I only got it on Christmas so I haven't progressed that much (only just defeated 5th gym) but so far it hasn't really been challenging. The only difficulties I've had so far was the 3rd and 5th gym where my team didn't have any type advantages. Other than that though it's been quite easy.

Yeah same here except I had the money at the American release but I spent it when it came out here in Europe!

Also can you soft reset for shiny latios/latias?

Maybe game freak did it to force you to use the master ball or risk going through the cutscenes again? It's all a conspiracy!
