Voyage Grandeur​

Once again another day in Coumarine City, Kalos. But this time, it's different. Receiving a message from the region's Professor, Sycamore, he offers you a chance to invest in your future. He will provide you with a Pokémon that will accompany you through the vast journey he promises, but in return, you must report back on local Pokémon.

A mysterious group lie in wait for the perfect moment to ambush. They have a plan, one not to create equality among all. It is a plan to annihilate a certain race; human beings. Rumors of this group have circled and weaved through each town, passing between mouth to ear and back again. Their name is none other than Grimoire.

Will you accept the offer and begin your adventure, growing as a person and developing friendships and bonds with others? Or will the odd group accomplish their task and destroy all?

Side Notes​

This is an adventure in Kalos. Therefore, any Pokémon not available directly in Kalos may not be found through normal means (e.g. capturing, trading). I plan to reveal more and more about Grimoire as the story goes on. For now, I will say that their history is rather complicated; They were born from the death of Team Flare.

Levels will be awarded on a strict basis. After one (thoroughly described) Pokémon battle, your Pokémon gains a level. It is your responsibility to keep track of this.

Starter Pokémon​

This roleplay is unique, in that some of the available starter Pokémon are pseudo-legendaries. All Pokémon will be at level 5. When you make your character sheet, you may choose one of the following Pokémon.

Dratini
Dratini is a Dragon-type Pokémon.
It evolves into Dragonair starting at level 30, which evolves into Dragonite starting at level 55.

Larvitar
Larvitar is a dual-type Rock/Ground Pokémon.
It evolves into Pupitar starting at level 30, which evolves into Tyranitar starting at level 55.

Bagon
Bagon is a Dragon-type Pokémon.
It evolves into Shelgon starting at level 30, which evolves into Salamence starting at level 50.

Beldum
Beldum is a dual-type Steel/Psychic Pokémon.
It evolves into Metang starting at level 20, which evolves into Metagross starting at level 45.

Gible
Gible is a dual-type Dragon/Ground Pokémon.
It evolves into Gabite starting at level 24, which evolves into Garchomp starting at level 48.

Deino
Deino is a dual-type Dark/Dragon Pokémon.
It evolves into Zweilous starting at level 50, which evolves into Hydreigon starting at level 64.

Goomy
Goomy is a Dragon-type Pokémon.
It evolves into Sliggoo starting at level 40, which evolves into Goodra starting at level 50 when leveled up during rain.

Swablu
Swablu is a dual-type Normal/Flying Pokémon.
It evolves into Altaria starting at level 35.

Elekid
Elekid is an Electric-type Pokémon.
It evolves into Electabuzz starting at level 30, which evolves into Electivire starting at level 50.
It's final evolution requirement has been changed to suit this roleplay.

Magby
Magby is a Fire-type Pokémon.
It evolves into Magmar starting at level 30, which evolves into Magmortar starting at level 50.

Trapinch is a Ground-type Pokémon.

APPEARANCE: Jaril is fairly tall at 168 cm and reasonably muscular. Her skin is fair and somewhat freckled on her nose, cheeks and shoulders. Her hair is of a rich chocolate color, as are her intense eyes. On her journey, she will usually wear a light blue dress and long black stockings. Her shoes are a bit more boot-like than in the picture, and her gray jacket features silver buttons and a hood. The only jewelry she normally wears is a pair of silver earrings in the shape of a sun and a moon respectively. She carries her belongings in a black leather backpack with a blue pokéball logo and a little pin with a Furret's head on it.

RELATIVES: Mother (Agda), mommy (Fidele), three older brothers (oldest to youngest: Jared, Josh and Jack) and a family Furret (Tony).

PERSONALITY: One of Jaril's most striking features is her well toned body. She is more physically fit than most other girls of her age, due to rigorous karate training (and a few other sports through the years). As a person, she is as friendly and intelligent as any person, but can be more determined to reach her goals than most. She is not easily deterred by threats or setbacks and might not know when to give up in some situations.

Jaril also has some less great sides. She can be suspicious and overly skeptical of both people and ideas. She hates to show any kind of weakness, despite deep inside wanting to be able to show a softer side of herself to people and be more feminine. And despite that, she still falls in love very easily. Just about any guy who looks cute or is nice to her can make butterflies occupy her stomach, and her secret hero is gym leader Morty of the town in Johto where she grew up.

