After all, there is no way to factually say:
"GSC was factually better than RSE".

Yes there is. Surfing routes are objectively un-fun. G/S/C was approximately 15% surf route (I can't confirm this in any way, so I'm pulling this number out of my ass), while R/S/E was approximately 110.5% surf route. Mathematically, G/S/C is 15% un-fun, while R/S/E is 111% un-fun. Factual data, yo.

    Mr. Person:
I don't get why you shouldn't state opinions in a discussion? After all, there is no way to factually say:
"GSC was factually better than RSE".
Exept... if you look at reviews.
Pokémon Gold scored higher than Pokémon Ruby/Diamond review-wise. And that's a fact, you can check out some review sites, and you will see that this is most often, if not always the case, examples of some sites are:
    IGN, Gamespot, gamerankings.com.

Also, here's sales figures on Pokémon Gold and Silver/Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire:

Pokémon Gold and Silver: 14.51 million approximately: 7.6 million in US, 6.91 million in Japan
Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire: 13 million worldwide

Check this out yourself at: Best Selling Games

Pokémon Gold & Silver both sold more, and got better reviews.

Of course people are gonna use objective and personal views when they argue, but if you need statistics, statistics you'll get.

Those sales figures prove nothing. Pokemon Gold and Silver was out for much longer, not to mention R/S was out only a year before the DS was released, so people shifted their interests a lot more because of how new and different the DS was.

493 is too many. But I dont think it should have stayed with 150 that would have gotten stale real quick. I just think that each time they added, they added too many to where now it is out of hand.

For example the 2nd gen could have added about 30 new pokemon and the same for 3rd and 4th and so on. That would still bring it to 240 by the 4th generation. They could have focus on making a few good additions instead of a bunch of mediocre ones. And adding them at that rate would easily let even the oldest fans keep up.

Hmmm might as well throw an opinion out

I dont think 493 is too many i mean heck my cousin whos only eight knows the names of them all i think what it comes down to here people thinkin the original were way more fun because we were younger then it was simple i mean i love gold and silver but i love diamond and pearl just us much.

more pokemon for me means more choices when restarting and on wifi and can try new pokemon out the original 150 may have been your favourite but theres no need to say that everything after that is useless.

honestly if we were to keep it as 150 i could think of a fair few "originals" i wouldnt want around.

    just my two cents

The games are better with more Pokemon to collect and choose from in my opinion, but not the anime. To me the anime lost all appeal after The Orange Leage era because of all the new Pokemon coming in, besides Pikachu I see none that I loved from the show when I started watching it in the beggining, and Pikachu is no doubt only there because of his insane popularity (I love Pikachu to death, but it's probably true)

So yeah, the show was definatley better when there were only 150 Pokemon IMO

Wow. I just talked with my cousin about the one hundred fifty one Pokemon. Now there's a whole crap load of Pokemon now. I can't even remember the Pokemon from one hundred fifty two from the end.

    count me out of this'n

I can't believe it's been 10 years since there were only 150 Pokémon. Back when it first started I didn't really care for it, but then in 1999 I got Yellow Version for a Christmas present and got into it right then.
Next came along Gold/Silver/Crystal, and the 100 new specie introduced with it... and so on.

I pretty much got out of following Pokémon once Hoenn/Generation III came into existence.
I can hardly remember the names and numbers of even the original 151 now!
I've already forgotten the names and numbers of many of the Generation II (GSC, 152-251) specie.
There's no way I could keep track of now 500+ when I had a hard time remembering all the first 251!

I never expected the list to grow by so much as it has now!

Yes. I remember the first day pokemon came out and not everyone was into it right away but they soon built up to it. I remember having like the first 10 pokemon beckett magazines. I would go in town with my dad, maybe buy a few packs, get a magazine, maybe booster box. Now they have tins and boxes in different shapes and crap... What ever happened to the good old days. I miss the old pokemon. I remember when I would wait for Burger King to come out with more toys or cards for the 150 pokemon out and then dad would bring me home a few everynight when he went out to work in town, until I had them all. I remember sitting down on the couch watching Charmed on tv, waiting for him to come home to have burger king for supper and for me to play with my new toys. That was when the toy cards cam out where you had to put them in their stands and they would light out or make noise or something. I loved them. For christmas me and my brother would get like 15 packs of pokemon jungle cards, and we would look at each others... Good old days :(.

Now, the pokemon they are making look so un-creative that I kind of don't know what half the things are suppose to be. I bought Pokemon Diamond and Pearl and haven't played it yet, and that was about 3 monts ago or more. I'm scared I won't know how to play it since pokemon is getting so high tech, along with the new nintendo consoles...

I decided to forget about it after reading this thread.

It's obviously not worth it if we have to argue about stupid stuff like how terrible the new Pokemon look, how change is good, how R/B/Y brings back good memories, how children can memorize 493 Pokemon and would have no problem memorizing more, how you quit Pokemon after so and so generation, or how Pokemon is a cash cow and needs to be milked dry.

You like Pokemon Red? Then play it and stop complaining about how the new games suck.
You want more Pokemon? Then wait for them to come out.

And I love every Pokemon to death. If they make good Pokemon, then great. Continue playing - more money for the Pokemon Company. If they make bad ones, then oh well. Quit Pokemon. Who cares? One less buyer equals one less game to make. One.

    Just play the damn game.

Which VGCats? I don't remember seeing that...or is it the one with the old GB consoles and the "new" DS Kids

^^You can't remember a set of 6 pokemon? Man, you should get an MRI on your brain, that's a possible problem.

I think we've come to what I guess would be considered a conclusion.

Two groups of people here, 1 group likes all pokemon and likes change and likes new things. The other group likes the original and doesn't want it to change and can't count to 400, and thinks that the world will never be as great as it was when he or she was 12 years old.

Let's come to grips with that and move on.
