Yes, we've all had that moment, where we've felt that Ash/Satoshi just truly EFFed up badly, and we had no idea how he could have done so if he was truly a great battler, as some episodes imply. The greatest exampled occurred in "The Semi-Final Frontier," where Ash/Satoshi battled Tobias/Takuto, and his team is possibly the worst he could have devised if he was going up against a trainer with the ability to tame Darkrai.
For those of you who don't remember or haven't seen it--Ahem. Allow me to educate.

Torkoal. WTF, man. I mean, Torkoal? What did Torkoal ever accomplish? It...weakened Registeel in the midst of his own pummeling? Oh, it beat Slakoth!..........Who was already weak, and then he...Got knocked out...By a single Slash...Hmm....Oh, he once lost singlehandedly to a Steelix!...Wait, what?
Pikachu--Meh, it was inevitable.
Heracross--Not a bad choice, actually. Should have had X-Scissor instead of Horn Attack, and used Focus Punch instead of Hyper Beam, though.
Swellow--Umm...I guess so? *Punch myself for use of the previous phrase* Anyway, he's okay...Not totally remarkable, but he could have fared better if it weren't for the fact he was against a Latios who probably BATHED in Soul Dew.
Gible--It doesn't always work like Krabby and Conway, Satoshi-kun. You know full well sometimes a newbie is just a newbie, and there is no avoiding it. Honestly, if the Krabby Formula™ always worked, he'd be WAY better than he is now. A lot of trainers would be, too.
Sceptile--Not a bad choice, either. He has proved himself on numerous occasions, and would have been better if Tobias' team wasn't chock-full of Ubers.
Anyway, Ash didn't have good judgement on his part for half of his team. He should have used Charizard (bet he's pretty mad he didn't see any action since his defeat by Dusclops), Primeape (Probably strong after being in training, plus he most likely has Vital Spirit), and Glalie (What? He's strong!)
Anyway, please post your "Why Ash, Why?" moments here, and see how other feel about them as well. I'm sure we all had the same reaction.