She is also not easily scared or worried - except when it comes to her one big fear: new pokémon. If she gets to know a pokémon personally and her brain understands that there's no threat, like with Tony and some of Josh's and Jack's pokémon, the fear subsides. But with strange new pokémon with great powers, she can almost become paralyzed if she finds herself in a situation with them. Of course, this is just another challenge to conquer by going on a pokémon journey. Thus, Jaril doesn't really have a dream of beating the league or capturing every species. Rather, she tells herself that she does it to prove that she's strong. But maybe she is really mostly trying to be free and find her true self.

BIOGRAPHY: Jaril grew up as the youngest sibling in a family that was always cheerful but in a sort of rough way. The parent Jaril and her brothers call "mommy" is the biological mother of all of them, while the one they call "mother" is not. Even though most people in Ecruteak City didn't have two mothers, this was never really an issue or something they thought much about, but as much as the parents loved their sons they were really happy when they finally got another girl in the family.

As such, Jaril has always been spoiled compared to her brothers. She never liked it though, and has spent all her life trying to be both physically and mentally strong and show the world and her overprotective mothers that she is just as capable as any boy. One of the ways she did this was by trying more sports growing up than any of her brothers did. She found her match in martial arts and still trains karate at a downtown club several times a week.

In school, she refuses to be as feminine as the other girls in her class have started to become more and more as they dove into their teenage years. She still retains her friends from younger years, but mostly outside of school time as most have new groups of friends there now. Jaril sometimes hangs out with these groups of her childhood friends, but is not really considered part of them full time.

The family pet Furret, Tony, was given to Jack when he was younger. Nowadays he and Josh are much more interested in stronger and more exotic pokémon and have their own teams that they have captured or traded to get, and they train as a hobby. Before the family moved from Johto to Kalos because of Agda's work, the two middle brothers were often helping out in Morty's gym. Jared has never really bothered with pokémon training and Tony is mostly Jaril's pet and silent friend now.

An incident when Jaril was in kindergarten has made her afraid of pokémon who are strangers to her. However, only her family and childhood friends know of this fear. She usually does anything to get away from meeting new pokémon. This led to her brothers (except for Jared) teasing her up to the point that she said she would take up Sycamore's offer and show them that she could overcome her fears.

NAME: Tristan Forestier

AGE: 16

GENDER: Male

STARTER: Bagon

APPEARANCE: Standing at 5'10", Tristan's appearance is more-or-less unremarkable. He has surprisingly-fair skin, complemented by icy-blue eyes and contrasted by a somewhat thick head of jet-black hair going down past his ears. His typical dress is very casual despit his background: a dark gray t-shirt, some jeans, skate shoes, and a pair of sunglasses. He also wears a watch on his wrist (and he insists that everyone should have one for its virtues).

RELATIVES: Mother, father, older sister.

PERSONALITY: Tristan has a tendency to always notice the negatives of anything and then voice his complaints about them, sometimes to the point of being pedantic. He likes social interaction, but he often doesn't like the people he meets. His self-righteousness also rears its head occasionally.

With that said, though, if Tristan does befriend anybody, he is extremely loyal to them - even if he seems distant from the outside - and will stop at nothing to get them out of any sort of trouble.

BIOGRAPHY: Tristan was born into a rather well-to-do family in Lumiose City. With this, though, came his parents' expectations for him to act rich and generally snobbish. As a kid, he defiantly refused, and that was no big problem; his older sister, Lise, was already the perfect child that they could boast. He could stay at home while his parents were out with their esteemed friends, mentioning him no further than off-handedly, and while somebody could legitimately say that his parents were at least somewhat ashamed of him, it would come as absolutely no surprise to him. He practically raised himself, and has always been very independent as a result.

