thinking about Implementing the system used by the Battle Frontier (Namely, walking up with as many Pokemon as you want, and choosing three to fight with - If its possible, I've struck gold). The Cons aren't really cons in the long run. If anything it will make a player re-think their team, see how their Pokemon stack up against the cream of the crop and employ strategies to overcome the Leaders.

I always considered BUG type to be the best as a first Gym; it's not too easy, not too difficult, and BUG Pokemon have early evolutions, too (because i'm tired of seeing haxxed evos on first gyms, like 15 lvl Pigeotto etc.)
Again, it is my personal opinion. Don't mind my BUG obssession, though. =P

Bug was a type that was on the shortlist to head the Gym, but it eventually fellout to the current (mysterious) victor. On top of that, I hate those cheating Gym Leaders aswell, You'll never see any of them hanging aroud - Lv9 Pidgeotto my ass!

Thankyou very much, NiKaNoRou, for your attention to the first post and stating your opinions on Shimmering Tempest, I find it to be very sincere and pleasing. I hope you comment in the future as more and more is revealed...

And I forgot to mention in my last post: I shall be instituting a couple of trainers on a number of routes that are stronger than most others at their rank. Egg moves, items and high AI values will not be off limits, so you'd better be prepared for each battle - you'll never know who is a cheater master in disguise!

  • Well having High AI values for trainers in the beginning of the Game is not a pretty sight.
But yeah High AI is a good Thought.

Yes, that is very true, but in the early trainer battles, Pokemon only have 2-3 moves, so AI won't come into play all that often. From the second Gym or so onwards, where Pokemon have a full set of moves, the AI will really reveal itself to be a force during the battle.

  • Anyhow, i'll be supporting your hack from now on =)

So, moving on, there's plenty more to ask and converse about.
Below there is a list of question that I wolud like to be answered (never mind if you don't want to answer, you can keep secrets, that's the magic after all/if you don't know yet, it's okay, too. I'm just expressing interest)

    • How many Pokemon will you be able to catch?
    • Will there be 4th gen/fakemon included?
    • Which are the pokemon starters?
    • Will the whole game be based on events or be freelancing?
    • How many badges do you need to obtain?
    • What is the name of this Hack referring to?
    • Will there be custom OWs for the Hero/ine and the rival?
    • Any custom sprites for the Pokemon?
    • Any custom items?
Also, here's a suggestion from me: almost 95% of the people here dislike HM slaves in a hack. If you can turn HMs into items, you would have a great boost. Well that's what I think about.

    Cheers.
P.S: there's more from where that came from! expect more replies. Keep it up.

At the moment I am planning to have all 251 Kanto/ Johto species, but I am undecided as to wether I should include Hoenn varieties. I'm probably leaning towards saying yes, due to the fact that 251 is never enough these days, and besides, what is a Pokemon game without diversity?

I have no plans to introduce Sinnoh Pokemon or have some Fakemons because I'm terrible with Pixel Art and doubt that I could neatly fit all of them into the game.

    Which are the pokemon starters?
Will the whole game be based on events or be freelancing?

I want to stress that this has nothing to do with HG/SS, but the starters will be the Johto Starters because I've played FR/LG so many times the Kanto Starters appear to be dull and lifeless - While Johto is new and envigorating for a player who has done nothing but train Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle a million times over.

I'm going with the Linear Collect-Badges-And-HMs-To-Advance-The-Trainer-And-Subsequent-Story-Further-Style of play. I have no idea how removing restrictions would allow a story to progress, or even a trainer to. One minute they would be fighting Lv2 Rattata, the next they'd be up against a Lv46 Gyarados. Restrictions save people from being overwhelmed or entering places which are far to strong for them. I am a Luddite.

How many badges do you need to obtain?
What is the name of this Hack referring to?

The good old bog-standard Eight Badges can be collected in Lowen. I like game canon so I'd prefer to stick it. Besides, it doesn't mean that I have to change the trainer card or anything :O

You'll find out when it comes out ;P

Will there be custom OWs for the Hero/ine and the rival?
Any custom sprites for the Pokemon?

As stated earlier, I'm a terrible spriter/ OW/ Tile maker so if there were to be any inserted into the game, I certainly wouldn't be doing it. At the moment my focus is on mapping and scripting with editing on the side, but if I reach a point where I feel like a new hero/ine (or line of OWs) would be a breath of fresh air, I would definately contact someone with the skills which I lack :P

Also, here's a suggestion from me: almost 95% of the people here dislike HM slaves in a hack. If you can turn HMs into items, you would have a great boost. Well that's what I think about.

But HM Slaves are fun; look at Bidoof, he loves it!

I might, though I'm not 100% hooked on the idea.

Alright, that is just as awesome! At the moment I'm not looking for help - I want to see how far I can go by myself before my newbiness catches up with me - but the support is far more than just envigorating.

Having lots of Pokemon is everything about this game, but personally I like having a wide variety =)
I have no plans to introduce Sinnoh Pokemon or have some Fakemons because I'm terrible with Pixel Art and doubt that I could neatly fit all of them into the game.
I'm asking for fakemon because you are introducing a new region. So it's a natural thought by me that new regions include new Pokemon. I have some experience in Fakemon spriting (from scratch), so I might help there if you decide to add them.

I second that. JOHTO it is, then.

That's the best and most correct argument you'd put up. Moving on...

Haha, okay, so the E4 will exist, too?

Huh? isn't it already neat? Anyway, I edited it and now there's link to your topic, too.

Haha, neat. But as I said, I'm not really considering the possiblity of Fakemon, espicially if implemented on a large scale. While I'm not saying no to the idea, I'm leaning pretty close to it.

