Sophrosune
"Welcome to the World of Pokemon!"
And what a way to begin. You were apart of a group of college students that were traveling from Johto to Unova to study abroad that year. You were enjoying a lovely ship ride there.
Then tragedy, of course, strikes.
Your ship weirdly crashes, and no one on the boats knows why. The group of students thankfully meets up with the captain of the boat, Capt. Davis, and run to his personal escape boat. Right before you get in, he tells each one of you to grab a backpack near it, belonging to who knows who so at least you have something for wherever the group ends up. You all hop on and get a great head start away from the collapsing boat. Watching it as you drive away, you see the horror of it killing everything else on the boat, with no other signs of life leaving it. Everything you had and brought for your trip, that including any previous Pokemon you had, are now lost under the sea. Capt. Davis says he knows where they are, and that he can make a safe trip to Sinnoh, which is not to far off from where they were.
All good, right?
Gas depletes, and you're now mercy to the powerful waves that suddenly come by, steering you off course and away from where Sinnoh apparently was. Great.
The rest of the day goes by, and you fall asleep, unknowing of your future. You wake up to hear Capt. Davis yelling in delight that the waves are shoving you over to land nearby! You end up on a small portion of beach that's apart of a town by the name of Nutteini. It's ridiculously small for a town, having very few buildings and the strange aura of claustrophobia. Upon exploring the town, you find out you're in the region of Sophrosune. Please tell me that's a good thing. All we need is a boat or airplane out of here, right?
Sorry. Sophrosune has no airplanes or boats going out of it. Its history is a colorful one, constantly having revolutions, civil wars, and threatening other regions. Once the rest of the regions declared they are cutting off all communication with Sophrosune, saying that if they so much try to or initiate war, the rest of the regions will team up and make Sophrosune smoldering rubble. No one is allowed in or out. After being segregated from the outside world, the region went under martial law, and is now being run by a new type of government that stemmed out that. The Authoritative Organization of Sophrosune, or AOS, is what they like to call themselves. They have good intent; in fact, their main goal is to reconnect Sophrosune with the other regions and live together in harmony with them. However, they've felt the needs to use some "assertive" techniques. This was inspired thanks to the increasing number of Marauders, who have this unrelenting desire to take over Sophrosune and have anarchy. Why they are constantly increasing in population and even working together in groups is unknown to the AOS. The Marauders are known to attack people with their Pokemon to steal the victim's Pokemon, things, pretty much anything they can get. There have definitely been some stories of taking over towns and kidnapping, too. The AOS, in rebuttal, have bordered all routes and cities in their control with a tall barb-wire fence and patrols. Anyone seen coming over that fence from uncontrolled areas or has any suspicion around them to be or associated with Marauders is taken in for interrogation. If found guilty, they, well "disappear." Not that they necessarily die, they just…. disappear. No bodies have ever been found. Many towns, cities, and routes are blocked off by the AOS barbed wire that use to be apart of Sophrosune as a whole. Whatever is not controlled by AOS is dubbed Marauder territory.
Well that's lovely.
Well, anyway, you're stuck here in Nutteini Town. The group of you discovers that there is a Pokemon professor in the town! Maybe they know something about how to get off of this wretched region despite everything. The professor, the jittery Pr. Marili, says that there is a rumor that the Champion of the Pokemon League has special privileges to leave and participate in activities in outside regions.
Pr. Marili, seeing as most of you are eager, sets you up with a choice of Pokemon eggs, which she has had for a while and can't hatch them all herself. She's weirdly given each one a name….
Spoiler:
Jester Egg:
The egg has a bright and shiny yellow color that feels as though if you touch it, it will bounce back like it's a balloon. There are purple triangles coating it everywhere in a slapdash fashion. It's light, and its warmth gives an almost a cozy feeling.
The Clandestine One:
It's black, to say the least. Its color looks like one took an eyedropper from the midnight sky and poured it all over its rough complexion, which feels like it has miniature quills attached to it. It's fairly heavy, but has good, healthy warmth to it.
Rabbit Ruby:
The egg is a deep crimson red. It gives off this unmistakable aura of joy and mystery, and seems to beckon for deserved attention and care. People who've passed by it have always called it "cute" for some reason. It's as light as a feather and almost unbearably warm.