NAME: Raphael Bataille // AGE: 14 // GENDER: ♂ // STARTER: Deino​

APPEARANCE: Raph is a boy who doesn't, exactly, stand out. At 5'4" and with a thin build he's not as big as he'd like to be, puberty slowly creeping along rather than smacking him hard. Still, he does have the gawky proportions of a teenager and looks like he's about to sprout up at any moment. His skin is alabaster, yet despite his paleness he doesn't look sick. His face is somewhat round and childish, and freckles spatter along his cheeks (along with the occasional pimple). His eyes, large and almond-shaped, are such a color of grey that one could look at them and feel like they are perfectly colorless. His nose and mouth are delicate, almost cherubic, again making him seem younger and more feminine than he'd rather be. His hair is honey-colored and a little on the scruffy side, like he's been putting off a haircut for a couple of months. Despite the slightly odd proportions that comes with being an adolescent, his body seems to smoothly flow in its shape, tapering perfectly from one part to another.

As he's on a journey, Raph wears fairly sensible, simple clothes. A thick, sturdy, yet stylish white shirt adorns his body, its buttons in a constant flux of being opened or closed depending on heat and his mood. Along with this is a leather thong around his neck, tightly holding the feather of a bird Pokémon Raph cannot seem to remember. For pants, he has a pair of dark grey jeans that only come to his mid-calf. Holding them up is a weaved leather belt. Upon his feet are nondescript black running shoes, bought for their durability over their looks. Upon his head, trying to tame his hair, is a straw sunhat - usually something that would look somewhat strange, but yet manages to suit him. He carries around a leather satchel, upon the strap of which is where he keeps his Pokeballs. Within the satchel are more clothes, such as a deep green sweater, longer pants, and sturdy climbing boots. He also has a black Pokétch around his wrist.

RELATIVES: Mother, father, three older brothers.

PERSONALITY: Raph is a bit of a coward and a crybaby. That's not to say he's a bad person, though - he's just unconfident and nervous. He may have a mild case of social phobia and anxiety, but he's never been tested, and his desire to break out of his shell is what has set him along his journey. He finds it difficult to talk to other people, even if he knows them. He will try, definitely, but he'll probably stutter and get flustered and then beat himself up mentally later for his stupidity. He finds Pokémon a lot easier to handle, particularly those of milder dispositions. There's no judging, no fear, just a friendly creature to bond with. It's surprising he didn't try to go out on a journey earlier, but he just had never mustered the courage. Aside from his failings, he's a friendly, sweet, genuine and honest boy. Raph tries his best to be loyal to his friends, but due to his problems he's occasionally a bit paranoid. "Do they really like me? They're pretending. But they're so nice to me. But that's the point..." He also apologizes too much. He can honestly be a little annoying in this regard, but he's trying, he's trying so hard to be cognitively aware and to overcome all of this. And maybe, perhaps, he will. But for now, he's that timid yet sweet young man who's trying to slowly better himself.

BIOGRAPHY: Raph was born in Laverre City. His parents already had three boys, and another one just didn't excite them. Sure, he wasn't abused or anything, but Raph grew up without as much affection as a normal child would experience. As a toddler, he was surprisingly a bit of a hellraiser, always trying to get his parents' or brothers' attention - but all five of them were tired of fighting and competing. Again, he wasn't neglected, and he still hopelessly loves his family, but he just wants them to acknowledge him as something more. His two eldest brothers both went on journeys - the oldest giving up quickly, but the second oldest still out and travelling.

He spent most of his time (outside of school) wandering through the forests that surround his hometown. He never really had the urge to catch Pokemon, but he always loved interacting with them and learning about them. As such, he's actually quite skilled at calming down wild Pokemon. But as he grew up, the urge to be more than what he was kept pushing itself. He was quiet, he was a wimp, but he knew he had so much potential. As such, when he received the notice from Professor Sycamore, well... he jumped on it. His parents were concerned, but he was as steadfast as he could be. If the others could do it, he could too, and he could become a better person for it.

APPEARANCE:

At around four feet, six inches, Donna has difficulty standing out in a crowd. While she is usually annoyed by this, she appreciates her light and lithe frame when it comes to staying hidden or moving fast. Her fingers are like a pianist's; long, thin and dexterous. Golden-blonde hair flows simply from her rounded head to just below her shoulder blades, with the bangs parted to her right. Hazel eyes sparkle with a reserved energy. Her eyebrows are thin, and her eyelashes sparse. Her skin is light, but her nose, forearms and neck are lightly tanned from her time out in the sun.

