I just want to be sure on one thing though. So if I go to the voicegroup of say... littleroot's voicegroup, every three rows there's a set of data but in the second of each there is a pointer to an insturment, and if I follow that pointer it takes me to another set of pointers that leads to the .wav file. So, I follow that pointer and it would be the .wav file, and if I want to CHANGE that insturment then I import another .wav file. However if I don't want to add a new instrument I just want to edit the voicegroup, I go back to the voicegroup and find the pointer to.. say... electric bass (finger) which would be 0x21 and I would change it to something else like 0x27, correct?

Ok, I opened up the voicegroup for the instruments used in the introduction to Pokemon ruby. After a bunch of trial and error, I now have the exact voicegroup copied somewhere else (0x800000) and I can edit it and test it. I tested the voicgroup at 0x800000 in one of my inserted songs and it worked. Now, I'm trying to edit the pointers to the insturments to change the instruments. However, it proved a lot harder than I thought. Finding exactly which pointer is which instrument and stuff is extremely confusing. Now my question is is there a way to find out which pointer is which instrument? Because if I knew that I might be able to create a voicegroup that has all the instruments in Pokemon Ruby, making music inserting so much easier.

Hey thanks for helping with your music inseting thing. Just so you know though I found an easier way. I just imported the song as a .s using sappy 2006 but before importing it I edited the instruments used in it to match to voicegroup I was using so that it still sounds good. I'm currently examining voicegroups and trying to find out how to edit them. I can't figure it out.. All I'm seeing is a bunch of pointers and after each pointer there is about 8 bytes of random numbers. I'm GUESSING the pointers are the instruments but I'm not sure. Anyways, if I figure anything out I will probably write a tutorial on how to create custom voicegroups. Thanks for your help once again.

Oh lol and I'm a sophmore too xD. Yea update on the voicegroup thing.. I just can't figure it out! I noticed in your hack you edited the voicegroups.. You think you can tell me how you did that? If I can learn that I could insert any midi perfectly.

Yeah, there aren't as many Pokémon forums around now and the ones that are around are well-established so it can be hard to jump right in sometimes but... I've always loved the atmosphere here so hopefully you'll stick around. \o/

I don't know where too many people are. Cas and I keep in touch over Livejournal every so often and... Allstories was a member way back then and he lurks here too. I'm not sure about any others though. :( But yeah, it was ages ago. I think I was just about to start high school back then and now... I'm in second year of university. XD; It's kind of crazy to think about.

I haven't done much in the way of art in a while--nothing worth linking to, anyway--but I'd love to see your stuff. And Rom Hacking always sounds so interesting. I'm not into it myself but I'm always in awe at what some people can do with it. *_*
