How the hell do you get to the top of the Olivine Lighthouse then? I can only get to the four floor and there's no hole to fall through or further stairs or ladder to take.

This is a dumb nitpick but I feel like you're punished a lot more for picking the "bad" option than you are the good. Maybe it's just expecting more equality between the two but I always find it a bit irking when you have the choice of doing either or but the game makes it difficult to do one or...

When I first played Gold I walked in blind and it made everything just so much better. Same for my very first time actually sitting down and playing Red. God the nostalgia is coming back to me...
Ruby I played fairly blind too though I had the strategy guide that helped a bit.
This game is in no way abandoned and your assumption is so far off base it's not even funny.
The dev posts updates semi-weekly on the Discord detailing what he's done for that week. The idea is that the game is on its last stretch and should be releasing any day now.