Donna is often found wearing a plain red cap, a white t-shirt, and light blue knee-length shorts with simple sandals. However, when she goes traveling, she switches her sandals out for rugged yellow rain boots, along with a large (well, large for her) hiking backpack. When it rains, she has a yellow rain jacket and a yellow umbrella. Otherwise, she possesses few other clothes.​

PERSONALITY:

Often carrying a soft smile, Donna is rather reserved. Since she is often missed among the others, she has become used to doing her own thing, and has become soft-spoken and solitary as a consequence. Despite her quiet nature, a wide range of emotions can be easily read on her face; however, she rarely acts on them. If she is sufficiently enraged, she loses control, doing things often classified as 'illogical'. For fun, she often takes hikes in the nearby routes, enjoying the solitude.​

BIOGRAPHY:

In Coumarine City, Donna currently lives with her aunt Rhea and uncle Lewis. Her birth town is Couriway Town, but her mother and father are on a long business trip to Hoenn. Laura and Augustus, her mother and father, both work for Game Corner Incorporated. As such, the Aurelea family hadn't needed to worry about monetary costs, sitting firmly around middle class.

While she liked Coumarine City and loved her aunt and uncle, she wished for something more. As the weeks passed, the frequency of her hiking went up drastically. When she got the oportunity to go on a vast journy by Professor Sycamore, she graciously accepted.​

APPEARANCE: It stands on a height of 5 foot and 11 inches and with an olive tone on the skin, brown hair and brown eyes. Gelius usually wears black jeans, a black jacket (always open) and a Black hat. under the jacket he wears a black t-shirt. He also wears black gloves on the hands. He has a scar on the right hand.
He usualy wears black tennis.

RELATIVES: Older brother and Sister and Mother and Father.

PERSONALITY: Gelius is stubborn. His stubbornness is bigger than anything he has. Never likes to be ordered. Other times Gelius is brave and nice. He studied very much about pokemon battles. He is a serious guy when the situation goes to the bad side. He has the times he is funny (great or bad times to be funny).

Gelius looks like a spooky guy but he is a nice one that is always free to help. What is stronger than his kindness is his love for his pokemon. He hates to see pokemon used as slaves, tools or lab experiments. Gelius always understood pokemon feelings, thats why he and pokemon are big friends.

BIOGRAPHY: Gelius was the youngest of all the brothers. His brother was on journey and his sister was travelling with his brother. His dad worked far away on Coumarine city. He stayed at home with his mother. He lived at Vanivile Town but before he lived at Mossdeep City when he was only 2. One day when he was playing with his friends, an enraged Zangoose attacked him, cutting him on the right hand. After the incident he needed to go to the hospital in Lumoise City and was forced to live in Lumoise with his mother.

8 years after the incident, Gelius was already used to the life in Lumoise City. One day Gelius was at home taking care of Bunnelby and Fletchling (his mother pokemon). It passed 2 years since his brothers didn't had return from their adventure along with their pokemon, to visit him. Then his father arrived saying that he had a letter. It was about Professor Sycamore giving him an opportunity to go on a travel around Kalos and giving him a pokemon. Gelius was so happy that the first thing he made was running out of the door and going directly to Professor Sycamore's Lab.

As for the new level per 3 battles thing, I wanted to make it somewhat difficult considering all pseudo-legendary Pokémon have a "slow" EXP growth. Now that I consider what you're saying, I'll shorten it to 1 battle. And yes, this roleplay is based off of Pokémon X/Y. Therefore, moves they can learn while leveling up are going to be based off of the game's Pokédex, and more often Bulbapedia.

Vernita never let her tall height of 6' feet intimate anyone, especially people she was trying to be friendly with. She has a long, red hair that falls down straight no matter what and her piercing blue eyes makes her look a bit odd. Her small flat nose and her square jaw makes her look rather peaceful than talkative actually, but having a strand of hair fall on her left eye and the rest loose convinces this idea more. Her high cheekbones makes her look decent at least, but her small lips change that. She has a lean built and has small, narrow fingers, mainly built for speed.

