View Full Version : Fire Spin VS Flamethrower

November 8th, 2006, 9:01 PM
I'm just curious to know, which explains this thread.. :P

In the shows, I've seen a almost overdose of Flamethrowers whenever there's a battle involving a fire type..

what about Fire Spin? In one episode, I remembered Vulpix unleashing a really strong fire spin..

so which one do you guys think is better?

Fire spin goes for too long and is too weak..My vote goes to Flamethrower x3

In the case of the anime, for the times I've seen it used, Fire Spin always looked a lot more devastating than Flamethrower. Yet in the games, Flamethrower is a more powerful and effective move since it deals out more damage with just one hit. Fire Spin does very little damage, but over a period of up to five (?) turns.

I personally like the look of Fire Spin more than Flamethrower. But when it comes to sheer power, Flamethrower would get my vote. So I'm kinda stuck between the two. X3

I'll say Flamethrower. Fire Spin isn't that storng, I don'y think.

You should have made this a poll.

For me it has to be flamethrower as it is more effective in battling purposes as well as looking great in th t.v shows.

Fire Spin is awesome XD It's like,Whirlpool only more firey.

November 10th, 2006, 8:04 PM
Well sweeties, in the anime, Fire Spin seemed more devastating, but in the games, Flamethrower is more powerful in the games, while Fire Spin does a little damage after each turn for 5 turns. So I have to say Flamethrower, sweeties.

But hey, Fire Spin maybe be weak in the games now, but in the color generation, it was an annoying life saver! XD I took down a level 100 Poliwrath just using Fire Spin in Pokémon Yellow. XD!

IN the anime Fire Spin is used a powerful move. I think now the pokemon that is sporting Fire Spin is May's Combustkin. It being used as super powerful move. Flamethrower is just a regular fire move that is just mid level attack.

Personity I go with the games and and go with Flamethrower. It is the best fire attack to use in a battle. It is reliable as in it rarely misses and is powerful. No negative side effects like Overheat and it useage is high. Only Heat Wave can come close to its power but I perfer Flamethrower on my Charizard any other day of the week.

It was nice reading all the interesting posts..
anyways, I think that flamethower is useful only when you fight with an opponent that is either about the same level as you, or when an opponent is of a lower level..

But when you battle with a pokemon that is of a much higher level, I think the long lasting effects of Fire Spin will help a lot..

Like the most of you guys said , Fire Spin is far more stronger in the anime then when you use it in one of the games.. Unless you have a big fat high-level opponent or that you want to annoy your friend when your having a linking battle , then I'd pick Flamethrower..

Fear the force of the barbeque flame! xD

November 11th, 2006, 6:21 PM
Flamethrower, it`s more useful in the games.

November 11th, 2006, 6:31 PM
In the anime and manga Fire Spin has more of a damage impact which could be devastating. But in the games Fire Spin has of a lesser power. Which it does of a Sandstorm based damage for a few turns. If Fire Spin was the way it was in the Kanto generation games, when it prevented Pokemon from attacking it would have had ore of a edge. Epically when it was combining with Toxic to end battles. But now in the modern games, Flamethrower wins for which is better overall.

November 12th, 2006, 6:10 AM
I prefer to Flamethrower because flamethrower is more powerful than Fire spin.

November 12th, 2006, 10:16 PM
yeah, unfortunately, moves used in the anime aren't as strong as they deem to be in the game.

considering the changes to the games that D/P has made thus far, like the new physical/special system, maybe GameFreak will implement a function in the following games that would make certain forms of pokemon better at using certain moves. for instance, the power of fire spin would be increased whenever a vulpix uses it, but a ninetails would be more powerful using flamethrower. that would make the game even MORE realistic.

Flamethrower of course. Both have advantages; use Thrower for direct attacking, Spin for trapping so that Toxic, Leech Seed etc can be more effective. I remember having one trapping Houndoom with Toxic and Spin, and another all out offensive one with Thrower and Crunch.

While both moves appear equally damaging in the anime, in the games, Fire Spin isn't much good execpt to trap (especially in the 1st Generation) slower opponents temporarily (for up to 5 turns).

Flamethrower is much better. Fire Spin is bland in the game, and it makes no sense why Charizard had it as it's final move.

November 14th, 2006, 10:40 PM
My vote goes to Flamethrower. (What a drag)

November 16th, 2006, 5:11 AM
It depends on the situation. If you've got Latias or Raikou on the hand, Fire Spin is your best bet. Then again, the latter can just use Roar and you're on the road again.

