What are the difference(s) between ROM Hacking and Game Development?

ROM hacking is, as the name implies, the process of altering a game ROM by changing map data and other things, in order to add your own story and locations and gameplay. These hacks can then be played by an emulator. On PokéCommunity, the most popular ROMs to hack are those of the GB, GBA and DS Pokémon games.

Game Development is for every possible game-making process other than ROM hacking. This can include using pre-made game engines such as RPG Maker XP or Unity, programming a game from scratch, or even designing board games and the like. No game in this section is a ROM hack, and they should not be referred to as such - they are games.

Neither section is limited to Pokémon and Pokémon-related games. There are many advantages and disadvantages to doing one or the other, and it's up to you to decide which is best for you.

What kind of questions are or are not allowed in Community Feedback and Support?

The Community Feedback and Support forum is the central hub for anything that has to do specifically with The PokéCommunity Forums. If you have questions, comments, or concerns about forum usage or etiquette, all of them may be addressed politely in this place. Threads that appear in the Community Feedback and Support forum include, but are not limited too: how to post a thread. Questions about obtaining supportership. Suggestions about how to improve the forum. And anything posted in preexisting threads such as the Quick Questions & Answers / "Where do I post this?" thread, the Signature Rules & Check Thread and any official feedback requests from the administration.

In contrast, there are subjects that do not, under any circumstance, belong in the Community Feedback and Support forum. This means that threads about whether or not your thread in another section has been approved are not allowed and should be directed to the moderator of the designated sections. Threads requesting Pokémon trades, threads concerning ROM hacking/game development, or any threads questioning why you received a warning/infraction (which should always be discussed with the staff member who issued the infraction) are strictly prohibited.

The PokéCommunity is always willing to listen to your concerns and we encourage you to express them. If you have any questions about whether or not your thread belongs in the CF&S forums, contact any of the staff members, which you can find by following the View Forum Leaders link at the bottom of the forum, and direct your concerns via PM. Be mindful that your thread truly belongs in CF&S and consider the contents of your thread before posting. Again, the Community Feedback and Support section is a place where the central purpose is to assist members in navigating the forums and is a safe place to discuss anything belonging to them.

I have a card that seems rare but I'm not sure; where can I check its value?

If you’ve landed yourself a Pokémon TCG card that you’re unsure of its worth, you can use the How Much is My Card Worth? thread. Remember that selling cards on PokéCommunity is prohibited, but you are encouraged to check any card’s worth at any time.

Why are we limited from discussing Pokémon in Video Games section?

We've got plenty of sections to chat about the Pokémon series, with Metal Generation, Advancedtrong>, and Spinoffa> being just a few examples. Others, such as Call of Duty, Legend of Zelda, Super Mario, and Jak & Daxter don't fit in any of those places, unfortunately, and therefore, they have their own home in Video Games. Pokémon is mostly prohibited from here because we don't want it to overshadow discussions related to them. However, you're freely allowed to talk about it in its sub-forum, Let's Reviews, since there's no place to share these kind of thing regarding the series.
