    BIG NEWS BIG NEWS!

Nintendo has announced a NEW FIRE EMBLEM GAME!. That's right! This is no joke! We're going to get a new Fire Emblem game! Well, new is relative, since this one will be, like it's predecessor, a remake of one of the early, Japan-only games.
And this time, you will once again travel with Marth in the remake of the 3rd Fire Emblem game, "Mystery of the Fire Emblem" (Monshou no Nazo).
The full (fanlated) title of this game is "New Mystery of the Emblem: Heroes of Light and Dark"

    Meanwhile, enjoy the trailer~ : D

    Fire Emblem Wikia said:
Fire Emblem: Shin Monshō no Nazo ~Hikari to Kage no Eiyū~ (ファイアーエムブレム新・紋章の謎~光と影の英雄, informally translated as Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem ~Heroes of Light and Dark~) is a remake of Fire Emblem: Monshō no Nazo, developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo. It is the second Fire Emblem remake for the Nintendo DS.

The game stars Marth, the hero of Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the original Monshō no Nazo as he fights in a conflict known as the "War of Heroes". He appears to be accompanied by his trusted friend, a robed figure referred to as the "Hero of Shadow", an unsung hero of the war. The text from the official site mentions that the player is a hero of shadow, perhaps indicating that the player will have an important role in the game, akin to the Tactician from Fire Emblem: Rekka no Ken.

If that'd be true.... I'd jump a hole in the air. 8D!

OH!!!!!!!!! I really disliked Shadow Dragon, it was very disappointing, however if this is made to be much better then I will be happy. Eh, have nintendo heard our call? Are they finally listening to what the players want? Tee hee. I would really like to see the player addressed again, it made the game personal and awesome.

I really doubt that they'll keep the first game in it...If anyone's thinking that. They'll just do a remake of the second part.

    Here's a thing:

More news has been released, including the official site of the game.

    Artwork
    https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ds/vi2j/charactor/index.html
Marth seems to be less shiny than in Shadow Dragon. XD

    Story (including a timeline)
    https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ds/vi2j/story/index.html

    My Unit
    https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ds/vi2j/myunit/index.html

    FireEmblem wikia said:
My Unit is a custom character created by the player who participates in the game's stories and battles, similar to the Tactician from Fire Emblem: Rekka no Ken. My Unit is a youth of Altea who volunteers to join the Altean Knights one year after the end of Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon. The prologue of Shin Monshō no Nazo covers My Unit's rise from a rookie knight to one of Marth's personal guard.
Players can change My Unit's name, gender, starting class, appearance and background. The default appearance of My Unit is the blue-haired, sword-wielding male who stands next to Marth in the game's boxart. The default female My Unit also has blue hair and wields a sword.
    https://fireemblem.wikia.com/wiki/My_Unit

This is probably the most suprising news. This time the player can actually join Marth in combat. : D And you can, apparently, change their/your appearance any way you want.
Pokémon can learn a little from this.

(just lame coffee pasta from the other thread)

That does actually sound really interesting! However, I still wont be happy until I can have a support conversation with Erk :D

    Because I'm weird like that.

But yeah, it really does sound interesting. It would be nice to have control over what the character looks like and such, but I suppose, if you die it's game over XD

Good day fellow fans. School is officially over for me and i have returned to form in that I actually come onto this site and all of sudden I hear about a new Fire Emblem game. And I am must say I am excited.

The idea of your own unit does interest me (especially since I can be a mercenary) and I always seem to connect better to characters of my own creation. However, if the game runs on the Shadow Dragon engine, I will be likely passing the game until I can grab a used copy. That engine was severely lacking in the "it" factor that the previous games had, especially the GBA titles. Also, I rather team up with Roy or Eliwood, not Marth. I don't like Marth as much. Hopefully, the supporting cast will make up for that. But I am curious as to how support conversations will work for the created character.

Do you think the created character will be able to support and possible have their own ending in which they pursue a relationship with another character?

I really hope so. I remember talking to Kotowari a while ago that i'd love to have support conversations with the characters! Like, you can ask them questions, or you have multiple choice responses... but I don't think that will happen.

