I think it should either have been Rhydon (which they were going to do in 1993) or Clefairy. I like Clefairy and it has generally broad appeal. On the other hand I'm kinda glad it was Pikachu so that neither of them got oversaturated.
The only Pokémon games I currently own are Red, Gold, and Silver. Two copies of Red, one of Gold (JP), and four of Silver (two US, two JP). Mainly for shells and MBCs to make flash carts from, though.
I'm comfortable around C and assembly isn't too bad. And I'm already involved in a different project for old hardware. There's a C compiler for the Game Boy already, so that's one part of the equation solved. It's probably far easier than hacking Shiren, since while Shiren is a base it's also a...
Mystery Dungeon had a game on the Game Boy and one on the GBC (Shiren GB and GB2) with (from what I can tell, I don't speak Japanese) almost identical gameplay to Red and Blue Rescue Team, so it's entirely possible to do. Would anybody here play it?
Cool hack. Do the front sprites use the Blue versions when they match better, or fully embrace the Spaceworld graphics?
For anyone stumbling on this thread who doesn't know what I'm talking about, here's what I mean with two particularly visible examples where it's not just a matching pose, but...
Tower of Terror. Ash gets crushed then fried and yet at the end of the episode he gets his ghost shoved back into his body and pretends nothing happened. Pikachu's Goodbye was also memorable. I had The Sisters of Cerulean City on VHS as a kid. It was the only one that I had so I watched those...
Obviously, except for like Joltik and Dratini, none of them are going into your pocket... if pockets are even a thing. It always bothered me that the PMD series called them "Pokémon" anyway, even though I realize that's just because nobody but like four people would have any idea what was going...
Red, Blue, and Crystal off eBay, and Blue's going to a real life friend that likes the nineties a little too much so we can trade and battle if he ever feels like it.
Depends on which I like more. I'm at a toss up between Kris and Ethan, I like Leaf more than Gen 3's Red design (she still doesn't compare to Gen 1 Red), and I prefer Brendan to May, and Dawn to the other guy whose name I forgot, and after looking it up, it turns out it's Lucas.
