  • Welcome to the sea floor, friends.
This is the Water-Type club, where we can all discuss Water-Type Pokémon. It's rather simple, really. Discussion can range from why you like Water-Type Pokémon to your experiences with them and more. As long as it has to do with Water-Type Pokémon specifically, all discussion is welcomed!

    The rules
    1. The PokéCommunity forum-wide rules and the Pokémon General rules all apply.
    2. Only discuss Water-Type Pokémon. Duh.
    3. You are welcome to discuss things you dislike about Water-Type Pokémon too if you think improvements could be made in areas, but don't just come here to hate.
    4. Respect other members. Feel free to disagree and discuss matters, but don't start any fights.

    Application
Favourite Water-Type Pokémon: Note that it would be nice, but it is not necessary, for you to post the Generation 6 icon sprite of your Pokemon. If you want to save me some hassle, that is. :)
    Favourite Water-Type move:
A memorable experience involving Water-Type Pokémon:

You don't need to talk about this, this is just a topic to get conversations going when things are slow. Feel free to discuss anything relating to Water-Type Pokémon!

What is your least favourite Water-Type Pokémon?

    Favourite Water-Type Pokémon: Golduck
Favourite Water-Type move: Surf (Could go with Scald nowadays, but Surf is so classic)
A memorable experience involving Water-Type Pokémon: Too many to name! First time I ever beat the Elite Four my team only consisted of Typhlosion and Golduck and Golduck was super useful in defeating Lance (back in the day when Ice Beam wasn't a TM, but Ice Punch was.) Flash forward when I'm getting back into Pokemon and I buy Platinum (right around the time Black and White came out.) This time I beat the Elite Four with just Torterra and Golduck and man, oh man killing that Lvl. 62 Garchomp in one hit felt really good.

Another memorable moment was catching my first ever shiny (not including Gyarados in Silver) was in Black and wouldn't ya know it was Golduck.

The only bad thing I can say about water types which is really a positive thing, is I never usually choose the water starter because there are so many good water types available while playing through the game. Gyarados, Lapras, Starmie, Vaporeon, Tentacruel, Slowbro... and that's only Gen I.

Also the first Pokemon card I ever got (and I still have it) was a Lapras and the first page I ever turned to in that old Pokemon handbook was to Slowpoke so those two are still some of my favorites.

  • Yay! Welcome to the club Johnny. You have been added to the member list, right next to an icon of the man himself Golduck, who wrecked face and reincarnated shiny. Because bullet points are boring, bro.

Topic of conversation: Least favourite Water-Type? :O

  • I'm not sure how I missed this! It's nice to have another active water type club, definitely has the most variety as a type and so many awesome Pokémon. ^^

    Favourite Water-Type Pokémon:
    The Water-Type Club
    !!! My baby!
Favourite Water-Type move: Surf. A necessary HM with great base power and perfect accuracy. It's the water move I always teach team members who are special attack-based and can learn it because of its reliability. I also really like Aqua Jet for the priority.
A memorable experience involving Water-Type Pokémon: I had a lot of great experiences using Vaporeon and it's probably my most used water. I'd always evolve my Eevee into it in RBY/GSC/FRLG and have a pleasant time demolishing everything with Surf + Ice Beam and taking advantage of that sweet, sweet high base HP. <3

Yus, share the Vaporeon love. I love Vaporeon. Used to like Espeon best, and I still like him a lot, but Vaporeon is my favourite Eeveelution now. Welcome to the club, Mr Admin.

    So, least favourite Water? :D

Palpitoad! A horribly underrated Pokémon of the fifth gen, not only because its family isn't all that popular, but also because it's a middle evo. I just love its design. It's a FROG WITH HEADPHONES.
Favourite Water-Type move: Two words: Steam. Eruption.
A memorable experience involving Water-Type Pokémon:

    Story time!

One time, I was playing Emerald, and I was casually surfing around, when suddenly I found a Wailord. A Wailord. I didn't expect this, so as a result, I didn't have enough PokéBalls. Nevertheless, I went to catch it.

All my Ultra Balls have failed, but then I reached out for...a Poké Ball. A simple, normal Poké Ball.

I threw the Poké Ball, not expecting much. What I didn't expect is that I actually caught it! Definitely one of my most memorable Pokémon experiences.

Also, in Emerald, I couldn't get past Wallace. Blast you, Ludicolo. :'(

    Least favourite Water-Type?

Tough one. I don't necessarily hate any Pokémon, but I find lots of Pokémon better than others.

Tentacool, I guess. I like Tentacruel, but I can't say the same for its pre-evo.

  • For the sake of convenience, I'll just leave a list of Water-type Pokémon here:
    Spoiler:

Mind if I also make a new topic?

Who is your favorite Water-type specialist?

For me, this question is a little tough. I'd pick between Misty and Wake. The former is cute with a nice anime role, and the latter is a wrestler. A WRESTLER!

  • I always found the Elite 4 member from XY pretty cool. Maybe because I thought a Water-Type Elite 4 member was pretty cool.

