Well... There's this idea I have for a fanfic that I wanna follow through on, but I don't know what I should do or not (plus, I'm already working on another, which can be found at fanfiction.net).

It takes place in the newer Orre Region (from Gale of Darkness). The guy is Orange, his sister keeps his name, then there are two girls: Indigo, who has a crush on him, and Purple, who is supposedly Indigo's younger sister, however she works on the bad side.

Like the manga, these characters follow the adventures that take place in Gale of Darkness, and they have the three remaining colors of the rainbow XD

So, anyone think I should follow through with this idea? If so, any suggestions?

I would personally recommend not going along with those names. They just seem unoriginal. Anyone can think of a color for a name. :/

True. Wes was the original name for the main character.
    Try something original.
I mean colors aren't bad if they aren't "Orange"(no offense)
Indigo sounds pretty, but I think that is the name of something else...
Make the main character without a color name, and definitely change "Purple"(not to Violet, I took that one ;P).

Not to mention when it comes to mangaverse, characters aren't just named after colors. They're actually named after games. ^_^; You've got Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow, yeah, but you've also got Gold, Silver, Ruby, Sapphire, and the rest. So, your names don't actually fit into the pattern anyway.

(Side note in response to Blue Angel, but isn't Wes the character from Colosseum, with Michael being the main character of XD? O.o)

Other than that, personally, I'm not particularly fond of fanfics that are essentially the games, plus or minus a few characters. The reason why is because if I wanted to get the story of the games, I'd mostly just play the games anyway. I'm not sure what you were thinking about exactly (because the plot you're offering seems a bit vague), but as a word of advice, you'll probably want to deviate from the game's plot a bit more than just adding a love triangle. Otherwise, you'll probably get readers who'll just see your work as a rehashing of the game, and by default, it just won't be as interesting to them (given the number of times people have essentially rehashed either Colosseum's or XD's plot). Don't be afraid to veer off and create a whole new story set in Orre, after all. If that makes sense.

Besides, if you're doing a manga-style view of Orre, then you're probably going to have to veer off. Special doesn't really adhere all that much to the games' plotlines. While there's a new arc every time a new generation is released, characters modeled after the main characters of the games, and possibly a few events that are meant to mirror the games' events (particularly in the first arc), other than that, the manga take off on their own plotlines, separate from the games.

Eh, true. But I don't think I'd want a character named "Colosseum" now... Although "Gale" wouldn't be a half-bad name for the main character in Gale of Darkness... Perhaps I could do that...

I was just thinking of the color names since those were the only ones from the rainbow not used in the manga :/ Unless they made an Orange Islands version... (I am playing Sergio--'s hack semi-translated)

Yeah, but I guess "Gale" would be an OK name for the guy character? And maybe have his sister play a bigger role, and instead of being "Jovi" (even though you don't get to name her), she might have a different name... She would start with a Minun (probably), and Gale would still have his Eevee...

It's understandable that you would want to go after the other colors of the rainbow, but just naming characters after colors wasn't actually the convention the manga were following. They were actually simply naming the characters after the games (albeit the games were named after colors), maybe even the default alternate names for each character. (For example, the protagonist of Red is Red, so the protagonist of the first arc is likewise called Red.) To name OCs using this convention, then, you've first got to come up with another game. For a fan-created region, this might work because you could plausibly say that your region would, if made into a game, be named Pokemon Indigo. But for Orre? It really doesn't work all that well.

If it helps, you could go with the canon default names for your canon characters. That means the character modeled after the protagonist of XD would be called Michael. A manga (Special-style) version of Colosseum did just this, by naming the main character Leo (Wes' Japanese name).

Giving Jovi a bigger role might be good, although I'm not sure why you would change her name but keep her character. Basically, you're using a canon character here, so this would make about as much sense as writing in the animeverse and calling Dawn "Sophie." You can use canon characters and give them bigger roles. That's pretty much what fanfiction's all about.

As for Gale being an okay name, if a boy can canonically be called Ruby, I think you're fine.

I'm still a bit wary about plot (for the reasons I've already stated -- both that Special doesn't completely follow the games and that people might get tired of a fanfiction that does when they've already played the game), but it's up to you. You haven't really given too many details about this part, so I really don't know what you're actually planning in terms of a storyline. I'm just attempting to give you advice based on what I can see so far. *shrug*