She will usually be seen with a soft green shirt with jeans on that has rips, and she wears some jade earrings, given to her by her aunt. She has a sky blue watch, but she uses that for display rather than to tell time; after all, she had her phone on her hand at all times. She wears black sunglasses on her face but pulls it off to the top of her head to look 'cool.' She has on closed toed black shoes, but she'll change into her green sneakers if she has to hitch a hike.

Being a very irrational person, Vernita often makes choices with her instinct over her mind. She hates smart people because she saw them as too nosy, too arrogant, and too boastful. Then again, Vernita isn't the most wonderful person you can meet; after all, she is a real chatter box. She can talk for hours and hours, letting whatever thoughts she has go out in the open without fear nor hesitation. She has an opened mind and is welcome to take any suggestions, but she is mostly spontaneous. So it is hard for people to like her for her optimism or hate her for her mouth. Vernita talks so much that often people have to tell her directly that she is annoying all of them since she does not know how to take a hint.

Despite her lack of attention and listening skills, she knows how to make a person feel good about themselves and bring her smile on her face to theirs. She will always be there for you because she isn't the person to betray anyone, but her sheer honesty makes her bad at keeping secrets when being interrogated. Vernita really doesn't care if people like her or not, but she can be very sentimental and emotional, so don't try saying anything too cruel. She loves having a blast and getting good times in her head, and will sometimes be singing out of the random. Who knows why she's like this, but nothing can break down her optimism at all. Well everything except darker secrets that lie in one... But even if this happened, she would never judge a person for their actions at all. She believes that there is some good in everyone, even if a little bit it is.

As a little girl of three years old, it was hard for Vernita to understand the world she was in. One second she was at home in Oldale Town in Hoenn, and the next thing she knows, she's all the way in Coumarine City in Kalos. She doesn't remember her parents much, but she remembers that her mother gave her a sapphire pendant to her baby sister, Grace. So practically her aunt and uncle have been her parent figures instead of her own blood parents, but they never came back. By the time Grace was old enough to understand the world she was in, she would always question Vernita about her parents. Vernita herself kept her sister on track and happy, but she didn't understand why her little sister was grieving on her parents. She never gave the question much thought but it kept getting harder and harder to avoid the question.

So one night, after Vernita read her bedtime story to Grace, she questioned her sister again about her parents. Not wanting nor willing to tell the truth at the moment, she told Grace that their parents were on a trip and they were on an adventure, but they couldn't risk either of their kids and decided to leave them behind. Satisfied with this lie, Grace fell asleep while guilt ate up her sister. She frankly loved it here in Kalos; she made plenty of friends, she adores the neighboring pokemon, and she even has her eye out on a boy. So then why lie? But the next morning, everything changed. Their aunt and uncle started to distance themselves from the girls and they couldn't look at their faces. Finally, when Vernita looked at them in the eyes, she saw grief in them. But the two girls went to school and by the time it was time to go, a man was there waiting for them. He presented himself as Xavier Glade, their brother. Shocked, the girls didn't move at all until he hugged them. At first, Vernita thought this was the best news ever. Imagine, her finally having an older sibling. Sure he was fourteen while she was ten, but that didn't matter. It wasn't until she noticed how Grace was acting that she began to wonder.

Once she could talk privately with Grace, she pointed out Vernita her pendant. But when she opened it, a note fell from it and Grace handed it to her. Trust no one in Kalos. Everyone is not who they seem to be. Take care my children, Grace, Vernita, and Xavier. Grace thought this was serious, but Vernita shrugged it off. She thought her little sister was paranoid. Personally, this didn't change one bit for her. All that note confirmed was her older brother. But she heard the others discuss in the porch of their house, and finally Xavier stormed out, and when he saw Vernita, he told her to fetch Grace. Once she did, he told Grace that they were going away for a while, but Vernita must remain here. At first she thought it was that Xavier didn't like her, but over time, she realized he was protecting her.

So she was sad to see the two go, but she had friends who would help her grieve and comfort her, and she would never question anything. But once she was 14 and heard about the pokemon being given away by the professor, Vernita took the shot to explore all of Kalos and search for her family.

I agree with this. Trapinch evolves into a Dragon type as well, so I think it would fit in.

If you want another suggestion, I would say Swablu since it becomes a dragon type as well.
