This idea comes from a popular Stephen King book.

Say a very wealthy man proposes that you give him your firstborn child upon birth and he promises you 2 million dollars for the first year. You then receive subsequent payments of equal value on the child's 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, and 21st birthdays: a total of 12 million dollars. Additionally, you are not allowed to see the child until after the 21st birthday.

    Would you do it?

If for some strange reason that I would have a child in the first place, I absolutely would. I would do anything to get rid of a child that I've fathered, especially if it was unintentional.

But parting with your child so you can go partying :D Depending on the genetics of his or her mother, my child could use all the emotion and struggle from being away from its parents to its advantage and becomes someone really famous and successful. So it's actually win win.

What the hell, god no! The emotional strain that I would receive with the fact that I knowingly gave up my own flesh and blood for my personal gain, putting it through god knows what trials and tribulations would be too much for me to handle.

Wouldn't you be suspicious if someone was offering you money for your child? I'd automatically assume they were shady people. I don't plan on having kids but I wouldn't give my child away if I were to have one. Especially to a stranger.

Why do I get the feeling that there is a serious consequence of this, since it's a book, such as the child being trained to kill you once you meet at 21 or something?

I feel awful for saying this, but I'd have to consider. Depends on how the child would be treated, plus the mother who gave birth to it would probably have something to say on the matter.

lmao yeahh!!! i can always make more!!

and if they're giving me that much money, i feel like they'd absolutely be in a better position in their life - at least financially - to raise a child than i could.

Yep, it's all for the greater good.

I dunno, I think most of us aren't in a position to say so, not being parents and all.

That said, the guilt would probably eat away at me even if I convinced myself of it initially. So no.

I wouldn't, but depending on my financial state then I might. If I were very poor and the child would grow up in an area where they will have no future then yes because if they can give me that much money then that child will have a good life unless its for science then they can have the baby I want to see my child become Akira.

Then again, I think it's easier for someone without kids to say no because they haven't actually experienced the trials raising a child comes with.

True, but then you don't think that on an instinctual level, there would be some reluctance to give the child up?

I guess it differs from person to person, but I dunno if you could really decide to sell your first kid until you actually have it.

My opinion may not count since I've already had my first child, but absolutely the hell not, and I would feel no differently if I was currently childless. I would feel guilt for the rest of my life and no amount of money is greater than a child's love. Plus, I wouldn't know what kind of life they would have, it could be completely awful and for what, money? Screw that.

Not to mention if the kid ever found out you gave them up for money, it would probably cause them to have problems.
