I love every ethnicity and almost every culture and I also pride my self with being Russian Asian.
But what I'm most discontent with is when people categorize Filipinos as Asian or they make statements about them being Asian themselves.
There's a different perception of "Asian" and 18th century and before it was generally accepted everywhere as a term for people from Asia until elite Japanese and Koreans culturally changed the term to specifically directing to North East Asians.
Today in America it is recognized as an ethnicity, and as such I think should be specific.
The US recognized "Asian" as an ethnicity which Eastern Asians, Southeast Asians and Indian nationalities belong to.
I personally would disagree as many Eastern Asians would and only consider Eastern Asians as belonging to the "Asian" ethnicity.
There are three factors involved
By genetics I mean the gradual differences developed by Northern Asians and their appearance.
Contrary to Southern Asians[ex. Filipinos and other Pacific Islanders] Northern Asians, typical have White/Yellow skin color and typically have more exotic eyes than Southern Asians and Indians. Filipinos are too genetically mixed to be "Asian."
Indians are not even part of the Mongoloid Race, they're Caucasian but I do appreciate the fact that they're religiously close to Buddhists, so that helps.
And culturally, Filipinos are Christian and linguistically Hispanic.
So I think the media should return to the original meaning of "Asian" and only refer to North East Asians as "Asian."
