The first time I ever emotionally got involved into a character was Ness from Earthbound (Mother 2) back when I was a lil' lad. The craziness and psychedelics of the game added to the believability of a kid-hero.

The Pokémon from Gold and Silver didn't really appeal to me as much as the other games and I lost interest immediately. I'm glad I didn't make it all the way through those so now this can be a whole new adventure to me.
