If only you could breed the two fore Egg Moves...

I'd have to choose Staravia (Staraptor)

My opinion varies, it mostly depends on my team's overall strengths and weaknesses really.

Stat wise though, I would pick Staravia since its evolved form Staraptor is very powerful.

fairly clear choice. for me, it's tropius.

for one, staravia is an nfe pokemon, and tropius is not, so its stats are better. and for another, tropius can have the power of using grass moves with more power and effects. staravia can not do this.

the only reason staravia would be better, is that it can evolve into staraptor which is very good indeed.

Its mostly based on what you want really, like if you want a sweeper you'd pick Staravia/Staraptor or if you want a tank you'd pick Tropius.

    Thus my opinion still varies...

I prefer Tropius over Staravia, since I'm a big fan of Grass Pokemon.

If I would pick between Staravia and Tropius, I would pick Staravia because when it evolves into Staraptor, it will be a good team maker for Wi-Fi battles and the stats are pretty good.

I always use Staraptor, so I'd say Staraptor. Unless if you don't have a grass pokemon in your team, then you should go with the flying dinosaur.

    I would choose Tropius.
It's good to try something different sometimes.
Cuz most people use the Starly evolution line in their games.

    Tropius' Stats
    (Beneficial MAX Nature):

    HP: 402 +
    ATK:
    258
    DEF: 291+
    SP.ATK: 267 +
    SP.DEF: 300 +
    SPEED: 221

    StaRAPTOR's Stats [to be fair]
    (Beneficial MAX Nature, obv.):

    HP: 374
    ATK: 372 +
    DEF: 262
    SP.ATK: 218
    SP.DEF: 218
    SPEED: 328 +

None of this is my opinion. If it were, Tropius automatically.
Anyway, as you can see, Tropius has more pluses (representing which
stat is higher). Staraptor has decent stats
excluding it's SP.'s. Likewise with Tropius (w/o speed)
Staraptor is good for striking first and hitting hard (atk)
but fails at everything else, compared to Tropius.
Tropius is for a pokemon that can hold it's ground doing
decent damage, as it's a bulky behemoth. It's impossible
to compare these two different classes of pokemon fairly,
but stat-wise, Tropius wins. Ability-wise, tropius gets an extra boost with
Solar Power in Sp.Atk, multiplied by 1.5, costing a few HP each turn
which isn't a problem since it has bulky HP to spare. With it's other ability,
Chlorophyll, it gets a speed boost, raising it to 442, which is faster
than Staraptor. Also, it has a choice of two different abilities.
Staraptor has one: Intimidate. This ability is pretty good,
but inefficient to pokemon with Clear Body, Hyper Cutter, etc.
People say tropius is awful due to it's 4x weakness.
Choose another perspective. You'll see 2 new resistances
(Water, Thunder halved). Grass types do have more weaknesses,
but types don't matter as much when the odds are stacked against Staraptor.
Staraptor is just lacking compared to Tropius.
Now, into move-pools.. Need I say more?
Staraptor has a ridiculously simple move-pool incl. Platinum Tutors.
Close Combat is a pretty handsome niche, but that's about it.
Tropius has brutal moves like LEAF STORM, SOLAR BEAM, OUTRAGE, AIR SLASH,
etc. Those were moves excluding TMs! It even has two types of healers
(Roost or Synthesis!) and can deal some hits with Earthquake!

In your opinion, Staraptor may looks nicer or is cooler or whatever,
But in actuality, Tropius obliterates Staraptor. Sorry.

To answer your question, Tropius as opposed to Staraptor, let alone Staravia.

    I'd go with Tropius.

Heh. I named my Tropius "Musa". I got the idea from Musa Sapientum ; aka. banana plant.
