I actually like the starter pokemon and it just feels strange playing through the game without one. I always feel the need to have it being the highest leveled pokemon in my team for the storyline too.
I have played through GSC without a starter a few times though.
I hate the move cut, there's just something about it I don't like. Perhaps because it's totally useless in battle and feels like a complete waste of a slot. I don't even like putting it on a HM slave.
Maybe it's because it's called 'cut', so unexciting. If only slash could be used to get rid...
Burgh, my team's always pretty crappy at this point and his Leavanny always seems to be a huge problem, regardless of my starter. Lenora and Elesa are also a pain. Funny how I struggle with the first gym leaders and not the later ones.
Cofagrigus always did remind me of something that belongs in Ben 10. I'm going to have to agree with OP in that no, they don't look like regular pokemon.
I evolved and used my Panpour in my previous run-through, was actually beastin'. Besides, it was much more appealing than half the other water pokemon in the game.
On GSC I either just start over or do some breeding for certain egg moves. I've never actually thought about completing the pokedex, pretty pointless and boring if you ask me.
