I'd already read in books that the Sun is a medium to small-sized star, but didn't expect others to be that big compared to it.
And just think, all of this was once condensed smaller than the size of the tip of your pen. Let's just hope that the oscillating universe theory isn't true and it's not all going to come crashing back on us.
Still, this image does kind of put us in our place. We're no more than a spec in the universe. If the earth ceased to exit, the rest of that great void would be virtually unaffected. Kind of sad in a way...
Only it's not that either. The smallest we know of is OGLE-TR-122b.
I think Color meant to say the smallest star in our galaxy.
And then think of the Milky Way Galaxy, and then there are galaxies that are millions of times bigger, and then think about the entire universe--without having your mind explode.
More people need to understand the scale of the universe. It's extremely humbling.
