I'd define hacker the mostly the same way as scv does. i that does not to devalue all the graphic design, working with script editors mapping etc pp - actually using the tools and information the hackers figured out to make something wothwile is also a complicated task perhaps even more so...
okay so yes i decided to finally relase an official version of thenewpoketext
https://pokeguide.filb.de/dl/thenewpoketext.zip
if you already know the experimental version not much has changed since then
a source relase will also happen but now the bad news i am not going to make a gui version.
as a start normal lists would be fine as a start i assume (although you want to be able to change that sometime in the future & collecting data like that is not my cup of tea, i blame my short attention span ;))
Textfile<->Script would also help a LOT since script references help.
For narc...
first someone has tio figure out how
map<->event<->script<->textfile
are linked
once that is known the script files should not really be a big deal (besides the fact that there are a lot of commands)
you can't really say romhacking evolved. Thats simply not the case the people you know lerned more but there were always great hacks. There was the amazing Secret of Mana 2 Translation for example don't tell me that's "just" a translation there is more hacking than in most of your projects. All...

for example all i can tell you about scripting so far is the part that game released and some stuff i found based on that info. The fact that all commands...
i am a little surprised here... the fact that they joined some organisation does not change the law. at all but also the use of ips patches is also not perfect from a legality standpoint. some things you might be want to consider
-translations are ALWAYS illegal, but normally noone cares...
Heatran i don't think that's the case. Honestly i always disliked the fact that I had to run no$gba in wine when i used linux (well and the fact that i don't know of any nice gui hexeditor in linux)
yes there is a section with the names of the used textures and materials (these grass0 strings and so on). The real question remains how does the game find the correct file in fielddata/areadata/area_map_tex/ ?
huh? nsbmd *does* work if you copy-pasta the right parts. (read: the part thats the actual bmd0). You cannot really recognize a lot it's no textures and buildings after all. but that's a different problem and actually THAT is one of the problems that needs to be solved like all these things:
-...
it's actually quite an interesting topic to discuss in romhacking - and more people should ask themselves this question. But i think the starters approach is to simplified.
The fundamental question is what you are interested in. Do you want to make a pokemon game OR are you interested in the...