    Yep, brand-spankin' new.

    It was just a suggestion.
Then again, it was JUST a suggestion.

But they got me thinking about finer aspects which I hadn't taken into account. These two questions tweaked my mind into thinking "what if..." - I have to consider the possibilities, as they could both be implemented.

    I'll be waitin'.

  • Bumpitty, Bump, Bump. Double Post Bump.

Sorry about not posting for the past couple of days, I was on holidays with my parent and didn't realise that there wasn't internet in the middle of nowhere. At least I was able to catch-up with a lot of work that I had been putting off for a while. At this point, I have about 95% of scripts made (For maps already created) inserted or ready to be inserted, which is pretty good for someone who likes to keep pushing forwards - Edits and errors were also corrected. My mapping is also on a role - I made a massive forest map for players to get lost in and call for mummy just like I did after a marathon work session. And on top of all of that, I had a flash of inspiration as to my story. My lips are sealed at the moment, but rest assured the it will be very... Interesting...

I've done two seperate playthroughs so far, and let me tell you, it is a challenge. Essentially, you can't progress from one route to another without lifting all of your Pokemon two or three levels because you'd be hopelessly outclassed and outgunned by opposing trainers. I'll be kicking the difficulty gauge down a notch or two over the comming days, because otherwise its just going to stay as a massive grind-fest, which I'm sure nobody wants.

During my time away, I also came to the conclusion that I can't level script to save my life. I had two guides with me and attempted to do the examples provides, but it was to no avail. Watch this space, but don't hold your breath.

I also ruined my world map. I made a route where there shouldn't be one, but I'm not dropping it. Edits to the World Map will be taking place shortly.

Here come the part that everyone loves: Screenshots! I have four of them today, but rest assured that there will be more taken over the next week or so.

    Spoiler:

Finally, I have found my first bug that kills the game :D - If you open up your party menu while in the same room/ map of a certain sprite (The kid with the GBA) you will switch bodies and have super-restrictive movements. I have no idea how to fix this, so it looks like I'm going to have to cut the GBA kids from the land of Lowen, which is a shame since the up-comming Trade Houses won't be the same without them...

Anyways, long story short I did a lot of work when I should have been relaxing and posts are money. Keep on posting, peoples! :D

will there be one in every city?
What will you do in them?
Is there a pattern on trades?

Looking forward to your answer. Except if you are keeping this for the release, then I suppose I'm stupid for posting that xD

  • Bumpitty, Bump, Bump. Triple Post Bump.

    Hooray, posts :D

I did heaps of stuff yester, the majority being experimentation with the Pokedex order and alternate entries (Team Snag'em's tools Rock!); I have some screen shots of my results further down, but for now I'll just ramble on about nothing. I made a preliminary Pokedex last night, based on the Pokemon that you can encounter in maps and trainerbattles already built into the game and included their extended families. At this point I have reached a grand total of 109, and I haven't even begun to design the second gym, so how's that for variety, huh? :P

The number of 109 also indicates that I have finally settled on allowing Hoenn Pokemon have some action in the game after wavering for a while due to the limits of encounter space and how that would affect the encounter rates of other Pokemon. But, I shall be taking a page out of zel's book and only putting one or two on a route, as well as making them rare (but not to the extent of Shiny Gold).

I also finally mapped most of Poliberg (still have to do the Gym, though), Lowen's very own police-state rolled into a compact size. With a HQ, gym and suprise script that shall skew the story beyond all reason... Its going to be awesome when I finish...

Anyways, screenshot time, and yes, the Butterfree is wild :P

    Spoiler:

Here are some Pokedex entries that I made for the starters and their evolutions (Note: I will be doing alternate entries for some Pokemon, but not all Pokemon :/).

    Spoiler:

    Reply time :D

Therre won't be one in every city, but most sizeable cities will have them.

I think its pretty obvious what you do with them XD

What do you mean by 'pattern'? :/

Looking forward to your answer. Except if you are keeping this for the release, then I suppose I'm stupid for posting that xD

Well, I guess that that I can say that in some trades, you might unlock some things the further you go into the game. I'm not going to say what will happen, or which trades it will apply to, but I'm giving everyone an incentive to trade, beyond getting Pokemon that level-up fast. And don't me started on what happens once you've completed every single trade.

Dude, this is going awesome!! I would expect this to be nothing less than AWESOME!!!! The screens are really good. It's really well organized! Wow.... The story and everything looks really good.

Hehe, thanks mate! I like organisation and planning ahead, and I like awesome even better.

I can also make banners, so if you want me to, just PM me telling what you want on it. Anyways, good luck!!!!!!

Cool, I can only make User Bars decently, so a benner wouldn't hurt. Is it okay if I cantact you in the next day or so?

I'll play this when you have the beta's released. (That is, if I can by then :P )

Speaking of Beta's, I've been meaning to say this for a while, once I have progressed the story beyond the second Gym and into the realm where it actually starts to come into focus, I'll be asking for Beta Testers. Its a a week or two away, but I'm just letting everyone know that I'll opening up spots soon.

Anyway, posting in this thread keeps it alive and stops me from having to bump it, so keep 'em post people. Wether its a comment, encouragement, or a brutal shake to reality, to think it! Post it!

To Other Posters: Please don't ask if you can be Beta Tester right now - I need to actually get my work to a point where it can be tested acurately.

The second generation of pokemon is my favourite so I totally agree with the idea of second generation starters! Team rocket is a legend (I mean that it;s the first team at pokemon) so a recovery of them is something that will attract many pokemon fans! Sure me!!!!!!!!!!
