The little things you take for granted once you move out...

  • So, last night, the light bulbs in my room burnt out. Had no light bulbs at home. So, I told myself, "On the way home, I'll stop at the local grocery store to pick some up!"

    Cue me standing in the grocery store, in the aisle with the light bulbs, realizing that they come in different wattages, and I have no clue what actually works in ceiling lamps. I totally didn't think about looking at the burnt-out bulbs beforehand.

    I was so embarrassed when I asked the lady checking me out, "so I have never replaced light bulbs before, what wattage should I use for ceiling lights??" Thankfully I'd guessed right at 60W.

    I've been living on my own for seven months now, and it still astounds me, what little things I can take for granted. Like never having to replace light bulbs. My parents always bought the bulbs and replaced them themselves. Funny, huh. And even when I got home I couldn't actually replace them, as I'm too short to reach the bulbs... thankfully my (taller) roommate was in.

    Granted, not paying bills will always be the #1 thing I miss about living at home. Our electric bill was $90 this month. Hate summer, so so much. >>;;

    Have I scared all the little kids on PC yet? XD

  • I respectfully disagree. I had changed lightbulbs plenty of times when I lived with my parents. It's the not having to pay rent that I miss the most. >_>

    Can't wait until my 'situation' blows over so that I can mooch of my parents again...makes paying for college a lot easier imo. XD

  • The only time I've ever had to change a lightbulb is at my parents' house. XD; And that didn't even work because the bulb came out of its base when I tried to unscrew it so... basically this base has been sitting in one of the spots for a lightbulb in my ceiling fan for about 2 years because I failed at it. :'(

    I learnt all I needed to know about lightbulbs by looking at the extensive collection my parents have of them in the linen closet and guessing which ones might work when it's 4am in the summer and I was the only one awake and needing a light replacement. XD; So I'm set for... whenever a light goes out when I'm at school, orz.

    Well, when I was living with mine, that was never my responsibility.

    In retrospect, it was probably because I'm so short.

    You see, I'd live with mine, but they live out in the middle of nowhere and I have no car. Can't have a job that way. Plus when I left there were 10 people in a 3 bedroom house and it left a very bad taste in my mouth. Their house will just give me bad memories. :/

    I heard a potato works well for getting those bases out. *shrugs*

    You see, my parents never taught me anything about lightbulbs. Ever. :( Yesterday I wish they had.
