first blog! i'm not very good at these blogging things (which is why my tumblr is just full of reblogs) so bear with me! i guess this will just be filled with whatever is on my mind at the moment (:
i read this amazing poem today, called `valentine for ernest mann.`.
You can't order a poem like you order a taco.
Walk up to the counter, say, I'll take two
and expect it to be handed back to you
on a shiny plate.
-
Still, I like your spirit.
Anyone who says, Here's my address,
write me a poem, deserves something in reply.
So I'll tell you a secret instead:
poems hide. In the bottoms of our shoes,
they are sleeping. They are shad-ows
drifting across our ceilings the moment
before we wake up. What we have to do
is live in a way that lets us find them.
-
Once I knew a man who gave his wife
two skunks for a valentine.
He could'nt understand why she was crying.
I thought they had such beautiful eyes.
And he was serious. He was a serious man
who lived in a serious way. Nothing was ugly
just because the world said so. He really
liked those skunks. So, he re-invented them
as valentines and they became beautiful.
At least, to him. And the poems that had been hiding
in the eyes of skunks for centuries
crawled out and curled up at his feet.
-
Maybe if we re-invent whatever our lives give us,
we find poems. Check your garage,
the odd sock in your drawer, the person you
almost like, but
not quite.
-
And let me know.
i personally think it's beautiful. i wasn't expecting to find it where i did, in one of our college lecture handout thingies. i'm really glad i did. it's been a while since i have read or written poetry, so it was a pleasant find.
also, tonight i'm going to a charity concert! it's for the 40 hour famine. for those of you that haven't heard, it's a really amazing organization that helps impoverished children around the world. you can sponsor a child and stuff. as i don't really have a job, i didn't sponsor xD but i'm supporting by going to their event! i'm pretty excited.
so while i'm all dressed up, i took a photo :3 mainly to thank luke for being badass and giving me a supporter account, but also to the mods who gave me pretty emblems. xD.
sorry for the messy writing and if you can't see - i took a closer one (:
happy holidays PC, i'm glad to be here, and the welcome has been very warm :3. i'm really glad i stumbled upon this slice of the internet!
