The Pokémon General Forum Rules
Welcome to Pokémon General, otherwise referred to as PG. This forum houses all Pokémon discussions that don't already have a forum assigned to them. Sounds great right? It is but there are some rules and enforcements that you have to follow to get the maximum out of this section.
First of all, make sure you've made yourself familiar with the PokéCommunity general rules. All the rules apply here - as they do with every forum - and some are emphasized even more for this section specifically, so make sure you take note of them. If you haven't already, make sure you hop over to the rules thread by clicking 'Rules' in the navigation bar located at the top of the forum or click this link to be taken directly to the thread.
Okay, after keeping the points made in the rules thread in mind, let's get on with the rules specific to Pokémon General.
Make sure your threads actually belong here
Your thread only belongs in Pokémon General when there is no other Pokémon related section to house it. If you still don't know where your thread goes, feel free to send me a Private Message. I'll be sure to help or direct you to someone who is capable of helping. Some common threads that end up here when they're not supposed to include:
- Any threads about the Pokémon animé, that is the television cartoons (Ash Ketchum, the movies and similar discussions), all belong in the Pokémon Animé forum.
- If you want to discuss or post a thread about the Pokémon Manga or Comics, you may do so in the Pokémon Manga and Comics sub forum.
- Any Pokémon Roleplays are not allowed here. If you are looking to make or join a roleplay then visit the Pokémon Roleplay forum.
- Discussions about the Pokémon Trading Card Game belong in the Pokémon TCG forum.
- Threads about Rom Hacking don't belong here. You'll want to visit the Rom Hacking forum for hacking related discussions.
Do not duplicate threads
If you've thought of a great idea for a thread, make sure you use the search function to see if it's been made before. If it has, check the thread to see the last post date. If the date of the last post is less than a month away from the current day, feel free to post in that thread and continue the discussion. (Example: Last Post Date: 15th November 2010, Current Date: 10th December 2010 - is perfectly fine). If the last post was more than a month away, feel free to make a thread continuing the discussions. Remember, threads aren't allowed to be posted in if the last post is more than a month away. (Example: Last Post Date: 15th November 2010, Current Date: 20th December 2010 - 20th of December is more than a month from 15th of November so in this scenario, or one similar to it, you should create a new thread).
Pokémon vs. Pokémon threads
Please try to avoid making _____ vs. ____ Pokemon threads, as well as favorite ____ pokemon threads. Instead, they will now be weekly polls, simultaneously created.Pokemon Gaming Central
With the introduction of the Pokemon Gaming Central section, Pokémon General no longer houses discussions for general Pokémon video game discussions. Any threads that are solely to do with the Pokémon video games, but not a specific game, should be created in Pokemon Gaming Central and not here.Name your threads properly
When you want to create a thread, make sure you make your title relevant to the discussion you are posing. If you have a generic title, most people will not bother reading and replying to your thread due to confusion over what the discussion is about. Also, make sure you don't have a random title that misleads members. For example, if your title says "My thread about Bulbasaur" but your thread is actually discussing Charmander, the thread will be locked due to misleading members and wasting their and my time.Regarding "help" threads
If you want to ask about a certain Pokémon related image, a pronunciation lesson, or anything that doesn't require that much discussion or debate, then don't create a thread. Instead, just use your local search engine like Google and you should find your answers easily and quickly.
Do NOT create a thread to sell or advertise
Threads created just for selling your Pokémon related merchandise are prohibited. Selling of any kind is not allowed anywhere on PokéCommunity and the same applies for Pokémon General. Anyone who does creates one of these threads will have it locked and the creator may receive an infraction, depending on the situation.Advertising is also not allowed anywhere in the community. If you've just created a Pokémon forum, don't bother creating new threads or replying to existing threads with the sole purpose of advertising it in mind. However, you may post links to forums or sites in threads only if they have content that is relevant to the current discussion or helps prove a point or fact.
No cookie cutter allowed
A "cookie cutter" thread is a thread that creates the same mess over and over again. For example, if you're going to create a thread asking people what they think about Kanto, you can't create another thread five minutes later with the same format asking them what they think of Johto. Make sure you actually put some thought into your threads before posting them. The Fine line between Pokemon General and Pokemon Gaming Central
There has been a lot of confusion between the PG board, and the PGC board, so, allow me to shed some light on the subject -- Pokemon Gaming Central is a board that discusses in-game specifics. They do not branch without the entire franchise. With pokemon general, it is a board where you can basically discuss the general pokemon franchise -- this includes anime, manga, the games, the TCG, and so on. This board does not discuss about in-game specifics.
For example, if you were to:
~ Talk about particular stats, and movesets
~ Talk about your favourite pokemon games
~ Talk about in-game mechanics
They all should go in the Pokemon Gaming Central board.
Youtube videos
Threads made just to advertise Youtube videos are prohibited. If you want to add a video to an existing post to prove or backup your point, feel free to. Otherwise, do not make a thread or a post with no text and just a Youtube video. Please do not mini-mod.
While I appreciate you wanting to help out the community, its a good idea to discreetly report threads, instead of posting in a thread where a rule-breaking occurs, which it only causes more problems. Please use the report button instead:
