    I like the idea. How about the accomplice be the rival; the accomplice would choose the type dominant to the player's starter, and eventually attack the player out of some sort of frustration or challenge them to a battle to test their skills.

    Totodile I've always seen water types as an all-around basic get-you-through-the-game. It's true, cyndiquil may have more options, but training for player vs player fights requires the game to be mastered first.