Cookie Dough:
A rather fitting name, its base is pure white with chocolate-colored polygons scouring its surface. It gives off this air of silence and serenity. It's heavy and rather cold to the touch.
Dirty Max:
It is emerald green with this pattern on it that would make it look like it cracked long ago. The scar is so obvious that it would feel awkward to bring it up. It's about medium weight and has no temperature to its touch.
Mr. Genie:
A shimmering purple color, with a texture that would make one believe its shell was created with sand. It has this air of elegance around it. It's decently heavy and comfortably warm.
Hoodsy:
Its name isn't lying- it looks like a mysterious black face with red dots for eyes wearing a sinister green hood. It feels like its looking into your soul and has eyes everywhere on its shell. It's very light and gives off no warmth, but makes your hands feels clammy.
Kelp's Supper:
It has a turquoise face with green wavy lines stemming from its top down to its just above it bottom, like seaweed was covering it. It feels as though it's ready to adventure. Its weight is horrifically heavy and it's ice cold to the touch.
Calm Poser:
Its pale white with strange black markings on that sort of seems like music notes. It has this air of unpredictability and condescendence about it. It's a little heavier than normal, and the warmth to it feels like it's trying too hard to be the perfect temperature.
Wick Wire:
It has this odd zany red-and-yellow pattern on it that looks like eccentric battling lighting bolts. It has this energetic and zany air about it. It's as light as air, and has no warmth to it.
But all of Pr. Mirili's… odd names aside, which one appeals to you more for your journey to be Champion and get out of here?
Or, do you want to leave? This is a brand new region with untold mysteries! Maybe you want to explore those instead? Seems like fun, and you never know what you could stumble on.
Perhaps you agree with the AOS…. Maybe you can save the world's relationship with Sophrosune and finally bring peace to this region and redeem its past!
Or, maybe, the Marauder life is for you. Maybe you like taking things to aid with your Pokemon training and think about it, if they take over the region, just imagine the possibilities once they do for you future. Livin' the good life! Where do I sign up?
Whatever your goal is, there's one thing you all can agree on. This was sure not what you thought your first journey as a trainer would be like.
By the way, what backpack did you pick up? It contains what you are able to start of with, and you're certainly going to need it. Was it the…
Spoiler:
---
Now unlike other RP's, there is a special system that goes along with your character.
It is called the Luck System.
Spoiler:
In addition to your items and Pokemon, things that occur during your journey will cause you to gain and spend Luck Points.
There are a variety of ways that you can gain luck points. The easiest way to get them is to have fantastic posts.
+ 0 pts
Post was mediocre. Length, grammar, creativity…. One or more things were extremely lacking.
+ 1 pt
Post was at least enjoyable to read. It lacked a certain something.
+ 2 pts
Post was overall decent. Nothing bad, just…. nothing good either.
+ 3 pts
Good post! There was a charm to it, but you could definitely do better.
+ 4 pts
Great post! One or two little things prevented it from becoming absolutely amazing.
+5 pts
Awesome. Descriptive, creative, just pure amazing. You deserve this.
You gain them throughout the story, too.
+ 7 pts
Defeated Gym Leader!
+ 5 pts
Defeated AOS officer or Marauder!
+ 3 pts
Defeated other RPer or NPC trainer!
Always be creative- many things can gain you Luck points, you just have to find them. If you do something kind or useful (for yourself or otherwise), you might just find you get luck points for doing that. Like, take for instance this freebie luck point getter:
+ 3 pts (+Extra pts depending on how much the tip was)
Paid full price for an item or group of items and tipped the seller at least 100 yen.
+ 1 pt
Paid full price for an item or group of items.
Get imaginative!
But, of course, I discourage keeping all your points like a hoarder. As such, you can only hold up to 50 pts at a time. Also, with gaining, there of course comes the spending.
If you got some luck points to burn, please, don't hesitate to spend them for one of these special "things!" If you spend your points on a "thing," in addition to your mission, an event will occur that is beneficial to your character in the RP. It can range from finding 100 yen on the ground to having a special bred-move Pokemon egg just given to you! The more you spend buying a "thing," the greater the "thing" will be. The scale is (Nice, Good, Great, Fantastic, Awesome, and Ultimate).
