Does anybody else think Cheren and Makomo look like they can be related?

The blonde girl is named Beru. I also believe he is not a good guy. The translation under one of his pictures allegedly say's "Pokemon are 'FRIENDS!'" So maybe he is like Silver who treats his pokemon poorly.

This is Makomo who is the professor's friend, she plays some sort of role in the games story. The pokemon is Musharna which is the evolved form of munna.

The first time I played silver I had received a shiny totodile and since it didn't look similar to what the box showed I reset the game, but this was prior to me knowing about shiny pokemon.

I thought the same thing but instead of becoming good like some suggested he could take over the evil group in the third version of the game. Or he could dissapear and in future generations he could make his return.

I will use the guy for the first time I play and when I get bored and restart I will use the girl the second time.

It would be better if hm's were erasable without the need of the move deleter. That way you could use them as a temporary move then erase them with a move suited better for your pokemon.
