    Ultimate Grass Monotype by theoblivinator

I'm playing this on an actual Blue cartridge since I dislike emulation. I just took some snapshots with my phone of important battles to share on here, and put them in the spoiler. They don't look as clean as a computer screenshot would, but I feel this is the most legit way I could do it.

Normal Monotype update - near the end, already?

    The story so far:
    The Monotype Challenge
    The Monotype Challenge

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Well i didn't think that i wouldn't encounter missingno but because I've always named myself as "Jan" as a kid in Gen 1, so i thought i wouldn't be able to encounter missingno and fulfill what i never got to experience during my childhood. Don't worry though people. I'm not abusing any cloned items since i see that there's no point anyway. My team is pretty much ahead of anything the game can throw at me, save for a horde of LVL160 Magnemites.

Also, cleared Saffron City. I was surprised that I never swept Sabrina with Amneslax because her lead Kadabra actually Crit'd my Snorlax before it could set up. Also, I find it surprising that her Kadabra has a much better offensive moveset than her supposed ace Alakazam.

Also, Viridian City gym got smashed hard with everyone. I decided to let everyone have a part in clearing away every gym tenant before Giovanni.

While I'm making my monotype narration of updates sound really easy, but i guess this is to be expected in a generation where some of the best mons are Normal types. Persian? Snorlax? Tauros? All with movepools that go well together and can use both Physical and Special moves without feeling awkard? This gen was pretty much it. Persian with Bubblebeam? Tauros with Fire Blast? Snorlax with Surf + Amnesia? Again, its not my fault i'm abusing everything in this game. Also, the AI in the gen 1 games were pretty primitive at the time so its really random and anyone can practically win gen 1 especially with a team of really overpowered mons in this gen, which is why i added the no use of healing items during trainer battles + Set mode only clauses in order to make things interesting as i heavily dislike item spam.

    Update #2: Grass - Platinum
I mentioned it in the DCC thread at the time , but while I was training a shiny Budew popped up, so naturally I used that one instead of the one I already had. I also got the Eevee in Hearthome and backtracked a bit to get it to evolve into a Leafeon.

Ruby and Sapphire have a great selection of Rock and Grass types, so I'd like to try out both of those runs. I'll be starting out with Grass though. Are you allowed to train more than 6 Pokemon if you'd like? Ruby has so many great grass types that I may find uses for temporary ones.\

    Extra Restrictions:
    Revives are banned during battles
Game is played on "Set" battle mode

There is no limit to the number of Pokemon you can train, as long as you train at least 2.

I feel like doing one of these, so let's start with an easier one.

    Forum User Name: striderviper
    Pokémon Type: Water
    Challenge Mode: Single
    Game: Silver

I picked this one because I just had the feeling to play through Gen 2 for no good reason, and the only big challenge with using only water types in G/S/C is Sprout Tower, and even then it's at the beginning so it's nothing a little some a lot of grinding can't fix.

I've made considerable progress in my Grass monotype run for Ruby, though a lot of it has been a real struggle because the game just refuses to co-operate with me in battles. Here's the journey so far.

Strider's Silver Water-Type Update 1: (New Bark Town - Violet City)
I'm setting this up kinda like a Let's Play because I already do those, albeit in a different format.
    Spoiler:

    Team:
    The Monotype Challenge

    Tidus the Totodile (Lv. 15)
    Scratch
    Leer
    Rage
    Water Gun

I know this doesn't seem like much of a team so far, but we get the Old Rod on the next route, so you can bet I'm gonna have more by the end of next update.

Anyway, that was fun. Stay tuned for more from me!

Well I haven't done anything to do with this since early 2013. I guess my previous Fire ultimate completion is invalid because of X/Y now. Well I'm not sure how I'll go about this but I'll figure things out.

    Forum User Name: Crackin355
    Pokémon Type: Bug
    Challenge Mode: Ultimate
    Game(s): LeafGreen, HeartGold, Emerald, Platinum, White + Black2, Y

because I think BW and BW2 are pretty different I think I'll just add some more work onto myself and do both. If that's not allowed then just ignore Black2 whenever I update that. I had started Bug before but when my laptop died so did all the files with it. I'll just play at my own pace, probably do a little of all of them alongside each other to make it more interesting.

Pokemon Blue Monotype challenge update! - Victory already?

Yep, I've actually finished the whole challenge after my last update, but I didn't had the time to post my update on it. Also, something went wrong with the savefile so I couldn't continue on with my journey to defeat the Gen 1 super boss [S-HIGHLIGHT](Glitch Data Professor Oak)[/S-HIGHLIGHT]

    The Elite Four:

    Spoiler:

Final Lineup before something happened to the save file:
    Infinity the Persian, lvl54
    Slash, Bubblebeam, Payday, Screech

    Splinter the Raticate, lvl52
Quick Attack, Hyper Fang, Dig, Tail Whip (pretty useful even for end game)

    Bignigga, the Snorlax, lvl52
    Strength, Surf, Amnesia, Rest

    Byrdd, the Fearow, lvl51
Drill Peck, Fly, Toxic, Hyper Beam, Agility

    NotOU the Clefable, lvl53
Thunderbolt, Ice Beam, Metronome, Mega Punch

    Majoruros, the Tauros, lvl55
Body Slam, Fire Blast, Earthquake, Rage (LOL)

That pretty much completes the whole Normal Gen 1 monotype challenge on my part. I guess i felt cheap doing this mode as it felt more of a time passing activity than a daunting thrill of excitement that what most monotype challenges are supposed to be. Normal is pretty much the best type in Gen 1 as literally any moveset is possible for them without feeling awkward or lacking in any form of Fire Power. Sure they don't have STAB on other moves but the deep movepools in a generation where there's only a limited about of good moves was their huge advantage.

