In Red I always started with bulbasaur. When I got my pokeballs I caught a pidgey and as soon as i could also a geodude then i changed nothing at my team until i finished the game. In other games I get my full team before the 5th gym.

I think Platinum is the hardest to nuzlocke, I did it twice with Platinum, very challeging and fun. HG/SS are in my opinion not that fun, but that's me. I never did a gen 2 or gen 5 nuzlocke so I don't know about these games.