In battle, Fire Spin is good if you have an opponent who has a switching fetish, but in terms of sheer power you'll want Flamethrower. Good thing it's a TM, too (as of Ruby and Sapphire).

November 16th, 2006, 8:28 AM
Fire Spin is too weak...I prefer Flamethrower :D

Fire Spin is too weak...I prefer Flamethrower :D
I agree with you.
But sometimes, well just sometimes firespin is very effective.

Flamethrower. Fire Spin is just a waste of time apart from maybe in the anime where it looks stronger.

November 16th, 2006, 10:32 PM
I think Flamethrower is better. Because Fire Spin is too weak in the games. So Flamethrower is more useful.

November 16th, 2006, 11:30 PM
My vote is on Fire Spin, it traps your opponent so they can't switch.

If you want power, go for Fire Blast.

Flamethrower is only good on Fire types because of STAB, but how many Fire types (barring starters/legendaries) are actually usable in the game?

November 17th, 2006, 1:19 AM
yeah, unfortunately, moves used in the anime aren't as strong as they deem to be in the game.

yeah.. remember the episode where Caterpie defeats TR and evolves into Metapod? Wow.. Imagine defeating an Ekans and Koffing with just *string shot* o_o such can never happen in the game~

oops, I guess I went a lil' out of topic.. :P

in the anime, fire spin is cooler, but in game flamethrower is infinitely better

Fire Spin has its uses, but Flamethrower is more reliable in teams of damage and accuracy. Flamethrower has my vote, but I believe Fire Spin still has its niche uses in battle.

November 22nd, 2006, 7:26 PM
yeah.. to use fire spin, it's really about strategic battling.. and whether one can use it to their advantage very much..

All Fire Spin really does is keep an opponent from switch out for 2-5 turns, and that's what things like Chaosbreon is for (for those noobs that dont know what Chaosbren is, its an Umbreon with Wish/Mean Look/Baton Pass/Taunt). Fire Spin is a frikin screwed over move. Its a proven fact that Flamethrower is the best.

Good day.

November 23rd, 2006, 5:59 PM
I always choose to teach Flamethrower to my Pokemon rather than Fire Spin. Fire Spin keeps your Pokemon from switching out, but Flamethrower is just stronger. I hardly ever see Fire Spin used on any final movesets.

November 23rd, 2006, 6:55 PM
just a passing thought.. wouldn't it be useful if your opponent were poisoned, and you used fire spin to stop it from switching out? o.o

Only once have a ever had Fire Spin as one of the moves for a team, and that was back in the RBY days.

November 23rd, 2006, 10:01 PM
Well Fire Spin look cool then Flamethrower, but Flamethrower is way more powerful then Fire Spin.....so if i have to choose one i choose Flamethrower....

November 24th, 2006, 8:24 AM
Flamethrower every time !

November 24th, 2006, 7:46 PM
Only once have a ever had Fire Spin as one of the moves for a team, and that was back in the RBY days.

yeah, actually, me too. I only let my Pokemon learn Fire Spin because I happened to just watched the episode where Vulpix unleased an amazing fire spin in one of the indigo episodes.. I really thought it was an awesome move back then~

November 24th, 2006, 9:08 PM
Fire Spin is more powerful in the anime, but it's way weak in the game, and flamethrower looked less powerful but still powerful in the anime, but also in the game, so I choose flamethrower. :D

November 24th, 2006, 9:19 PM
Fire Blast > Flamethrower...

Fire Spin is good for trapping in 2v2 battles where you can trap an enemy and stack Leech Seed and Toxic onto it for increased duration damage.

Also, Fire Spin (or any duration damage) + Curse (Ghost version) or Nightmare KO's the enemy in 3 turns instead of 4. That can be useful in 2v2 battles.

November 29th, 2006, 4:57 AM
Depends on what metagame too....in red/blue/yellow its fun waching a charizard beat slower pokemon b just fire spinning

November 29th, 2006, 10:35 AM
Hmmm... theres probably been more Flamthrowers then FireSpin...because Fire Spin is weaker...

I don't really care for it much myself... ^^;;

Flame Thrower is better.

November 29th, 2006, 12:05 PM
I would use Flamethrower over Firespin anyday

November 29th, 2006, 12:26 PM
When it comes to a flashy move for the cuter pogeys, fire fpin ftw. although if you're talking about the game, flamethrower would get my vote hands down.

November 30th, 2006, 9:30 AM
flamethrower all the way!