I hope they implement a support system with the player. =/ It'd be that much more awesome. And, as Steph says, give some sort of multiple choice answers to give the player at least some sort of personality...
Which I think is the whole problem of the support system for the player.
Would you mind if the costumizable character looked like you wanted, but had an in-advance programmed personality?

    I would only slightly... ^^'

I'd just be amused at that fact that we can actually converse with the other characters.

Oh, btw, there are conversations between characters and the unit. 8D

    https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ds/vi2j/myunit/index.html
If you click that link ou see Kain talking to Kris/Chris (default name and default MyUnit?) and a few panels later you see Fuina(?) talking to Marth.
Apperently you'll be playing a big role in the Prologue and the side chapters

    https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ds/vi2j/battle/index.html

Battle video of MyUnit ^ 8D (on a totally unrelated note, Marth looks cute : D)
    Enjoy~

Edit: More information that I got from Wikipedia

And it seems, excuse me if I'm wrong, that the Japanese release will be on July 15th 2010. Which is quite soon. :0

AND, major change~ You now apperently have the option of playing in "Casual Mode", which doesn't kill of your characters once they're defeated... How is that done?

    Info on the Gameplay

    Wikipedia said:
Gameplay features include four difficulty levels; Normal, Hard, Maniac and Lunatic. In addition there are two modes of play; a "Casual mode" where your units will not die permanently when they fall in battle and "Classic mode" where death is permanent as is the tradition of all previous Fire Emblem games.

Like in Shadow Dragon players can connect to the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection to battle against another player on multiplayer-exclusive battle maps. Players can loan characters to use in the singleplayer mode and access an online shop to purchase rare and exclusive items using the in-game currency. New to Shin Monshō no Nazo is the option to download exclusive episodes

    More Info on the plot:

    Wikipedia said:
One year has passed since the War of Shadows (the conflict featured in Shadow Dragon) ended. The Dollhrian Empire, led by the fearsome Shadow Dragon Medeus, was toppled thanks to the combined efforts of Prince Marth of Altea and Duke Hardin of Aurelis. A youth visits Altea castle, hoping to become one of Marth's trusted knights. This youth would one day become the titular "Hero of Shadow", Marth's trusted ally who supports him from the shadows.

Another year later, Marth receives an imperial order from Hardin, now emperor of the newly established holy kingdom of Akaneia. He is to suppress a rebellion that broke out in the kingdom of Grust, which is occupied by Akaneia. Although Marth has his doubts about this order, he has no choice but to fulfil his oath to Akaneia and leaves Altea on an expedition

I was holding my breath during that My Unit video hoping they wouldn't keep on using that god awful in-battle animation style from Shadow Dragon and now I can take a breath of relief. It looks awesome. I'm honestly excited for this game. :)

Oh... and I'd like to join the club if you wouldn't mind. :D

Besides welcoming you to the club, I have to agree with you. The animation looks better now, and it seems the characters have a little more "personality" when they battle, as in, you can actually see who you're righting with. I kinda missed that in SD. :3 (As I remember anyways)

    So, welcome. :3

Been playing since the first. I want in? Cormag from the Sacred Stones was my main, leveled him max and gave him the Sacred Stones Lance weapon haha. He is definitely my favorite from the entire series. Seth comes next, then Roy, then Nasir.

I must say I am liking what I am seeing from the new game. Has potential to be pretty good from my stand point. I hope to see more footage from it.

Why, sure. Be welcome Sutanrii. :3 I gladly accept you amongst our ranks. :3

I like it as well, Raikiri. : D
Seems like a game I'll enjoy playing. :3 Does anyone know if you need the knowledge of SD to play this game?

You don't necessarily need to know what happened in SD, but it helps since the game takes place 1 year after and it's a continuation of Marth's storyline in a way (as well as the new character the player is able to make to accompany Marth).

Hope that helps! SD was not that bad actually, so if you haven't played it...it would be a good buy...it's most likely cheaper now.

I liked the last DS one, I think they'll only improve. It was the first after all.

I made a Fire Emblem Sig because of this group haha.