    Overall thoughts for the team:
    - Gen 1 Normal type is the best type. I didn't need SMOGON to tell me that
    - Gen 1 is the only gen where Normal types in a casual playthrough outclasses and beats the living hell out of Fighting types
    - Literally everyone can run Physical and Special moves without feeling awkward as long as those other non-normal moves are used against the types those moves are weak too. Just ask Tauros using Fire Blast.
    - The run didn't feel difficult at all compared to my other runs (sigh Grass monos). It was enjoyable watching the h4x that Gen 1 really is but i felt that i had too much power for this run.
    - The hardest part of this run was legitimately defeating a lvl160 Magnemite during my time having fun with the old man glitch. I did use potions for this battle but since its a glitched pokemon and not a trainer battle, it was alright. You guys saw what i dealt with right?

Johto Crystal (Emulator Edition) Grass type monorun Super mega update!: Motivation!

I finally decided to tie all the loose ends to this monotype challenge. The requirement of 16 badges and Red felt a little daunting at first and i felt that I wouldn't have the lineup to deal with the game's end boss, but i decided to man up and play by clearing whoever Kanto gym leader felt clearing out.

    VS Surge:
    Spoiler:

    VS Sabrina:
    Spoiler:

    VS Janine:
    Spoiler:

    Other key moments:
    - Finally found the Celadon City department store and bought as many hidden power HMs as possible to see what hidden powers (pun intended) our party was capable of. Both our Jumpluff and Meganium have Hidden Power Ghost.

    11/16.

Team update will be on another post

Well I'm starting with LeafGreen I guess, like I did last time. The naming sense has changed a lot though. Made a banner thing for my signature too if you just want the quick look at what I've got. No screenshots because I don't really like how they look.

    The Monotype Challenge

    Tadokoro [BUTTERFREE] ♀ Lv15
    Brave Nature @No Item
    HP:46 | ATK:23 | DEF:22 | Sp.A:32 | Sp.D:30 | SPD:25

    >Sleep Powder
    >PoisonPowder
    >Confusion
    The Monotype Challenge

    Raku [BEEDRILL] ♂ Lv12
    Impish Nature @No Item
    HP:40 | ATK:27 | DEF:18 | Sp.A:16 | Sp.D:24 | SPD:26
    >Poison Sting
    >String Shot
    >Harden
    >Fury Attack

-: Started the game, named myself Crackin and the rival Gary.
-: Caught Lv4 Caterpie and named her Tadokoro after the character from Shokugeki no Soma. I'm holding onto Erina or Nakiri for a better pokemon. Butterfree is like cute and harmless right? Makes perfect sense.
-: Caught Lv5 Weedle and named him Raku after the character from Nisekoi. Not sure why, suddenly came to mind so I went with it.
-: Beat Gary easily after grinding to Lv10.
-: Got totalled by Brock in one hit each via Rock Tomb.
-: After spending all my money I kept throwing myself at him until Tadokoro could live through one hit and then two-shot Onix.
    -: Recieved the Boulder Badge.

    Update #3: Grass - Platinum
Just one more team member left, two gym badges and the Elite Four + Champion. This one's going quite well, not like the Fire Red one I once tried to do (which I gave up on in the end and I, sadly, will have to do again.).

    Update #2 - Kanto 2/8
Continued, had some issues with the emulator but everything should be fine now.

    The Monotype Challenge

    Tadokoro [BUTTERFREE] ♀ Lv20
    Brave Nature @No Item
    HP:58 | ATK:29 | DEF:28 | Sp.A:41 | Sp.D:39 | SPD:32

    >Confusion
    The Monotype Challenge

    Raku [BEEDRILL] ♂ Lv21
    Impish Nature @No Item
    HP:62 | ATK:44 | DEF:29 | Sp.A:25 | Sp.D:39 | SPD:44
    >Poison Sting
    >Twineedle
    >Focus Energy
    >Fury Attack
    The Monotype Challenge

    Sento [PARAS] ♀ Lv21
    Impish Nature @No Item
    HP:52 | ATK:40 | DEF:31 | Sp.A:21 | Sp.D:30 | SPD:22
    >Scratch
    >Leech Life
    >Bullet Seed
    >PoisonPowder

-: Caught Lv10 Paras and named her Sento after the character from Amagi Brilliant Park. I saw a picture of her on one of the forums I visited and thought I might as well since I don't know what else I'd name her.
    -: Completed Mt. Moon.
-: Had some issues with VBA.
-: Beat Gary, the whole team helped out.
    -: Got the S.S Ticket.
-: Fought Misty; Raku defeated both Staryu and Starmie using Twineedle. Usually I have trouble with this gym so I didn't expect him to finish her so quickly.
    -: Got the Cascade Badge.

Wow guys! In less than 6 months you have pushed this thread to 1000 posts once again! I would do something special, but I don't know what would be worth it now that we have the free play mode for people to bend the rules with.