I've been waiting for a thread like this :D

Favourite Water-Type Pokemon: Empoleon (especially the shiny version!)
    The Water-Type Club
Too bad there's no icon sprite for the SHINY version of Empoleon...
    Favourite Water-Type move: Hydro Pump
A memorable experience involving Water-Type Pokémon: At one point I played Pokemon Pearl and obtained a Shiny Piplup as a starter (after many many soft-resets of course)! Evolved it to Shiny Empoleon and admired its cool colour scheme

What is your least favourite Water-Type Pokémon? Luvdisc of course! I remembered at some point in Pokemon X where I received one in Wonder Trade, immediately released it...

    Favourite Water-Type Pokémon: Blastoise
    The Water-Type Club
    (Psyduck is a close second!)

Favourite Water-Type move: I am also going to go with Surf such a reliable move to call upon because of its strength and accuracy.

A memorable experience involving Water-Type Pokémon: I think it would have to be when I traded cards with my Friend at school and finally getting Blastoise, I'd been after it for so long and you couldn't wipe the smile off my face that day!!

In the games I have always picked the water type as my first pokemon and I always fished for some too. I have only just recently got back into Pokémon after about 15 years away so I'm looking forward to discovering all the new water type pokemon that have been released whilst I have been away!! I got myself some cards yesterday and have a solid start to a water based deck :)

  • Favourite Water-Type Pokémon: Poliwrath because it kicks butt.
Favourite Water-Type move: Water Shuriken because it's a cool looking move.
A memorable experience involving Water-Type Pokémon: Maybe the shiny Seaking and Krabby I found in Pokemon Gold.
What is your least favourite Water-Type Pokémon? Hmmm maybe a certian heart shaped Pokemon that we all know and hate.

  • Let's create some more topics because, really, we barely have any.

What types would you like to see more conbined to Water?

I'd like to see more Water/Bug and Water/Fire Pokémon. I'm not very satisfied with the fact that only Surskit has the former, and the latter just seems so plausible. Another Water/Grass would also seem good.

Which generation, in your opinion, has the best Water-type Pokémon?

I'll go with Generation III! I honestly like Luvdisc's design (but dislike its viability), and many other Water-type Pokémon introduced here looked awesome. Relicanth is a huge plus. Relicanth is one of my favorite Water-types.

Do you think Water-types are too abundant?

Sort of. They're literally the most abundant type, but I think there's enough of them yet. Maybe when we get a dolphin or a porpoise Pokémon, we've had enough. Some more species of fish would be interesting concepts (like lionfish).

  • What types would you like to see more conbined to Water? Water Fighting needs more love because well, I like Fighting types

Which generation, in your opinion, has the best Water-type Pokémon? Gen 3 because it has some cool Water pokemon like Wailord and Sharpedo.

Do you think Water-types are too abundant? Yes, but I can see why there is more Water types than others. There is more ocean than land so maybe there is more sea creature than others?

  • Keen to join! 8)

Favourite Water-Type Pokémon: Squirtle <3 It's my favourite Pokemon hands-down!
Favourite Water-Type move: Surf - it's fun to use outside of battle and it's strong in-battle!
A memorable experience involving Water-Type Pokémon: Too many to name! I've always been fond of Misty in the anime and all the Water-types she had. I remember trying to emulate her teams in the games which was quite fun 8)

    --

What types would you like to see more combined to Water?
Would love to see some more Water/Poison Pokemon! There are a lot of cool fish and water-dwelling animals that they could draw inspiration from. A platypus would be pretty cool 8)

Which generation, in your opinion, has the best Water-type Pokemon?
Tough question but I think Gen III wins. It's got a really diverse pool of Water-types to choose from, and quite a few cool type combinations too. A lot of them were quite powerful as well.

Do you think Water-types are too abundant?
I think there are a lot of them for sure, but I don't think they're too abundant. There aren't really many Water-types I don't like, and most of them are different enough to one another (apart from a select few) to warrant more Water-types. There's heaps of diversity because you can have fish Pokemon, mammals that are associated with water, amphibians, and so on, so there's heaps of options for Water-types.

  • All new members accepted and added to list. Sorry for inactivity, got exams at the moment.

What types would you like to see more conbined to Water?
Dragon, totally. And Fairy. Despite current rumours, I really want a Fairy-Type Popplio evolution. Would be neat.

Which generation, in your opinion, has the best Water-type Pokémon?
Generation 6 because Greninja. I also really like Clauncher.

Do you think Water-types are too abundant?
No. Why should I? The Water-Types aren't being designed in such abundance that the designs are bad, so I don't see a reason to care. It makes sense really, because if there were less, surfing and fishing would be even more boring with next to no variety. Those are too major methods of finding Pokemon and those methods almost exclusively provide Water-Type Pokemon. To keep them being interesting and fun methods of finding Pokemon, there needs to be a lot of Water-Types.

  • This club is dying, so new topic!

What is your opinion on the Water type competitively?

Water is nifty. It's got only a few weaknesses, and becomes better in the rain. One particular Pokémon that would seem perfect for these purposes is Kingdra.

  • I think it's the most versatile and powerful type in the game all around if we're judging it by the Pokemon and moves that represent it.

As far as the type itself goes, disregarding the actual Pokemon and moves that make it up, it's pretty great.

  • Once again a new topic

What are your opinions on the new Sun and Moon Water-types?

So far, we've got like two.

Popplio is adorable. I don't understand why so much hate; it's a sea lion that balances things inside bubbles. Nothing wrong with that.

Bruxish tho... Bruxish is strange. It's basically what happens when you hallucinate. Also the flower on its head...
