why are all the starters a girl with a naive nature??

so when i go up the really long stairs and go to the exit im supposed to be in vermillion city. but its just a black screen. can someone tell me why and what to do to fix it? or if youve had this problem. also, whats the difference between shiny gold and shiny gold x?