- 1 pt
Nice thing
- 2 pts
50/50 shot at Nice thing or Good thing
- 3 pts
Good thing
- 4 pts
50/50 shot at Good thing or Great thing.
- 5 pts
Great thing
- 6 pts
50/50 shot at Great thing or Fantastic thing
- 7 pts
Fantastic Thing
- 8 pts
50/50 shot at Fantastic thing or Awesome thing
- 9 pts
Awesome thing
- 10 pts
50/50 shot at Awesome thing or Ultimate thing
To purchase your "thing" from me, simply just place the request on the bottom of your last post for that mission like so:
"….and Jane decided top take the left road, even though she thought the sinister trees were disgusting to look at and appeared to want to claw her eyes out."
For the next mission, I would like to buy a 50/50 shot at Good thing or Great thing for 4 pts, please. :3"
Easy as that. It's always a good time to spend points, whether you need another golden throne or just need a pick-me-up to brighten your days as a pauper.
Now, now, now, now- don't even think that's the only thing you'll be spending points on. During the course of the story you'll be using your luck points for other things, too. The easiest way to lose points is to catch a Pokemon.
- 1 pt
Caught common Pokemon!
- 3 pts
Caught infrequent Pokemon!
- 5 pts
Caught rare Pokemon!
And, if you're ever so lucky to find a legendary, well,
- 10 pts
Caught legendary Pokemon!
There are also things I will pick out during the story that would decrease your luck. Don't be hasty to join or with posts now, I usually take off very small amounts of luck points for things your character does, if any. This is simply a balance maneuver so you're not gaining too many points a round. For example, you remember that barb-wire fence that clears AOS-controlled areas? Well, if you want to jump back in without getting caught:
- 2 pts
Jumped the fence without getting caught.
Now, don't feel all discouraged that you're not going to be able to save Luck Points since you're losing them as fast as you're gaining them. And don't fret about "OMG IS THIS LINE GONNA MAKE MY LUCK GO UP OR DOWN?!"
Really, don't. That would make me sad.
This is all the primer so you know what I mean when I give the mission comments. Here's an example of what will happen after your mission post:
@BladyDeDeBlaMan – Lovely post! I can't believe you got that creative with your personal mission! Dude, keep up the good work, seriously.
Your Luck Points increased + 7 points.
Spoiler:
+ 5 pts
For having amazing post.
+ 3 pts
For paying full and tipping that waitress at the Diner 100 yen.
- 1 pt
Caught the common wild Starly!
So that's pretty much it. If you don't have luck points, you've, well, run out of luck. Then you get Unlucky Debt if you take Luck-Spending actions.
Let's for instance, you have zero luck points in the mission where you decided to jump the fence. You'll still get out scot-free; however, you'll have 3 pts in Unlucky Debt. Fate is displeased with your careless spending and intends for you to pay the price with some misfortunate events. Thankfully, you can only have up to 20 pts in Unlucky Debt. Hopefully you guys will never end up here.
Remember those "things?" You know, what you spend to have good things happen to you? Well, well, there are flip sides to everything. These will automatically happen to you in addition to your next mission. They unfortunately can range from losing some contents of your backpack to losing one of your Pokemon to a sickness or to a river. The scale this time is (Unpleasant, Mean, Nasty, Horrible, Dreadful, and Destructive)
Negative 1-3 pts
Unpleasant thing
Negative 4-6 pts
Mean thing
Negative 7-9 pts
Nasty thing
Negative 10-12 pts
Horrible thing
Negative 13-16 pts
Dreadful thing
Negative 17-20 pts
Destructive thing
Now, there is one last thing to note. You can buy, regardless of your points, a nice-ultimate "thing." Even if your points are in the negative. So yes, that means you can potentially have an ultimate thing when you're 20 pts in Unlucky Debt, however, the constant backlash would probably kill you. Seriously. If you get a bred-move egg because you got an ultimate thing and you are hit by a destructive thing at the same time, your side-mission for your "things" can mix together where your egg falls and breaks to its death, causing you to pointlessly write about how your future ace in the hole smashed on the pavement before it even had the chance to think about hatching.
Don't temp fate. You should only buy things when you're in the red if you're desperate.
And don't think you can leave this RP without getting a "thing!" Each round, one random person, regardless of their points, gets granted a "thing" of random degree that minuses from their points. If that person already bought something, the random "thing" adds on to their count. Example:
Miss. Savannah wanted to buy a nice thing for 1 pt in her next mission. The random "thing" landed on her, and it was of 4 pts value towards a 50/50 shot at good or great thing. The points add up and go towards her final point costing to 5 pts for a great thing. Don't worry though, you can't spend more then the regular 10 pts "thing." Even if you bought something for 7 pts and the random is 5 pts and lands on you, you only have to spend the maximum 10 pts.
And don't worry about having your marauder character being luck-dry because they're not doing good things like tipping waitresses. No matter if you're a saint or stabbing people in the throat because you want to try on their shoes, luck point distribution is not biased to people with morality. There are plenty or ways to can get bonus luck points for being a raiding lunatic.
In short, fate is weird and you'll be constantly pressing your luck. As they say, you'll need all the luck you can get!
….Seriously, it's like the universe's currency. Do it.
Now the Pokemon system. It differs from the usual RP's, too.
Welcome to a Pokemon universe where they are twenty types. Yep! Each individual type has five defenses and weaknesses, and all the Pokemon you've come to know and love will have different typing. There are also new moves they can learn, making even Pokemon you've raised before in other RPs or actual games a new and exciting experience.
Key: The type on the left are defending, which mean the top are attack types from opposing. Blue is Not very Effective and red is Super Effective. (Take for instance, if you travel the horizontal line for Colorless, you'll find out that Beast type attacks are good against it.)
Here are the matchups:
Confused to what the types mean?
Spoiler:
Colorless is like normal type.
Temperature is like fire type, but can pertain to anything that deals with rise or lowering of temperature.
Fluid is like water type, but it pertains to any Pokémon dealing with any type of fluids. Like Grimer.
Plant is like grass type.
Ground is like ground type.
Wind is like flying type, but it pertains to anything that can control air.
Light is psychic type, but it includes to the ability to control light rays, etc.
Aether is a new type, pertaining to the mystical abilities of space matter.
Dark is like the ghost and dark types.
Mineral is like the rock type, but slightly different.
Ersatz is a new type, dealing with artificial abilities of the Pokemon.
Beast is like fighting type, but it is much more broad and pertains to a lot of bestial creatures.
Snow is like ice type.
Magic is a new type, dealing with having abilities of mystical power.
Electric is like electric type.
Insect is like bug type.
Venom is like poison type.
Haze is a new type, pertaining to the ability to create fog, expel misty or smoky attacks, etc.
Noise is a new type, dealing with the ability to expel loud of soft sounds or control sound as a whole.
Fable is like dragon type, however, much more broad and deals with Pokemon who have powers of old ages passed on to them that they can tap into.
???? is a new, mysterious type spreading around genes of all pokemon. Any Pokemon can apparently be tacked on with this type, but it is rare. New attacks having this type are also popping up, even if the Pokemon itself is not ????-typed.
And also, we have stats. Because we're actually using the damage formula, people! if you want, this is all the technical stuff:
Spoiler:
And evasion formula is in action, too.
Having fun yet?
Don't worry, this is just like the games, and I'll just tell you what damage it did.
Experience is organized differently though. Each Pokemon gives out a pre-determined amount of experience points when you defeat it, and I'll be keeping markers, so I'll tell you when your Pokemon has leveled up. Don't worry, you won't be level grinding unless you want to train a Lv. 15 Charmander with Lv. 1 Bidoofs.
We'll be using the whole enchilada, IVs, EVs, etc. IVs will be chosen by a random number generator. And like the sneaky Nintendo company, the IVs will be hidden from you and only be known to me, so you don't discriminate your Pokemon. EVs depend on what Pokemon you battle. Remember though, you're in an unknown region without any map, so EV training will be a bit hard to do when you have no idea what the Pokemon you'll be facing. This is realistic.
Level
When a Pokémon grows a level, its stats will increase. For each level gained (ignoring nature), stats will increase by 1/50 the base stat value. This means that it is impossible, through leveling up, for a Pokémon to ever lose points in a stat unless it evolves into a Pokémon with a lower base stat value for that specific stat.
