I'm an old but new trainer. I played Blue when I was a kid, and played a little bit of Gold, but didn't play at all in 3rd or 4th gen. (I was in high school/college and too cool for Pokemon). Now I'm married and training pokemon again. My wife got me playing again, and I started playing seriously again in Gen V.
