Probably you patched the game with another patched ROM (which I did and got the same results). Search for 1635 - Pokemon Fire Red (U)(Squirrels) ROM on Google and patch the game on this ROM, it'll work. And remember to play on VBA, it seems to not work on other emulators for some unknown reason...

There are a couple Megas that haven't a sprite yet into the game, Mega Altaria being one of them. Beta 3 maybe?

Already figured out about the "no prize money" thing. As the battle marsh is replacing Battle Frontier, and (correct me if I'm wrong) you can't interrupt your challenge in 3rd gen, after you retire your marsh challenge the game thinks you still are in there, and since there's no money after...
