RPGMAKERXP Help?

so i just started using rpg maker xp this morning and go to a good start with the starter kit made 3 cities now and route connecting each but i am having a few glitches i guess? here they are

character does not appear on map? its just blank (using wally character set)
and when i try and warp to a new map i get this error

my last glitch and a very minor one if that certain events aren't ending when told? it keeps starting over again after the last script? so how do i end certain events...i tried erase but then prof.oak disappeared..and yeah and help for a nooby like moi?
