Computer buying adventures!

  • So today is the first day my roommate has had off since Monday, so we went into town and decided to finally look at laptops! I figured I'd dither for a bit, maybe comparison shop, and come home with a brand-new laptop. :') Probably should've bought it online but I figured I wanted to do it in a store so I can see with my own eyes what I was getting into before buying it. I'm indecisive as is and if I did it online I would never get around to getting one.

    Uh... it was a bit weird. XD;

    So we go into the store to the laptop section. I do spend ages and ages just staring and debating. Oddly enough most laptops were in my price range of about ~$700 or so, and pretty good specs. (Although no good screen resolutions, I am dying a little on the inside but that's my fault for wanting a laptop and not looking online. fml. Maybe next computer!)

    Eventually I do actually sit and actually consider stuff, and I find this pretty decent Toshiba laptop for about $550. The sales lady that was helping me out at the time was going on and on about how she liked it (and apparently owned it?) and how it was such a good deal compared to the other Toshibas and I was really settled on it.

    And then she goes "Oh by the way it's not actually in stock but you can order it today and it should be in by Saturday!" I died a little on the inside. I had been waiting all week for a computer and I had to wait again! :( But in the end I just wanted it so I decided to suck it up for the week.

    I had to wait a bit for one of the sales people to free up, but another guy puts in the order. I go up to the checkout to actually pay for it and one of the managers comes up and "who the hell did this order? It's not done right. *le sigh*" So I had to go back and wait a little bit for another lady to fix it. But it was paid for, and I was happy!

    We decide to stop by Gamestop next, because I had a bit of spare money from my tax return and I wanted a used DS Lite to tide me over until I really want a 3DS. While I was dithering around there, I get a call from an unknown number. It turns out to be the debit card company! My purchase went through but because it was a damn good amount of money, they decided to freeze my account just in case it was fraud. I call them back and as it turns out, the address on my account was the one I first had in this town, and I have forgotten the number of the apartment complex! I was like "I know it's on X street in X town, Kansas, XXXXX ;____;". Thankfully the guy was like "okay I'll unfreeze the account but get your address changed tomorrow."
    I'm still boggled because the account on my bank account has been changed since January of last year. My bank statements come to my house, my checks have my address on them, and I was even asked by a lady a few months back why the address on my paycheck didn't match the one on file (it took damned forever for the company to finally change it to my current one -- just in time for my W2). So the bank has it, just don't know why the debit card company doesn't. @__@

    I decided to wait on a DS until next paycheck, because I wasn't gonna press my luck with the debit card company again. God knows how they would've taken a $100+ purchase after my computer one today. XD I am glad that they called about it, though. It's nice to know that if something like that happens and I don't make the purchase that they'll freeze my account.

    CANNOT WAIT UNTIL FRIDAY OR SO TO GET MY NEW COMPUTER ;____; ffff I hate waiting for cool stuff! So much!

    Oh. And the lady who helped me out today apparently sees me walking around all the time. Considering the store is only a block or two away from the mall I work in it's not a surprise, but still I'm a little creeped out. ;___; ffff everyone knows me whyyyyyyy I need to start walking 3542653 miles away from the mall

    Glad you are getting a new computer. I probably need one one of these days. I been having the same one for about 7 years. Went through 3 monitors and a memory upgrade of 1GB. It is still kicking, but it has been running slow. I can't get Windows 7 because my computer is too old. Got to stick with XP.
