[a id]basics[/a id]↑THE BASICS— Follow all PokéCommunity Rules (http://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=242861).

[a id]standard[/a id]— Unless otherwise stated, all battles will be played with the following rules:

CLAUSES- Species
Doesn't allow the use of more than one of the same species. i.e. Two Blissey are not permitted, but one Blissey and one Chansey is.

- Evasion
Prevents the use of any moves that alter the user's evasion, such as Double Team or Minimize. Keep in mind that any accuracy moves can still be used.

Prohibits the use of of any One-Hit-Knock-Out moves, like Sheer Cold and Fissure.

- Sleep
Doesn't let two or more Pokémon sleep from enemy-induced status on the same team.

- Wi-Fi (Pokémon Online only)
Allows both you and your opponent to view each others teams and change the order accordingly. Note that it's PO only, because it's forced (and not optional) on Wi-Fi.

- All items that raise evasion such as BrightPowder and Lax Incense are banned.

- Moody is banned.

- Drizzle and Swift Swim on the same team is banned.
You may use them separately however. Rain Dance and Swift Swim are still allowed.

- Shadow Tag http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/f/fd/Ani609MS.png is banned (Dream World only).

Older generation ban lists can be found here (http://www.smogon.com/dp/tiers/uber).

— Four-word and character limit rules don't apply.
However, threads still need to stay on topic; they are not places to idly chat about your six-pack. Don't hesitate to report anything that you believe is off-topic.

— All threads asking for battles will be merged with the Quick Battle Thread (http://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=246217).
However, if they specifically state it's a personal battle thread, then it's fine.

— Hacked Pokémon are banned.
Pokémon with typing, stats, ability, height/weight, and moves that can't be obtained in-game without the use of a cheating device (such as Action Replay) are banned. Hacked Pokémon with normal features (AKA legal hacks) are allowed though. If both you and the opponent agree on allowing hacked Pokémon, you may use them. Any suspicion of illegal use of hacked Pokémon should be reported.

[a id]events[/a id]↑EVENTSPerhaps the most important aspect of the forum is the events! There's many types of events, including tournaments and leagues. In fact, here are some descriptions for the most common events if you have no idea what they are:

[a id]eventdescriptions[/a id]— Tournaments (AKA tour or tourney)
A tournament is a competition involving at least 3 people or more. The most common type of tournament is a single-elimination knock-out tournament, which is divided into consecutive rounds. Each participant battles an opponent once a round, with the winner continuing onto the next round while the loser is eliminated. This continues until there is a winner. Double-elimination is also common, which allows members a single loss without being eliminated from the tournament.

— Leagues
A league is similar to a clan, meaning it's also a group of battlers. The difference is that a league functions identical to the in-game's Pokémon League. There's usually eight Gym Leaders, four Elite Four, and one Champion. Challengers must win their battles against all Gym Leaders before fighting the Elite Four. From there, they have to beat all of the Elite Four, which leaves the Champion. If the challenger defeats the Champion, he or she will replace him or her. Of course, rules vary from league to league, but these rules are the foundation for leagues.

— Personal Battle Threads
Probably not an actual "event"; regardless, these are run by one user (sometimes more) and let users challenge them, similar to a gym. Basically, it's just an average battle thread, but the thread owner can keep a record of the battles done, give out prizes for beating him or her, etc. Don't confuse this with threads that simply ask for one battle and then disregard it; that's for the Quick Battle Thread (http://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=246217).

— You are responsible for management.
Once your thread has been posted, you are in charge for ensuring that battles are finished within a reasonable deadline, and members are not spamming. If you're having trouble managing your thread, don't be afraid to ask other members for help (or we can close it). Additionally, it's recommended to lurk more before posting a thread so that you can be acquainted with T&E before jumping right to creating your own thread.

— Be active after joining an event.
If you don't think you will be able to check back occasionally and complete your battles in a timely fashion, then don't join an event. If there are legitimate complaints about your inactivity and you neglect to let whoever is running the thread know about it, you may receive a warning and subsequent infractions for repeat offenses.

— Uniqueness is encouraged!
When making an event, be sure to put some thought and effort into it. It doesn't hurt to include thorough and easy-to-understand rules; a feasible concept; and good organization, grammar, format, etc. in your thread as well. In general, it's best take into consideration this advice before making your thread:

- Use standard rules whenever possible.

- Don't ask people to post their teams before joining an event; this allows opponents to counter their team.

- Specify whether your event is for Wi-Fi or Pokémon Online.

- Search T&E to see if there are any similar events already running. You might want to distinguish yours from other events.

- Offer an incentive for winning and participation, such as traded Pokémon or a significant recognition of success within your thread.