Nature
Most natures enhance the growth of one stat, while hindering the growth of another. After all other calculations are finished, the stat that the nature enhances will be 110% of what it would be without the nature, and the stat hindered will be 90% of its normal value.
Leveling formula:
Thanks Bulbapedia for all the formulas!
When dealing with speed, we're taking it simple and whichever Pokemon has the highest speed gets to go first.
Another simple thing we're doing, is that every Pokemon at level one will have 2 in every stat. Don't worry though, once you level everything will run smoothly.
When you engage in a NPC character or wild Pokémon in battle, be prepared to fight me. Your post will end right where you're about to engage in battle, and we will VM battle, with me telling how much damage is being dealt. For example, let's say you want to engage in a wild Patrat in battle. All stats of the opposing Pokemon will be given to you, don't worry. This would be the VM conversation:
(Note: Growlithe is at Lv. 10, and with a Mild nature and the Patrat is Lv. 7 with Bold nature. You have no idea what IVs each Pokemon has.)
"Wild Patrat would like to battle!"
"I send out Growly, my Growlithe, and start off with an ember attack!"
"It lands on the wild Patrat hard, causing 61 damage, losing all of its 17 hp. It drops to the ground! Growlithe gained experience.
"Capture Patrat?"
"Yes, I'd like to use one of my great balls."
"After a couple shakes, the Patrat eventually is sealed. Congrats! Name it as you wish."
And then just take the battle log and spruce it up! Example of the battle log we just did:
"Jane stared down the Patrat intensely. She immediately grabbed Growly's Pokéball and flung it towards the ground, sputtering the red, gleaming light as her trusted dog Pokemon barked with enthusiasm.
"Grow!" It said as it wagged its tail and gave a big grin. Jane smiled and pushed her goggles more into her face. There seemed to be a gleam radiating off of them.
The Patrat suddenly charged at not Growly, but Jane herself. Its speed was ridiculous. You could barely see its feet as it raced to do who knows what to Jane. But as quick as Patrat's feet were going, Jane spit out a call to her Growlithe.
"Growly, quick, use Ember!"
The Growlithe, without the slightest inkling of hesitation, barked and let out a small fire from its mouth to chase down the overgrown rodent. Right before it was able to claw Jane, the Patrat in question was blindsided by the intense flame, letting out a cry of pain as it smacked to the ground, unconscious.
"Wow," Jane said as she stood over the Pokemon. "He didn't last long." She couldn't help but notice its potential from its speed. "Maybe we can fix that," she said as she looked over at her Growly, who was blissfully unaware of what she was saying.
Jane picked out the shiniest great ball she could manage out of her bag and dropped it almost carelessly onto the Patrat. It sucked up the Pokemon and started its trademark shaking. Jane watched impatiently as it made its final shake and gave out a "ding!"
Jane picked it up and examined the surface of the Pokéball. "Hm. Speedy seems fitting, no?" She placed her new companion on her belt and walked with Growly into the tall grass once more."
You get the picture.
tl;dr
So basically, the leveling up and stats systems from the game are still intact, and when you're battling an NPC or wild Pokemon, you and me will battle. Wild Pokemon do not have EVs, but trainers will have some tacked on. Depending on the type of trainer, more or less EVs will be spread.
If it's against another RPer, Each person will VM me the Pokemon they're sending out first. Whoever has the higher speed, I will VM them to call an attack. Once the VM me back their attack, I will VM the opposing person with the attack and the amount of damage that it will cause if they don't dodge it. Then the person gives their response to the attack (whether they dodged it or not) and the attack they call out. And then I VM the other person with what happened, and the damage total.
NOTE THAT YOU CAN NOT DODGE TWICE IN A ROW. ONCE YOU CHOOSE TO DODGE, YOU ARE UNABLE TO DODGE AGAIN FOR TWO TURNS.
This prevents dodge godmodding. Once one side has fallen, I will PM the winner the full battle log and they make a post about it, sprucing it up. After their post is up, the loser will continue with their mission post-battle once the battle post is put up by the winning member. Like how they're feeling, how they potion'd all their Pokemon up or ran back to town, etc. etc.
NOW ONTO THE GYMS.
There are twenty gyms scattered around Sophrosune, one for each type except ????. Remember, you have no idea what this region looks like and you'll never get a map so you don't know where they are. Because the AOS has only ten gyms in its territory, you'll only need to beat ten gyms to be able to go in to the Pokemon league. They can be any combination of the twenty, since the badge reader was wired to accept all of them. When you face a gym, the gym leader will take note of your badges obtained so far and change their pokemon accordingly to provide a challenge. Beat all twenty, and you (besides be noted for showing off and being overqualified for the Pokemon League) will be provided with a little somethin' somethin'. Not telling what though, it's a suprise!
[The gym leader's sillouettes will be provided here once I'm done, and once any RPer reveals them, their full battle sprite will show. If you guys manage to find all twenty, you each will get a great thing granted to you for free! No luck points required!]
Don't think they're all gonna be right there in their gym waiting for you. They're human, and they can travel around. You might just bump into one!
AND NOW FINALLY HERE ARE THE RULES AND SU's.
Rules:
Spoiler:
1. I am the Game Master (GM). That means whatever I say goes. Distribution of Luck Points, what situations you find yourself in according to your mission, who gets the random "thing," that round, what Pokémon is on what route, everything is my decision. No exceptions. If you feel that you've been screwed on Luck Points unfairly, then PM me about your problem in a civil, calm, and nice manner, and we will have a conversation to settle the dispute. This does not mean you can weasel more Luck Points out of me each round. Do not abuse this ability because if you do, you can no longer dispute any luck distribution and deal with the cards you're dealt. Don't be greedy. Also, I treat everyone equally, so don't pull the "picking on me" card.
2. There will be no bunnying, which means taking full control of someone else's character without their permission. If you feel that your character has been bunnied, PM me with the post url. I will check it over and see if this is a true-blue offence. If it is, that bunnying user will have 1 pt against them towards being kicked.
3. There will be no godmodding, which means acting like you're the game master and creating important details in your post without my permission. If you want to add something that would completely change the course of your story, please PM about it first for good measure. Since I want you to be creative, I'm usually gonna be very laid-back with this and unless it does something that changes what I have in mind for this RP. Also, your character is not perfect. They can be the very best if the work towards it, not because you just say that your level 2 Bagon beats the champion's level 100 Charizard. Besides, I've enacted a lot of stuff to prevent this, so you're actually gonna have to try to godmod.
4. All usual RP Corner rules apply, of course.
5. No magically appearing anything. I will also be taking tally of your Pokemon, their moves, stats, your bag items, etc. If you have no Pokeballs, you cannot snatch that Abra by pulling out your surprise great ball your grandpa gave you when you were five and kept in your pocket that you've never mentioned until this point. If you are dead broke and you do find a Pokémon you'd like, well.... you could write something creative to get it.
6. Inactivity is bad for this RP. If you think you will be gone for more then a week, please PM me your situation and I'll give you a break. If you think your absence will be longer then two weeks, well, sorry, but you'll be kicked from the RP. You'll also be kicked from the RP if you are missions behind. I will advance missions once at least 3/4 of the group is done with the current one. If you miss two, you're out. Example:
Everyone is done with Chapter Two.
Everyone but Dawn is done with Chapter Three.
Everyone but Dawn and Brendan are down with Chapter Four.
Sorry Dawn, but you are kicked from the RP.
7. Be creative, be creative, be creative, be creative, be creative, be creative, be creative....
8. If you are caught breaking the rules, you will get what I like to call a "point against you." Bunnying, Godmodding, etc. will get you 1 pt against you. Three points and you're kicked from the game.

Wick Wire - James Langden as played by Arcaray!
Spoiler:
Reserved means that egg is being saved for someone, please pick another.
Accepted means that the RP'er who wanted this egg made a great SU and is now officially participating. Good job and good luck!
Pending means that a person gave their SU, but it was just a little below standard. Fix it immediately following my criticism and try again. During this state, the egg they want is up for grabs and if I accept a person who wanted the same egg and the pending person hasn't given in their revised SU, that pending person has to pick a different egg. Sorry.
Denied means there were many flaws with your SU. Follow my criticism and fix them all. The difference between pending and denied is that at least Pending will be noted, and hopefully people will respect and not choose your egg. Denied is also the case when a Pending person again gives an unsatisfactory SU.
