The story behind the sprite:
Have you ever wondered why item- and trade-induced evolutions can't be cancelled? It wasn't always this way. Gradually, however, there began to be reports of Pokemon that were horribly mutated, having some parts from one evolution, and some from another. Scientists began to look into this, and found that, oddly enough, all reports of these Pokemon were either ones that evolved via an evolutionary stone, or ones that evolved through being traded. They were able to find some of the trainers who claimed that their Pokemon had mutated, and talked to them about the matter. Indeed, their Pokemon were deformed, and of course the scientists wanted every detail. It turns out that all of the Trainers had, at some point during the evolution, changed their minds and cancelled it via their PokeDex's built-in evolutionary interferance signal. Apparently, there was too much energy from these evolutions for the PokeDex to completely reverse, and so the evolution was simply stopped part way through. Soon afterwards, a ban on stone- and trade-induced evolution cancelling was put into effect, and new models of the PokeDex were circulated with technology to recognise and therefore prevent the cancelling of such evolutions.
